  3. I know the USMC drum corps shows here in the past, but everyone calls it a marching band. Thankfully I am exposing people of all ages to drum corps. I had some woman where I work ask me if I knew of SCV becaus I had a Bluecoats lanyard on. Also, got someone to like Cadets because of some vids I have.
  4. Would like to point out the East Coast Jazz is attempting to make a return. Also, I took 3 guys 2 their first dci show last summer. One switched to trombone and Bari, and he and I are going to audition @ hurcs next summer. One was angry and sullen, for some reason, and one has decided he will be contra section leader for Carolina Crown. I appreciated the different responses. I hope dci and dca both make a return to Mass. Also, can cape cod get a corps going
  5. Too late! Jersey Surf has already announced show theme
  6. In all fairness, I am a new fan. I only started following DCI in 2008. Also, I apologize for the incorrect information. I did not see the guard. my bad
  7. In what year did the Garfield Cadets not march a color guard?

  11. What do you mean drum corps is over for another season? DCA is still going strong. In fact there are 5 shows next weekend: 8/20/11:Scranton, PA 8/20/11:St. Paul, MN 8/20/11:Douglasville, GA 8/21/11:St. Peter, MN 8/21/11:Secaucus, NJ
  12. All I know is what I was told by my drum instructor, who was Colin's teacher in high school.
  13. When Colin marched @ BAC, he was in the Les Miserables show
  14. Whoever has the highest average score in each caption will win that caption.
  15. THE ROOF BEING CLOSED IS RUINING DCI!!!!! IT SHOULD BE OPEN SO THE SHOW CAN BE CANCELLED DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER!!!!! THIS IS THE LAST STRAW, I AM LEAVING DCI FOREVER!!!!!!!!!! /sarcasm
  16. fun fact: Fish can actually drown. http://artvoice.com/issues/v10n15/week_in_review/how_to_drown_a_fish
  17. I too prefer King for horns. For drums I am much more biased. I like PEARL with REMO.
  18. Phantom is only on Dynasty drums. Boston is on Mapex drums, and both corps use Jupiter brass.
  19. Personally I like both circuits, but prefer DCI. As has been said before, participants in DCI corps should be monsters w/ their instruments because they practice basically every day. DCA corps are weekend warriors, but they too have the monster players. I think one of the reasons that DCA's average age is dropping is because in this economy, it is financially smarter for one who is DCI eligible to do DCA. If someone wants to do DCI, they give up an entire summer of earning money to do something they love, which I respect. DCA on the other hand, is weekends only, so a student might have to give up some hours from work, based on where their corps is located, but it is smarter for them to do so. (This logic comes from someone who is eligible to march DCI, but I can not justify giving up my entire summer for corps)

  21. The instrumentation was that of a normal wind ensemble, and yes it was an outside concert.
  22. I know this post is about a different musical medium, but there were electronic issues, so it fits. Last night I went attempted to go to a local town band concert. However, I could not make it past the 2nd song because of amp & electronic issues. They had some very bad electronic issues. First off, French horns and trombones were overpowering the rest of the band. Second, percussion sounded cheap and tinny. These two issues were all caused by bad mic placement. Now my big problem is: Why were they miking themselves in the first place? I play in a different town band in a similar venue, yet we don't need mics, despite the fact that we are smaller. As I was heading to my car, I thought, hey, maybe it will sound better farther away. I was sorely mistaken. I happen to know the band director, and this was the first year he miked his band. I wanted to ask him if he got the idea from seeing DCI, but I could not, because I physically could not stand the lack of musicality the electronics were causing. If this was a bleed from DCI/BOA, I hope someone tells the director that it did not work. /rant.
