  1. I dont know who you are describing, but it sounds like the Visual Caption Head. Been doing that for years... Everyone else is gone and off the field, and he needs to make sure he is SEEN. Fragile. Juvenile. Disappointed he was hired back as by deduction it seems like he was the source of Darcie's Staff issues last year.
  2. What's the deal with the caption judges withholding the upper echelon on BOX 5? Like if they've been capped at 19.4 of something... I remember Several corps already getting 19.9 and 20s In prelims. That BAC Guard run was perfect.
  3. What a night. Boston was on fire. Some inconsistencies in the music and visual captions tonight based on the trends from the last couple of weeks. Hopefully a different panel tomorrow will bring those back to the mean. Amazing run by the Cadets, my wife was in tears, They are Back! Flo sure f-ed up Bluecoats run, surely some sort of interference on the speaker mics, Bluecoats have bought 4 keytars it seems.
  4. 4 years drum corps 3 years HS BOA level 3 years WGI Percussion Bass drum 20 years visual caption head 10 years WGI (SW guard) instructor 8 years Drill Designer
  5. Quite true, the baton twirler soloist has not had a worst show in her life and tonight was a fluke for sure. Here to hoping BAC guard can pull off 3 spectacular performances in the dome with no humidity and dry hands.
  6. Oh are they doing averages from the 3 major regionals??? I thought it might have been scores from Allentown to decide the order...
  7. Boston draws a lot of their component GE from their guard. And namely their tosses. If they don't catch their tosses the Effect goes out the window. A guard judge might say a dropped toss is not as big but for the GE guys a whole section of a show losses points because of drops.
  8. ####, contest dynamics now mean that crown will probably win Saturday nights show with a higher score than Boston and Boston will perform 3rd in quarterfinals... No worries though, this corps knows how to climb the standings finals week.
  9. Welp Boston will live and die by their strongest section. The guard picked a bad time to have their worst run of the year. Regroup and refocus for the dome and fight till the end. The guard will have to be flawless on finals night to win. That much is clear.
  10. I hope I'm not reading too much into this, but when BD has an undefeated season and a championship they get purple rings. Instead of blue rings.....
  11. As I shared earlier in this Thread, the 2000 Crusaders felt this love and support from the activity as well. We got a Standing O while waiting for the Live Show Production before the top 5. We felt like Legends then, I'm sure these Giants are walking above the clouds everyday.
  12. I appreciate the Corps doing what is best for the Kids and their well-being and Health. But, Corps these days have to realize that there is a MASSIVE Demand for "CONTENT" from them. Outside of just performing. The professional Level Camera and Recording equipment could be getting put to use and Monetizing this demand for Pre-season and In-Season Content. The First corps to figure out Twitch will make so much money from running a Daily stream during ensemble, Lot Warm-ups, BTS, Staff, Member Post-show Reactions. The Content is limitless.
  13. In 2000 After the Mid-season regional we started working on the BABY-THROWING Ending. (The Carmen Except addition) and I think its what put us over the top and got us into the top 5 that year. I hope this staff have been holding their cards and something truly special to add some magic to towards the end of this show. Based on some of the judges scores they are clearly telling the staff that they need to add some Content/ REP to the show as they are maxing out the Performance sub-captions.
  14. Yep 15 year old me on Contra as a rookie. Some of the best memories of my life.
  15. I love this, in 2000 when Boston climbed the ranks and made on their way to top 5 we ran into BDs hornline several times while on our way to perform. Happened all 3 nights I believe. And BDs hornline always shouted and hollered for us as we walked to the gates. While that same year we fought with the cadets and cavies as they "bullied" the newbies on the block. I will always remember the way that BD welcomed others to the party and where not "threatened" the same rings true here today, as Boston reaches new heights in the modern era of Drum Corps. A representative of BD is here to welcome us again. THANK YOU CHIEF!
  16. The issue I have with FLo is that they made this statement about their commitment to improving their product https://www.flomarching.com/articles/7781608-production-enhancements-coming-for-the-2022-dci-season AUDIO And So many times, The Audio coming out on FLO is nothing compared to being at the Show Live. And it all because of the simple reason that the sound reaching the fans and the Judges in the stands is what the Corps Design their soundscapes around. For Example Boston has 6 Speakers across the FS. Flo only has 2 Speaker Mics. So Many times They are pumping Trombone sounds through speakers other than the main two speakers closest to the 50. The Baritone Soloist was many times not being pipped through the 2 center speakers and that led to Level issues. I recently watched YT Vid of someone in the Stands Recording on an Iphone and The Audio Quality on that Iphone was lightyears better than 4 $600 Mics right up on the field. I truly do not understand the logic behind not just Simply setting up two or Three Boom mics by the Press Box for every show and dont run any other audio source but that. Hearing the Audience is part of the show. $600 Mics should be able to pic up anything that an Iphone Mic can pick up. And Truly if the Sound is not reaching the press Box, It is really meant to be heard at all? MULTICAM Flo made mention that they would get storyboard from the corps to help with the "direction" of the Multicam and outside of the Detriot Show directed by Tom Blair, there is little evidence that the Director of the remaining shows knows anything about the marching arts.
  17. In other news, Boston are officially in the top tier for the first the in their competitive career. They have been clean from the get go. Adding to their execution and performance qualities the whole year. I suspect they have some additions up their sleeve. They are in position to fight for the medals and that is a huge step forward for the corps.
  18. The numbers change all the way until the last corps performs. Scores are not finalized until the judges see all the corps. The new electronic scoring system allows them to finalize numbers for all corps at the same time
  19. Some visual judges are really getting distracted by fabric. Boston have the cleanest feet this side of the Mississippi. I also can't concede that Crown brass is .5 better Boston atm. The same way that I can't concede the Boston's guard is only .2 better than Crown's guard based on tonight's run... Some competitive biases still exist. Tuesday will be an interesting day depending on the panel.
  20. As a designer, my design belongs to me. That is not "x" corps style, that is my style. I am free to take that style with me wherever I go. To say that any of these shows are Crown's style is not correct. It's Keith Potter's, Michael Townsend's and May's style. To say that you recognize a Michael Gaines production is not a slight. Or a negative. You shouldn't hold the fact that you recognize similar elements in Keith Potter's programing against BAC. The same way that I wouldn't hold Jeff Sacktigs drill against Crown. These are the best designer's in our activity, their name resonate louder than the corps.
  21. I was on the fence about this too. But my thinking is that the acid trip won't wear off for some until August and they might hang onto some "trippers" until finals week.
  22. In the racing scene they commonly say there's no replacement for displacement. In the marching world my old friend Jeff Bridges used to always preach about CLARITY. Watching Boston Earlier this season there is no denying they have come out the gate the cleanest visually. The judges that popped them this number tonight will be there finals week. They know the message they sent tonight. It was heard loud and clear.
