  1. I wonder now if any props will be a part of this--listening to Shaker Loops I wonder if they will have orbs or balls --or hoops as props or equipment? after seeing all the music and explanation it doesn't feel at all like a rehash of Tilt in mood or approach
  2. Seems very thorough explanation. Hope it will be easier to grasp when on thefield. Both the kinetic part and the noise part. Just hope not overly intellectualized. Excited for sure
  3. As for trying to make it look like more people are there, even in the finals DVD yI can't really get a sense of the upper levels, in my opinion, because of the design of the sections with the concrete walls etc. Plus the camera seems to focus a lot on the lower tiers--That is on finals DVD--not sure for other broadcast because i normally go for all three competitons that week.
  4. With Bluecoats Show Announcement-Kinetic Noise--I am predicting they may once again innovate their use of Electronics--hope so anyway
  5. Very Cool Graphic--but is that supposed to be the B of their logo? Any other music announcement?
  6. I am looking forward to how they will present all the SOndheim, and wonder if it will be more of a story than theme--it sounds like story from their description (Phantom's Journey of a couple years ago came to mind)
  7. What good timing--because the Blue Devils Just announced their show "Ink" Let the discussion threads begin
  8. I have to say I have enjoyed reading this thread and all the great comments and insights. It is a nice change to read some in depth analysis of some other corps. The threads about specific corps tend to dominate the discussions (not a bad thing)--like Cadets Crown and Madison, so it is nice to see some other corps analyzed for whatever reason. I would love to hear more about the Blue Devils for instance, but their thread doesn't come out until the season starts--it seems to me--maybe because it seems now a given they are always a contender or good bet ofr a win, that they aren't as discussable.. So anyway thanks to all the good posts.
  9. I agree with this as well. And as for the Bluecoats--after their 2010 Metropolis 3rd place, they came back the next year with Brave New World, which for me seemed similar in feel--they tried to be a little edgier in their music choice, a lot more dissonance in the music, and for me it seemed they were trying to recapture and magnify what they had achieved in 2010--and i realize it was the same designer, so maybe that explains the similar feel of it. I and hope they don't have the drop in placement like Crown's either. . So as with all pre season fears, i guess i hope they don't try to increase what they had with Tilt and just make it more of the same. But as always it will be fun to watch how it all plays out.
  10. Now I know this announcement is NOT an April Fools joke! haha Once again a modern edgy sound. Bluecoats should be amazing on this one as well.
  11. So you are Saying the Bluecoats will move down? It will be an interesting season for sure if all bring a great show--so hard to predict but that's the joy of Drum Corps in the winter!!
  12. Always excited to hear news from the Bluecoats. This piece sounds great and I can imagine the Bluecoats putting their signature sound and use of electronics to great effect on this one.
  13. I am curious if anyone knows whether a Corps, when planning their schedule, knows who they will be competing against? Do they make their schedule with that knowledge? or is it not known what other Corps will be there? Just interested if anyone can add some insight into that? I ask because when i look at some of the line ups i wonder why a corps chose that competition over another one. Thanks
  14. thanks for the insight--anyone else getting theirs? I ordered mine and nothing yet.
  15. Oh no say it isn't true! Anyone else get their CD? whats your verdict?
  16. MikeN Thanks for the great post. I loved your insights for sure. I am never sure if the uniform is taken into consideration for scores, but it seems to me some do add to the overall effect of the show. Your insights are spot on. Loved reading this
  17. I am curious to hear what people thought of the uniforms this year--did you think some of them helped the corps or hindered them in some way. Here are my opinions on a few Hindered-for me-mostly in visual Boston Crusaders--I liked their show for the most part, but i feel the mostly black uniforms hindered their visual in drill. With the front mostly black, I feel I couldn't really see their movement so well--the only time there was a contrast was when they turned to the back, and then there was some red to help the look f their forms. Overall not sure if this took anything away from the show and/or score Phantom Regiment--for me there wasn't enough white contrast with the black--and the black outfit looked more like a costume than a Phantom uniform--again so much black for me loses some of the definition in marching and forms. Blue Knights- I enjoyed their show immensely--The uniform however never seemed to have impact for me at any time--so much of it was in the middle tones of light blue-gray-white--that again i was looking for more contrast and punch from their design--when they turned or stopped etc. Madison--too much white in my opinion-bleached out the whole show in some ways for me. Blue Devils--Loved their show--the white front piece looked a little shabbly or too loose for me. Uniforms that worked for me Bluecoats--a great improvement over last years all deep blue and black-with the addition of more white--the plume, the white tilted sash-white gloves--all added punch and a great visual for me--color guard as well Blue Stars--after the coveralls opening--i really liked the uniform change--added a lot of edge for me--given the more casual free form look of the furniture, big cardboard boxes etc--it really made them look sharp Cadets--visually they have the most classic Drum Corps look and I love it--the clash of sash color at times with the Maroon didn't help me much but wasn't a big hinderance Carolina Crown--Really loved the uniforms last year and the color this year worked for me. Cavaliers--Classic as well and I loved seeing them return to their strengths Ok just a few thoughts and was wondering what other opinions there are out there
  18. Love how the statistics can help put it all in perspective--what a great achievement for the Bluecoats--posted on their facebook is a great letter from their board of directors--really heartfelt!-
  19. Oh my--the chances of it happening let alone that he had a camera on it--amazing--i saw it live and this just makes it so up close--what an age out story--i loved Crown's show--
  20. I would like to say that i got to see the Cadets and Bluecoats live about 8 times this year--and the Cadets rarely got a great ovation after their show--people clapped and cheered, but it never came close to how the Bluecoats were received at every show--so i am sure all corps were aware of the reactions Bluecoats were getting and of course would not be surprised at the reaction on Finals. The nature of final scores is set up to build suspense for the top winners--and in a year when several corps were moving in position it made for an exciting announcement. Had they started with 1st and moved down then Cadets would have gotten their moment from the crowd and i believe it would have been on par with all season's reactions to their show and placement
