  1. Cleaning out my loft this week I "found" two mellophones. I need to work out which one is F and which one is G. Bit of context, I used to run a Corps in the UK and since we folded in 2020 I have all the equipment stored in my lock up and was adamant one of the kids had stolen a mellophone when we folded. Lo and behold it was in my loft all along sat with an older Mellophone from years back before we changed to Bb/F instruments in 2012. I know one is in F and I think the other is in G - Both are Kanstul 3v Mellophones. How do I tell which one is F and which one is G as I have no clue which is which. Is it as simple as the length of the tubing as both look almost identical but I am 99% sure one is from the new horns we got in 2012 direct from Kanstul. Thanks in advance for any advice!
  2. Its on Labour Day weekend - I got this in writing from the DCA office last week. They tell me its Labour Day Weekend for 2022 & 2023 Maybe the Directors will force a change in the future? I have seen this mentioned on one or two Facebook posts. Not been to Rochester for DCA (my only experience is W/Port 2018 & 2019), heard great things and awful things about Rochester from various people. At least it will be live again!
  3. Yeah great, ill be with my son I will likely be wearing a suit as the HOF dinner is very formal. A cadence tour jacket will be visible so you wont have trouble finding me.
  4. Hey Folks so only a few days before I leave jolly old England fro the DCA Championships. Looking forward to being back amongst the DCA Corps and fans. 2018 was a great year for me bow out of Summer drum corps so I cant wait to see what the Corps have in store. Seems I picked a good year, getting close at the top and regardless of the winners there are some great battles down the order....win win I think. BigW - I will try to catch your solo performance if I can. I have the DCA VIP reception at 5:30 then a break before the hall of fame dinner so lets hope I can catch you play. If not I will try to find you during the evening, I will have my USA cell phone with me so PM me your number and Ill try to call you. Paul Cadence Director
  5. I was very happy last year so I am sure all will be good. I got to stand in the midst of the mellophones last time so looking for a repeat. Also got to met the lovely Larry Kerchsner, hope hes there again this year.
  6. I am coming to DCA finals. All the way from London, England. As director of Cadence I toured with the Corps in DCA last Summer and had a blast so I am coming back to meet old friends in DCA and hopefully make new ones. I will be found in the midst of the Cabelleros Alumni Corps on Friday night dancing my stuff as per last year. I am arriving Thursday, going to the hall of fame dinner as a guest of Doreen Sandor on Friday then staying for the weekend. Se you all there....
  7. Hi Gents Yes we ahad our first outing Sunday 17 at DCUK Barnsley. It was a typical early season show for us...nervy, a few calamities (the entire first act) but the members finished strong which was great. Its probably difficult to predict the Dcuk sheets compared to DCA as we have 3 field judges. I’ll try to find the boxe sheets @BigW if it will help you answer the half guess. in Dcuk all corps stay in open class until after prelims then it’s split before finals in the evening dependant on the number of corps competing. For example 9 corps in prelims split three a class finals then six open class finals. We have hovered around third or fourth in open class for the past four years but I am not afraid to admit that after Kidsgrove and the Company in the top two there is a bit of a gulf of approx. 10 points most years to the next few corps...we hope to make that gap smaller this year and beyond. Our choice to declare A class in DCA was based on our member numbers and what we saw as comparable competition. Now A class has filled out a bit it will be interesting to see what the two from open (sky and gold) are like this Summer. I have looked for videos from the first two DCA shows on the web but nothing seems to have made it out yet. In less than ten weeks we hit the USA with our first show appearance at the Reading show and I think we have highland regiment there too so it will be great to get some competition before finals weekend. see you soon.
  8. We at Cadence are stoked to have such a healthy A Class. It does mean making finals is harder as only four go through but the experience for the kids will be enough. I just hope people get in their seats early to see the A Class prelims. Out of interest what are the crowds like for A Class prelims at DCA? paul
  9. Hi All Cadence from the UK are competing in the DCA Championships this Summer for the first time and are looking for field technicians (brass, percussion and visual) in all sections to join us for the all or some of the two week tour. We would also like to explore the chance to bring a sound technician on board. Ideally this would be suited to anyone recently aged out or ageing out this Summer from DCI, those who are looking for extra credits on their college course or even if you cant commit to a full DCA season but could give us two weeks in August this year. We will provide a bed in a shared hotel room for the duration of the tour for those who we make agreements with, breakfast/lunch is provided most days. As I am sure you can imagine we are on a tight budget for this tour so there may not be options for payment but we hope the experience will be great for any aspiring staff member or DCA vet. If you feel you would like to get involved with a young Corps first visit to the USA please contact me here: info@cadenceperformingarts.org.uk Paul Riddell Corps Manager

  11. Hi All Cadence are really looking forward to coming over to DCA. I spent the weekend at the DCA meeting in December and was bowled over by the love for drum corps in the room and the friendship offered by all directors. We are aiming to make class A finals of course but if we don't there is no sweat. Thee experience is the main thing. See you all in August.
