Yup, they have some great stuff. I'm using their song "Heart of Courage" in my marching band show next year. Found it on an episode of Top Gear and immediately went and downloaded the album.

And I can refer to one of my students as "Hey, trumpet player!" Doesn't mean that not calling them by their actual name (intentionally in your case) isn't disrespectful.

The Troopers: Whiskey. Cheap Whiskey. What else do you think the original 11th Ohio Cavalry had?! -
Really? I sure don't!

Thinking About Auditioning
BroncoTrooper replied to thathaltomtrumpet's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Absolutely. Get there and get some suggestions on how to get better. Work out. Practice. Come back to the next camp and show the staff how much you've improved. Get contract. March. Repeat until aged out. EDIT: Don't worry about your range so much, especially if you do have a C above the staff. Ain't nothin' wrong with playing 2nd or 3rd part . . . -
I have no idea who would red minus you for that, but apparently they have some issues. Not sure what's wrong with wishing a group success. *waits for the red minuses*

DCI 30 years ago, and the decline of Drum Corps.

I haven't been enjoying it as much since Steve Carell left. There have been some good episodes in this last season, but the series has mostly jumped the shark. Catherine Tate's character drives me crazy! -

Oh, this thread again? Remember, everyone. You should type using HUGE font sizes. So that people KNOW you are SERIOUS. -

Has SCV not wanted the Vanguard yell for the past couple of years? Or did I just miss it? -
Ooh! Logical fallacies! Who cares?

You've been following drum corps since the fifties and still don't know how to spell corps correctly? Yeesh. P.S. Obvious troll is obvious. EDIT: AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH BRASSO GOT TO IT FIRST. BroncoTrooper FAIL!

TROOPERS! Where are you?
BroncoTrooper replied to Granny Smith's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
As good of a businessman as Fred is, I would bet he'll get it fixed. I have every confidence in him both as a fan of DCI in general as well as a Trooper alumni. There are so many things that flow "beneath the surface" that we just can't know everything. You are right though, an World Class corps such as the Troopers should not be beaten by an Open Class such as BDB (and I mean absolutely no slight to them). -
TROOPERS! Where are you?
BroncoTrooper replied to Granny Smith's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I can understand that, but I think I will wait a season or two more before calling for the design teams' collective heads. Every team is going to have an off year where the fans just don't "get it" or the show just doesn't show up well competitively (See: Cavaliers, 2012). It could be argued that there are similarities between this year and 2010, but to be fair, 2010 was a different design team whose hearts didn't really seem to be "in it" for that particular season. Just my .02 on that particular topic. -
TROOPERS! Where are you?
BroncoTrooper replied to Granny Smith's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
You really think they're going to fall all the way to 25th and not make the Friday show? I doubt that very much. I believe that a bunch of the corps is from Texas, hence having camps and such there. Also, much better weather in the winter. I could see maybe having all-days in Salt Lake, perhaps but that might be too far away from the start of their tour. Maybe if they get back onto doing the western tour first. -

I wish I could give Charlie Strong a red negative . . . Bush league. -
And you are saying I didn't read your posts? Clearly you haven't read mine.

Honestly, I think that is a good way for growth to happen. Why not start small? If stuff starts to take off, great!

For an hour or two here and there, or several hours at a time every so often, yes. Not all day, every day for three months. Other than that, I agree with many of the points you've made in this thread.
-
Yeah . . . I may not be an old-timer, but people have been making the "drum corps will be dead within x amount of years" argument forever. Guess what? It won't be.

I'm all for change, and for doing things differently to keep them from getting stale. I wouldn't like to see woodwinds simply because of the upkeep. I don't see a saxophone or clarinet holding up to the rigors of a tour through humid and hot, and then dry and hot weather. Pads wouldn't last very long, that's for sure. For me, it's simply a logistics issue.
