  1. Bristol, RI Corps I look forward to seeing: Crossmen, Jersey Surf, and Cadets
  2. I was in high school marching band, and one of the percussionists told me to look up the Cadets if I wanted to see some really intense performers. I looked them up on youtube, and as I watched them, I did my research, and found out more about each corps. I then found the full show of Phantom Regiment 2008 , and after watching it, I was hooked
  3. Brass: Spirit of Atlanta 1980 Percussion: Garfield Cadets 1987 Guard: Blue Devils 2010 Visual: Cadets 2011
  4. If you don't mind me asking, what corps are you marching in or auditioning for? Personally, I would try to get the same horn that my corps uses. That being said, My personal favorite horn for marching is a Dynasty. Despite the fact that I am a tuba player, I occasionally play euphonium. I personally do not like the Yamaha horns. I find that Yamaha low brass is stuffy. I have not tried the quantum or the system blue horns, so I can't really chime in on those. On the topic of the Dynasty, I know that the Corpsvets of Atlanta have at least one Dynasty euphonium for sale
  5. Did you hear this at this weekend's camp? If so, I am pumped! ESOM was one of my favorite pieces of the season
  6. This hurts me a little bit as a tuba player, but as a poor college student it excites me
  7. First off, Welcome to the Planet! Second, when most people say they march vibes or something similar, it most usually means they were in the pit, or front ensemble for whatever corps they were in. No current DCI or DCA corps use marching mallet instruments, it is all grounded, so you wouldn't really need to build a set of vibes for the purpose of marching DCI or DCA. Prior to 1980, I believe, all instruments had to be marched, so then marching mallet instruments would have to have been used. So, it sounds like an interesting project, but it is unlikely going to be useful, and using this type of instrument will put you in damage of back pain
  8. My favorite moment happened at the Bristol, RI show this summer. At the show it was raining, and then as the Crossmen were playing Hallelujah, the sun came out. I found it to be one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Besides that, I had several favorites: Jersey Surf - Kiss from a Rose Cadets: Whole Show Spirit of Atlanta: Harlem Nocturne Blue Knights: Tenor players from the pit Cascades: Whole Show Madison Scouts: Empire State of Mind Bluecoats: Creep Crossmen: Hallelujah Colts: Swan Lake
  9. I know it is a bit late, but on the DCA side, Bucs, Minnesota Brass, and Hurcs, all used dynasty brass this year
  10. In the past two days, I have had two random drum corps encounters The First happened yesterday when I was in my school's cafeteria. I was walking to go use the bathroom or something and some guy stops me and asks me who my favorite corps is. I was a little confused, but I then remembered I was wearing a Crossmen shirt. We got to talking, turns out he marches in Blessed Sac's A guard. He was telling me that he is doing DCA this summer. It turns out that we are both going to audition at the Connecticut Hurricanes this year. The second one occurred at work today. I teach several swim classes and lifeguard at my local YMCA, and after one of the classes I was getting my whistle and shirt back on, and one of the mothers spots my Bluecoats lanyard that I keep my whistle on. She asked if I liked corps, and then we got to talking. She has never marched, but she loves to go see the corps
  11. There is one up on ebay if you search marching tuba
  12. The closest one to him appears to be Cincinnati Tradition. According to Google Maps, it is a little more than a two hour drive from Indianapolis to Cincinnati
  13. Though I'm not a trumpet player, I have dabbled on it. Out of all of the horns I have tried I liked the King Horn best
  14. This one happened fairly recently. A couple of weeks ago, I was working one of my normal shifts at work, and because it was incredibly early, I was humming a drum corps show to stay awake. I think it was either Phantom of the Opera or Appalachian Spring, but I digress. I was humming the music, and one of the members asked me what I was humming, so I told him. He then asked me if I had ever heard of the Garfield Cadets or Hawthorne Caballeros. I said yes, and he said that his HS band director was Don Angelica. We now have regular drum corps conversations when he comes in. I found it to be a nice little drum corps connection @ 6 in the morning.
  15. I do appreciate the offer, but we would really like to use Pearl. Thank you though
  16. Hey there, I am hoping that any of you could help me with this. I am helping to start an indoor percussion ensemble and we are looking to lease/rent some pearl drums. Our only requirement besides being Pearl Drums is that we would like them to be brushed silver, but any color works for us. Thank you all! BTW, the instrumentation we are working with is as follows. 8 Snares 4 Tenors 2-4 "flubs 4 basses
  17. So, what do pushups and the helpfulness of said pushups in holding a euphonium have to do with JD Shaw leaving as brass arranger for Phantom?
  18. I would like some corps to tackle Eminence Front by The Who. That would be amazing
  19. I would like to give an All-Cesario award to Jersey Surf. Their shows are consistently entertaining, and they are run extremely smartly. They may not be the most competitive, but they exude classc in everything they do, on and off the field
  20. I see, I figured it was just from me blasting Spirit of Atlanta's 1980 show @ work
  21. Tweeting them right now. hopefully something good will come of this
