They will wind up the 2014 season with the Corps Christmas Party on December 19. The Militaires are looking forward to a busy season in 2015 with a number of engagements already in the books. They are actively looking for additional members in all sections. For anyone in the Western NY area they are literally 5 minutes from the US border at the Rainbow Bridge. For more information go to www.militairesalumni.com
  3. We have a bunch of 2 valve horns all voices Sop FH Alto Mello Bari Contra. Like Russ says what are you willing to pay and where are you located?
  4. Boston should take a lead from the Alumni Corps. Their unis are SHARP and classic looking. The red and black work well together but one Colour should not dominate.
  5. The song is "The Maple Leaf Forever" It almost became our National Anthem. Opti did it proud yesterday!
  6. I would have thought that Mighty St. Joes would be a part of the Alumni Show seeing its in their back yard!
  7. Really too bad that Mighty St Joes isn't there this year. It's basically their backyard!
  8. Trombones ,guitars amps etc are NOT Drum Corps instruments plain and simple!
  9. It seems these days we go WAY too PC in a lot of things. It's College "pranks" that have gone on for years, traditions etc. I don't condone ANY form of sexual assault, abuse etc but the other stuff is kids being kids.
  10. Actually it's the old DUFFERIN Track RCASC Trumpet Band later Jesters.
  11. I always get PO when I see something on EBay for a decent price until I see the shipping and handling "charges" sometimes 3x what the item costs! Robbery! eBay says a seller can charge what they choose.
  12. I've always had good service with GC. (Amherst NY) If that store hasn't got what I want they can have it in a couple of days from another store usually Rochester. The one bad thing I have found is they don't offer much $$$ when you try and sell them anything used.
  13. Try Guitar Center Sam Ash and see if they will give you a "volume deal"Sticks are getting costly these days,My first pair of Ludwig 3S in 1960 cost $1.25!
  14. You could set it up like the Baseball HOF. Have a show right there. Hold the HoF Ceremonies there. The possibilities are enormous. Get the major manufacturers involved but don't forget the ones like a LUDWIG whose drums almost every Corps played at one time or the other. Too bad they couldn't keep up and compete with Pearl,Yamaha etc.
  15. I like that they used the words "drum instructor" not battery tech tenor tech etc.
  16. The Niagara Memorial Militaires Alumni Drum Corps based in Niagara Falls Ontario elected a new Board of Directors at their recent Annual General Meeting. The results are as follows. Tom Garrett President Mary Anne Walton Vice President Angela Aniol Secretary John Hunt Treasurer, Rick Allen Business Manager Don Toy Quartermaster Jerry Gautreau Member at Large. The Militaires Alumni formed in 2006 by members of the original corps that was active from 1949-64 are the only Drum Corps left in the Niagara area which once boasted 16 Corps both Jr. and Sr. They are primarily a Parade Corps but are now branching out and doing standstill concerts at various venues. Their music selections for 2014 written by Harold McJury (Brass) and Rick Allen (Percussion) will consist of the following pieces. Meadowlands March Militaire The Bunker Drum Solo Phantom of the Opera Music Man Medley Mighty Niagara Drum Solo My Romance Downtown The Militaires percussion section is unique in this day and age as like Scout House they have a glockenspiel section made up,of wives of some of the members. The "Rockin'Glockers" as they are known are featured in two numbers "Small World" and "The Longest Day" as well as supporting the lead soprano line playing the melody parts. The Millie's are looking forward to a great 2014 and will kick off the new season by taking part in United Alumni's great indoor show "And the Bands Played On" May 10 along with several of Ontario's fine Alumni Corps as well as "Mighty St. Joe's" from the US. For more information on the Corps go to www.militairesalumni.com
  17. I've seen old ads from the 30's 40's from bugle manufacturers that showing two lines of bugles G-D piston models and Bb-F piston models for sale.I believe they were Holton and Conn horns. Both had similar voices Soprano Tenor Baritone. The US Marine Drum and Bugle Corps used both voices. Bb when marching with the Marine Band and the G-D when performing by themselves. So really Bb is nothing new!
  18. US Marine Drum and Bugle Corps Plain simple CLASSIC ! known throughout the world!
  19. You could put a Drum Corps museum in almost any State or in some cases City! There "should " be a museum for our activity but as usual WHERE? Is Indianapolis the Holy Grail of marching music now? Should DCI DCA have their own separate museums? What ever happened to Bobby Bellarosa's collection? Ray Osherhoff's bugle collection? etc
  20. Would the high ticket cost be due to the performance fee's the various Corps charge to attend?
  21. We have 2 valve Mellos Altos and Frenchies I believe they are all DEGs
  22. Here in Canada like in the British Army different horns were used to sound the various bugle calls. Infantry and Rifle Regiments used the short Bb bugle Artillery Regiments used the "G" Trumpet Cavalry Regiments used the Eb Trumpet Not sure about the US Army and Navy but wouldn't be surprised if it was similar. I recall seeing in some of the old catalogs most bugle makers made G piston Bugles as well as Bb models as well. The US Marine Drum Corps had two sets of horns. Bb when they marched with the Marine Band and G-D when they performed by themselves. I believe they were made by Holton.
