  1. From the top row at the 50--I tend to agree. I've been wondering about this topic. Usually, for the quarterfinals we get seats in the "blast zone". I'm thinking about this year taking a sound level meter and measuring some of the loudest moments in the corps shows. Think I'll have problems--security thinking I'm recording the show, etc.? Also, it only goes up to 126 dB--not enough range?
  2. My son said they were looking forward to meeting BD tonight. GO CROWN!!!!
  3. Oh, I can hear the announcer now: "A last minute change...tonights encore will be performed by The Cavaliers instead of Carolina Crown. We hope the Crown staff can locate the remaining corps members who were last seen floating towards Florida after that freak gust of wind during Crown's performance." And: "All Night Long" would be great in a show or even for encores/parades!
  4. But only in domed stadiums! (You KNEW that was coming.)
  5. Congrats Cavies!!! Way to go Crown--breaking 90!!!
  6. From what I understand, when I&E was during Finals week, they couldn't spare the time away from the rest of the Corps. With it in San Antonio, there really wasn't enough time to put something together. But could be wrong.
  7. Nevermind--bad math. Was looking at the scores from Saturday and thought BD had only increased by 0.04, but it was really 0.4. Don't know where my mind was.
  8. I'm sorry, but all I can think of is the giraffe from Toys r Us. Any connection?
  9. You and me both!!! Crown had better bring their "A" game tonite. They will have to with the other C's there ('Coats, Cadets, & Cavies). GO CROWN!!!
  10. Excellent suggestion! My son tried out for the Cavies when he was 16 and had a blast at the audition camps. He didn't make it, but the staff passed his name along to Racine and he marched with them that year. I firmly believe that year in an Open Class corps prepared him so he could make Carolina Crown the next year. Yes--don't sit at home. Find yourself a corps and get out there and march!!!
  11. They said he couldn't read a lick of music, but still made it as a studio musician because he could play about anything after hearing it once.
  12. Don't give these guys on DCP any more ammunition than they already have!
  13. Yes, you are correct--a dome wouldn't have changed anything in the case of violent weather. And I DO like outdoor performances. I saw my first DCI competition many years ago in Denver in Mile High Stadium (the old one). I can still remember the chills I got from the awesome sound. It just seemed a shame after all that work and prep, many of the corps couldn't perform last night. Oh, well....
  14. I know the majority of you guys/gals hate domes, but maybe with this many corps at one competition, it should be held inside. I know PR and the corps that followed were disappointed they couldn't march. And so were the fans, many of whom travelled long distances to see them. Just my $0.02. P.S. to Michael Boo: Thanks much for the blog!!! Lots of interesting info.
  15. According to their website, Racine Scouts still sponsors bingo.
  16. I think Crown celebrated their (official?) 20th anniversary last year, but you didn't hear much about it because that was also the Cadets 75th.
  17. Yep--if you have an iPhone (or even an iPod), the DCI iPhone app is great!
  18. Agreed. While I'm hoping Crown breaks 90, I think the assumption is the first to 90 will be BD.
  19. Last year, we drove to a Marta station (Atlanta's mass transit) to avoid parking hassles at the stadium. We stayed for the scores and barely made the last train back to our car. So, if you use Marta be sure to check the schedules.
