  1. That said, given the increasing practicality of the technology, I would LOVE to see body/head cams become a standard thing for finals week if not at other events. And then from there integrated into their recorded products on Fan Network and elsewhere. Have the staff of each corps pick a few members who are in ideal positions in the drill or whatever, and strap them on. Then you can work the footage into an alternative multi-cam mix or make it a selectable angle/audio track on the Blu-rays (although there are space issues when you start talking about that, which is unfortunate). Add judge cam angles too with the judge tape audio that should also be part of a premium Finals video package, too, and designer commentary, and post-show critiques from the judges or whomever explaining the scores. I could go on...
  2. Don't forget music licensing permission and costs. Of course, they do post lot videos and various other snippets on their Youtube channel. And you can hear *enough* of the music on the MM cam for persnickety music owners to have a claim. So I don't really know what the line is there.
  3. Your comment just made me realize... it's not just light and a prism... Would it get some wind for the sailboat?
  4. I agree this is likely to happen at some point. I also agree that no one would notice the lack of tubas in the Blue Devils' post-2009 sound. But people will care, and it'll be a sad day for the activity.
  5. Well, attendance is important, but what garfield was pointing out is that maximizing attendance was not the top priority in choosing the 10 year LOS contract. And regardless of those considerations, if attendance is growing, then it's fantastic news.
  6. Lots of the little weird choreography the Crown members are doing--the writing-on-invisible-chalkboard hand motions in the brass, or the hand motions of the four singers during their feature, or the kicking, and the slow motion running, are all either straight from or at least inspired by the EotB choreography. I kept noticing more and more little bits of that as the show progressed over the season. Blue Devils did the same in their show, using some choreography from the original production of RoS. Did anyone notice the Blue Devils brass player who was doing the gazelle-type jumps off to the far left? He could get some air!
  7. Makes me wonder if Blue Devils have actually been forming rotated shapes of countries for the past couple of years...
  8. Been peeking into Crown's wormhole? Glad to hear the Scouts are still kicking in 90 years. Maybe I understand "political correctness" differently than you. As far as I know there's no campaign or petitions to stop Cadets or any other corps from using faux-weaponry in the guard. So if Hop or whomever on Cadets staff want to use alternative guard equipment, then more power to them, I say. I think the phrasing of their advertisement is pretty amusing and ironic given the rest of the Cadets identity and image. But it doesn't really matter what their motivations are. Maybe they're a fan of danielray's posts.
  9. That's the first time I've seen security overreach equated with political correctness. I'm guessing the guard knew the rule against umbrellas (which are generally banned at such venues because using them is incredibly rude to other concert-goers especially in an amphitheater type setting), and made the mistake of assuming it was because of its potential as a "weapon". But the mistake in your story was not that of the security guard, but of your friend not being sufficiently deferential to the security guard. They have all the power in that scenario and humiliating them is not going to win any points. If a security guard, policeman, or TSA agent tells you something is against the rules, arguing with them and joking about committing violence is going to get you barred from entry if not arrested.
  10. The CDs also contain the best possible stereo mix of the recordings. Versus the APDs which are pretty much just straight off the live mix. They have a lot of mikes covering several different points in the stadium, so they can do a lot with the recording to make it sound as good as possible for the CD, which is definitely worth getting.
  11. From 2003, there's an article on dci.org that claims 40,000 in 1981. However, according to DrumCorpsWorld in April 2007, "Attendance numbers at the 1981 DCI Finals were estimated at 36,000 by DCI, but anybody involved with Les Chatelaines swears still today that there actually were 40,000 people at Olympic Stadium that night." These photos from 1981 finals indicate that yes, the end zones were basically filled, and the back sideline had plenty of people as well:
  12. And I thought telling DCI's directors what they were doing wrong is what DCP was for...
  13. I saw Blue Devils perform live twice, and I'm pretty sure I didn't manage to see any particular thing more than once between both viewings.
  14. I suppose I agree that their drill itself didn't stand out as the most interesting of the year, excepting the rotating tetrahedron, but it was difficult and they executed it extremely well, and they do a lot of other interesting things visually that make up for the less interesting drill. I do think the best year for drill design from Crown was 2009, though the visual execution was their weak spot that year. But that show had some truly incredible and effective drill design, in my opinion. The pulsating, rotating storm that transitions into a block with a ribbon moving through and the flip-flopping arrows, and the rotating blocks with guard-run-through into the big diamond that jumps sideways, and the lead-up to the snake form... yes, I believe these are the technical names for the moves. 2008 had some fantastic moments as well, but there were some pretty iffy transitions. Although the homages to older famous drill are brilliant in and of themselves.
  15. Can't do anything about it after it's been removed. But if you see a video you like that you think will get taken down, that'll work. Psst... and the instructions mean, change "www.youtube.com" to "www.ssyoutube.com".
  16. I never saw Tinkerbell shove Crown's drum major off the podium until a year or two later.
  17. Geometrically speaking, the shape they made was a tetrahedron which is a prismatoid, specifically a pyramid, but not a prism. Prisms have to have two parallel and identical flat sides.
  18. Some up and coming corps should hire Pyware's demo writer then, if he can come up with drill that gets 2nd and 4th place content scores.
  19. Not to mention the benefit to the performers of a huge excited audience.
