  1. 2015 Rule Change The DCI BOD is currently reviewing potential rule changes for 2015. There seems to be several but the one that I find most interesting is the “Expansion and Enhancement of Visual Protocol”. This rule change is focused primarily on the visual component but can also affect other captions. Under the purposed rule change, each competing Corps will be allowed to bring up to 6 semi trucks on to the field to use for props, theatrics, additional electronics and wild and/or farm animals. As one Corps Director said, “If you like what we are doing now with all this stuff, wait to you see what we can roll out there with 6 Semis”. The sky is really the limit; I was thinking perhaps this might enable the use of many exciting elements from the Circus or Cage Fighting. The creative possibilities are endless. As another influential BOD member put it “We have really just scratched the surface with changing this art from and you just wait, in a few years you won’t even recognize it”. Tru Dat! I don’t know about you but I am so done with Massive Brass lines just blowing your face off and a Drum line that rocks like a machine of rhythm and precision. The old days of straight forward talent simply making your jaw drop are finally over with. I for one can’t believe we had to wait this long to create some unrecognizable thing that for reasons not understood by me is called a Drum and Budge Corps.? WTF is that all about. Anyway I hope you are all as excited as I am with respect to the “Expansion and Enhancement of Visual Protocol” More Cow Bell? Hell I say More Chairs, Trampolines and Bigger and Bigger Stages. First Corps to use Dancing Elephants wins my vote.
  2. This observation is simply not true. The placement of a Corps is a result of the composite. Program, Design, Member Talent effort and execution as well as the instructional methods etc. IF Corps placement was purely a result of the “Adult Staff” then the following would also be true. You could take all the member from the Blue Stars put them in Crown last year and hey still would have been DCI Champions. This is obviously not true You could replace all of the members of Troopers with the members from BD and they still would have not made 2013 finals. Also not true Certainly the design team, staff, and program all make a difference but change the performers and the results will also change. Do not underestimate how important the performers are!
  3. Just seems to me the world was better with both. We had Bands and we had Drum and Bugle Corps. Now (or soon) they will Eventually be more or less the same. Seems to me, 1 is less than 2. Sorry but I just really dig Drum and Bugle Corps and all the changes have not made it better (for me) Yes I know How Obtuse
  4. Its Called a BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its a Sad Day for Drum Coprs and I guess a good day BOA. I guess we can just chang ethe name to "Drum and WHATEVER Corps" Whatever is usally not a good thing!
  5. Let be start by saying I never pull for BD. I dislike their program approach and have for many years. My entire Drum Corps past has been with SCV and I naturally root against the Devils. Tonight’s percussion score will determine if Crown has any chance of being named DCI Champion. If BD maintains the percussion spread over Crown tonight, there is no chance Crown will come out on top tomorrow. If two judges give BD a +1 point spread in percussion on two consecutive nights, the 3rd judge is highly unlikely to see it drastically differently on the 3rd consecutive performance. Yes they could narrow the spread but if you are at all objective the statistics say BD is going to win. Yes there are years in the past when the unexpected happened, it’s just very unlikely. If you are holding out for one of these events (and if SCV was in your position I would be) fine. Just realize it a low probability. Tonight is very important for Crown. If Crown’s percussion can gain maybe .3 tenths tonight and another .3 tomorrow night then you can see a path to victory. If not, its game over. So again this is Crowns most import show of the year and will determine their fate. This is just IMHO. Go Crown and Spoke those stupid poles SCV. Let’s see how many Babies you can get thrown from the Stands!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BD Congratulations on yet another real sleeper of a show. So sad to see how so much talent is misused. Imagine if they used it to Rock the Drum Corps World with a kick A%$ program.
  6. Next year they will all be turned into Jack-N-The-Boxes
  7. Just to be clear, my perspective was not in relation to years gone by
  8. Why would you feel compelled to think you should or could tell people what opinion to have (I think it is brilliant,. Y'all need to stop complaining, get your head out of the "drum corps box" and start looking at this medium as more than just good band like it used to be). And you also what to tell others how they should or should not view Drum Corps? Really ? So nice to see how open minded to other perspectives you are. Can I assume you’re still single. LOL
  9. I think its remote for two reasons 1) Percusion Delta 2) BD's consistantcy and ability to close And its just my Opinioun.
  10. And then there were two. Some level of suspense remains between BD and Crown however a Crown title seems remote. The 1.0 percussion deficient has been more or less consistent all year and will not been decreased a significant amount in <48 hours. If BD performs as they have, and as you would expect, Crown will have to wait another year to potentially capture the DCI title. As for the Cadets, they are simply not in the running for the title. Overall they trail BD by 1.1 and are placing 4th in Visual (.85 behind BD). They can narrow the gap but winning a title is no longer in the cards for the Cadets. NO matter the placement, Santa Clara can go home with the title of most improved and at least tide with Crown for Fan Favorite. (If not the outright winner). It seems unlikely they will catch the Cadets for a medal. However,They have now placed themselves in the conversation as a future title contender which up to this point has not been the case. The Sanford trophy is clearly undecided and SCV has a great opportunity here. It probably comes down to who controls the sheet. At the end of the day, we place too much importance on placement derived from the un-quantitative Opinion of 8 judges. The accuracy of a judge to score 150 performers for over 12 minutes, IMO cannot be accurately resolved to tenths of a percent. It’s just an educated opinion and the only method we have. Yes drum corps needs competition and a winner has to be selected. It’s cool to win and drives the organizations and the activity, we just need to keep it all in perspective. Thanks to ALL OF the Corps for a fantastic 2013. We may not like all of the artistic direction of the programs. We may all ##### and moan about narration, electronics and the judging system but this is their time, not ours. We did our thing and we should let them do theirs. Hell if you don’t like it, don’t worry, it will continue to evolve. And if you still don’t like it, go do something else or start you own Corps. Yes fan support is very import for the activity however Drum Corps is first about the marching members. No members, no program and then no fans. I am certain that even with narration, electronics and blab la bla, every member of every Corps had a life changing experience and one that will shape who they are and who they become. For me, This is what Drum Corps is about.
  11. Thank you sir for all that you have given us this year. Your post is by far the most interesting piece on all of DCP. Well written, funny, cassy and with NO Agneda. Thank you You captured Drum Corps as IT IS!
