He's not upset about that. He is upset about his.....

Inappropriate "dad" joke that was never funny (pre-teens cackle as old people gasp and say "how cheeky")

According to some on the Crown thread, Crown doesn't amplify their hornline at all. Is that not true?
Was referencing SCV. And like I thought, not a word on their amplified brass. You can't call out one corps and give another a pass on it. Time for Steve and Dennis to retire seeing as they now have that old man opinion. Absolute trash from both of them. Old senile trash.

I love this show but if the announcers don't mention the hornline amplification as being "too much" here like they did with Bluecoats they lose every ounce of credibility and respect they once may have had in my eyes. This show should win. But it's an equal offender on that front.

There's that signature goo lol

Yes. Just tire of those "experts" who refuse to accept change.
I love this show but you can't look past clean JUST because of fun. Marching slightly out of time isn't intentional and certainly isn't HE. Freeform moments do a great job of showcasing "the point" but don't excuse out of time feet

Completely agree with you. The worshipping of the flag is just straight creepy. And totally unnecessary at events like these. Especially sporting events.
I also like band. I totally agree with you on this band related topic that was posted on this band forum. Your band point about band was very true. (This isn't a forum to air out your national beliefs. There are places tho do that. This isn't one. Band)

I thought you said you were unbiased... Weird, didn't you march BC?
This is why I have zero trust in your view of the top shows. You clearly have some bias.
They like something more than something else. QUICK THROW THEIR OPINION OUT THE WINDOW!

BD, SCV, and Crown have superior books in terms of chord tuning and in some cases fingering demands (e.g. Flight of the Bumblebee), but Bluecoats have more demand in terms of ensemble timing and environmental demand, two things that never seem to get the credit they deserve.
Bluecoats end on a d major chord. I'm glad, since they is naturally very easy to tune on Bb horns. Fingering demands? You guys must have your minds absolutely blown when people play arbans for you....

I would urge everyone to go look on YouTube a transcription of their show this year. Find me someone who thinks this book is a 4th place book and I will find you someone who does not understand brass playing

My 2 cents (that are probably worth even less to most other people).
At this scoring bracket with this spread... The difference in placement comes down to je ne sais quoi.
This non-propositional difference will become more static with time and coverage (as it has been). The performance figures at this level are negligible (meaning that if corps X is 'clearly' out performing corps Y, then the scores should be wider). Now, if this is true, one would think that the placements would be shuffling more than they have been for the past week and a half. But that gets back to my first point. Essentially, every judge is a GE judge. What I am seeing is a scenario where the judges would like to spread out the scoring of these top 4 more than it is... but they are actually bound by the technicalities of performance to keep them tight.
I think that the Bluecoats are likely to be isolated in a 4th position and the Blue Devils are going to be the same in 1st.
The action may be in spots 1-2 and maybe 5-7 (more like 6-8).
They still have a "contending" show by the numbers... But absent a major emotional shift... They will be an awesome 4th place crowd favorite.
Nothing wrong with that.
Clearly you haven't looked at the recap my dude. Either those almost random placements of captions were so meticulously planned to add up to a specific number from every judge, or that's just how it is. I wouldn't think the color guard judge said "oh they did good but putting their guard in 3rd wouldn't slot them properly into 4th place....so 6th it is."

There's more to demand than chords and a few double-tonguing section. Bloo's environmental demands, metric demands, and hocket rhythms are all vastly superior to anything SCV is doing in those same categories. I'll agree that SCV is stronger in their chords and double-tonguing, but focusing on those is incredibly myopic from a holistic musical perspective.
This 1000000%.
Having seen it live tonight I fully realize the timing demands. They have trading off eighth note passages across the field while jazz running. I would say Bloo has the most demanding brass book this year from a timing standpoint.

Anyone have corps rehearsal locations? I know Bloo is at centennial but I can't navigate most corps sites on my phone as well

I was going to go with Noisey Boise, but Idaho won't let me.
Back in 2007 my mom suggested to a worker they changed the name to "Noisey in Boise." They plain faced said "that's not the name of the show." They apparently don't include humor in the curriculum of this state...

Best SCV show in years, everyone thinks so. Why are the judges afraid to make that statement. Seamless transitions compared to other units. Great color guard. Awesome designed effects. Wicked good hornline. Best drums in DCI! Total package.
Consider that maybe they aren't afraid and ARE putting SCV ahead in captions they deserve it? And they have beaten BD in said captions a few times? And that's not what is holding them back? Maybe????????

Uh oh. I'm triggered. She's just fine.
I was referring more to the writing. I love Doug's solos. Always beautiful but that particular one doesnt have the same "chills" with wailing notes all over the place. Yet. Hoping to be won over because the reprise coming out of that is awesome

Might just be me but the trumpets duet for the guitar solo at the end isn't doing anything for me yet. Hopefully when more clean, it will be a bigger moment like last year's screamers. Last year I got goosebumps every time I heard those high notes and runs. This year, not quite yet.

They really need to massively cut the vocals. The show just goes downhill beginning with the ballad. I just don't understand that choice. The first half is great.
It's very true to their source music. Border line copied and pasted really. That said, I think any and all criticism should be placed on the design team, not the performers. The original song works for what it is, but makes for absolutely trash drum corps. Its a percussion ensemble piece and the brass really does seem an afterthought. Really unfortunate as this low brass line has SERIOUS beef going for them. Dark sonorous sounds being covered by """""art""""""

I really hope you find some source of true happiness in your life. Its kind of sad to see all of your spiteful posts and not see a sad man on the other side f the screen, who can't see through their sadness and loneliness to see the great products being put forth on the field.

Care to give the exact numbers of sections? What I saw wasn't large off from the high cam but I might have miscounted

Hm? They are right there. Right next to the current high score in DCI. Might be hard to see them with your hater shades on :)

It's better than hearing Rondaniro and Delucia blabber on about nothing waiting for scores. But I'll definitely enjoy watching the Bluecoats performance from last season.
My favorite part of every year is when they say dumb things on the podcasts and scores show something totally the opposite of what they said. Smiles, every time lol

Did anyone notice how seamless the corp uniform change was? WHEN DOES IT HAPPEN?? LOL
I also missed that change! Didn't feel at all like "run, hide behind scrims, layer back on to the field" at all. Very organic on and off. As for the show, it looks like it has the skeleton of a good show. Some clearer concept communication and some spitshine, and this could be a great show. I know there will be changes there, but the part with some of the corps dancing and dabbing and clapping on 1 and 3 and.......yeah that needs to change sooner than later. It was so good up to and leaving that moment. But boy howdy that part is so out of place and crappy high school band levels of cringe.

Saw the preview show online. I already know I will love this show come finals. Brassline already playing with a mature sound and looks like they were playing it smart with the drill. Not many loud AND fast sections in the show but I'm sure they will beef things up more as the season goes on. Colorguard and percussion playing at a great world class level. Very excited to see how this continues to shape up!
