  1. Saying "if GE wasn't part of the criteria, BD wouldn't be be winning", is the old "if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle" line of reasoning. Audience reaction is a thing, but no way should it be some sort of component of the judging criteria. The general public is understandably biased. They'd scream like heck for some things, and sit on their hands for others based on who they inherently like and don't like, regardless of its actual quality. If audience reaction was part of the criteria Scouts, PR and Troopers would have a ton of championships.
  2. Accurate. When your core staff that knows how to design winning shows has very little turnover in decades, and you're fielding the most talented corps every year, you're going to win. A lot. In sports terms, BD gets their pick of 5 star recruits.
  3. Amen. The only response we should give, if any, is.........21.
  4. Granted, but even GE dominance doesn't usually equal that kind of spread with those sort of music captions scores.
  5. If you would've told me that any corps could come in fourth in percussion and brass and win by more than a point in any show I would've said you were crazy.
  6. Is it me, or did they ramp up the tempo a little bit tonight? Especially the opener.
  7. I'm going to fully admit that I didn't realize until tonight that the ending held note of the ballad was from the trombone soloist and not a flugelhorn. Even more impressive.
  8. Yeah, gonna disagree. Crown came rugged tonight. The circle in the middle wasn't great, but those closing sets were great. Brass showed out big time.
  9. Percussion continues to be a grab bag after Cavies in first. Crown now back to 5th when they had a string of high placements the last few shows.
  10. I have to think the closer still isn't done. That all out sprint half the corps does to the final set is nearly impossible to clean.
  11. Percussion caption has been the most volatile this year. Crown was running 4th or 5th routinely, now they're near the top. I pointed out a while ago the issue BD was having with their achievement versus content scores and whether or not it was time to break out the hose. We're going to find out.
  12. Agreed. I think BD throws some cold water on the haters by putting .75 or higher on Crown tonight.
  13. Not sure who you're referring to, but I accept it just fine. May the best corps win, regardless of who it is. I simply said closing the gap on Devs, and beating them, are two different things.
  14. Impressive turnaround. Sanford is as big a toss up this year than any other I can remember. At least recently.
  15. I embrace it just fine, because BD still hasn't been beaten. Closing the gap is one thing. Beating BD next Saturday is another. If someone manages to do that, more power to them.
  16. When is the last time somebody said BD had a good run? Seriously, seems like every single show the comment is "BD won but had a shaky run." I'm not complaining because it's a sign of BDs strength if true and I'm all for that, obviously.
  17. Loved the show tonight. Been 5 years since I'd seen a show. Took my whole family with me. Quick thoughts on a few shows. Mandarins- Loved the show. Crowd was on their feet at the end. Pulling for them. Bluecoats- Respect their performers, but not a fan of the show concept and design at all. Crown- No original thoughts here. Drumline ain't it. Rest of corps is excellent, but they don't have a show to maximize their talent. BD- What else is there to say? Just a better overall product. Period. They just look and sound like no other.
  18. I'm heading to the show tonight. Can't wait. I'm in Miami so I don't see many shows. Have't seen a DCI show since NightBeat 2017.
