  1. I don't see SCVC or BDB making the jump anytime soon, or at all. Oregon Crusaders are competitive enough right now to jump WC, but I say it'll probably be a few years until they do so. I have no idea what finances they have, or will I pretend to know, but I think it's smart to take things slow. Music City has the number of kids, and with a few more years and more experience, they might be ready, but not yet. Also: I could see Genesis moving up in the near future. They are a small corps, but they perform well. Give them a chance and check them out. They have the old Academy look, and they sound like Div. 2 Academy as well.
  2. There is a clip on the Tube that shows a clip of them playing, maybe it's show music? Who knows how the DCI Gods will place corps this year, but I'm sure they'll be entertaining as always. Loved their Black Swan show last year.
  3. 1. Blue Devils. They're just too good. 2. Cavaliers. Entertaining show. Good visual. Glad to see brass is back. 3. Bluecoats. Another entertaining show, they really personified like how the future would be. Enjoyed it a lot. Should have been a little closer to Cavies, maybe like 5 or 6 tenths behind? Something like that. 4. Cadets. The more I saw it, the more I enjoyed it. Visual demand like crazy. 5. Crown. Still a magnificent brass sound, a little step down from 2009, but they still sounded marvelous. 6. Blue Stars. I enjoyed this show a ton. Good brass book, and those mellos were insane. 7. Phantom. Beautiful. Didn't like the drill. But beautiful sound. 8. SCV Not very accessible music, but man the demand was ridiculous. 9. Boston. Concept didn't really go for me, but the music was awesome. 10. Blue Knights. Great music selections. Farandole was tight. 11. Madison. Sounded like easy musical arrangements, but the crowd liked it. Drill was kinda eh too. But well performed. 12. Glassmen. Didn't like the show when I saw it, but when I listen to it, I enjoy it. 13. Academy. Good brass, but concept and guard held them back. 14. Colts. Full of GE. Not a huge fan of the music, and felt they could have gave more. Clean though. What a comeback from late June/ early July though. 15. Troopers. I liked this show better than 09, and felt it was performed better too. Just other corps stepped up ahead of them. 16. Spirit. Decent brass. Visual was okay, but just didn't give me the knock out punch. 17. Crossmen. Dirty visually. But still in semis because they achieved more than everyone below them. 18. Pacific Crest. Barely gets the nod over Teal Sound because of their visual package. 19. Teal Sound. Very good brass for such a smaller corps. Great hope for next year. 20. Mandarins. This show wasn't that great visually (not a big fan of Myron's drill), but the music was arranged well, and the vocal stuff was cool and didn't take away from the brass. 21. Cascades. This show I felt was underscored. Brass was powerful for what numbers it had, and I liked the pit. 22. Jersey Surf. Good arrangements, just not a strong enough brassline. 23. Pioneer. I like listening to them on the cd, but visual just didn't cut it for me.
  4. Crossmen announced on their Facebook page that their ballad would be Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"
  5. There won't be one solution to the money issue. There will have to be multiple fronts to continue financing the activity ie. Corporate Sponsorships. (Tax deductible?) Trying to stay regional for as long as possible. (Less gas.) Higher tour fees (Someone had to say it. I know it's unpopular, and I know personally how hard it is for kids to fund it themselves. But when push comes to shove, the organization needs oil for the machine) Winning the lottery (we can dream, right? )
  6. I voted for Teal Sound. According to the videos, they have a ton of brass players, which could be a deciding factor distancing themselves from corps around them. Also, the show sounds pretty cool, and I'm exciting to see what they do this year.
  7. My "random" mp3 player always seems to play "Silver Lining" by Cascades. I have no connection to the corps, yet I can't find the heart to not listen to the whole show, every time it comes up, usually once every-other day. I enjoy the show a ton, and the beginning synth solo of "Tomorrow" from Annie is beautiful, and then the tone shifts, and you just have to listen to the rest of the show. It's pretty awesome. It's proof that there is so much talent in ALL our corps...and I can't wait for prelims this year to show off the open class corps to the "world class" crowd. Goodluck to all.
  8. Definitely Academy . I mean, did you see their guard this year?!?!
  9. I'm going by one by one and watching them all. Saw this, and had to mention. At BAC, some horn player tosses his instrument up in air off the chair, at 49 seconds. Totally scared the **** right out of me!
  10. Juliet (edit) Sounds interesting. Who knows what they'll do with it. Best of luck!
  11. Nice thoughts about all corps, because all the corps deserve some love Blue Devils: Man, we're they clean! Also, last few mins of the show were absolutely ridiculous. Their perfomance level, IMHO, forces other corps to attempt to step up to their level of showmanship. Which is good for all. Cavies: What an exciting show! The middle of their show I can't tell you how many times I have rewatched that. Just loud, powerful brass, which has definitely improved over the last few years. Trumpet trio was sick. Bluecoats: Great concept. Made me rethink about the future, and really tore down boundaries of what can be done in a drum corps show. Cool body movements, and other small GE things that really took me in as a viewer. Brass was very very good also. Crown: Everyone has said it, but it needs to be said again. That brass line.... unworldly. Never heard a Crown brass line in a long time. What a gas. Cadets: I actually was a fan of Little Jeffery. Great job. Music was good, and as always, a very loud hornline. Visual was, like most Cadets shows, very very good. Love watching their shows. Phantom: Beautiful. Only word to describe the show. No gimmicks. Just all about beautiful drill, and beautiful music. Love the flugelhorn player. Such a beautiful sound, and he was money every time I heard him. Vanguard: What a change from 2009 to 2010. Not a bad change. Just different. They took a very difficult, dirty, and (unfinished) product in June that I wondered how they could salvage a show, and turned that into a very well executed show. Loved the backwards running through time thing in the beginning. Very exposed brass, and they stepped up. Blue Stars: A fan favorite. Easily accessible, with recognizable music. But, that didn't make it seemed watered down. It was actually a very great brass line. Loved their sound. Their ballad was wonderful. Good changes at the end of the season to make the final Houdini trick to be more in the spotlight, I missed it earlier in the season. Boston: Great show. Their brass was better than I expected them to be. Cool visual moments. One of their better shows in recent years. Madison: Early season, I was hating on Madison. Just thought they were being overhyped, thought they were the flavor of the week. Man, was I wrong. Great, entertaining show. No concept needed, only concept was that Madison was back. Enjoyable show. Blue Knights: Great move to do more recognizable music. I am not usually a fan of their shows, but they made a fan out of me. Farandole was powerful. Great job. Glassmen: Interesting concept. Visually, it had a TON of allusions to prayer/deity. Really cool, and you have to see it a few times to catch everything. Pretty clean too. Colts: Liked the concept. Very clean show for a nonfinalist. They are knocking on finals door. Academy: What a brassline. This corps is going to be a finalist. Not if, but when they choose to. Troopers: Bon Jovi music actually worked for me, was skeptical when they announced it, but it works. Great GE moments, like the opening ripple, and the ending with the guard girl/DM was cute. Spirit: Concept was cool. Brass was much improved over 2009. Crossmen: I enjoyed the music. I liked how they used the concept of "Full Circle" in their drill. Pacific Crest: Good hornline. Arguably could have made semis. Next year could be their year. Mandarins: I liked the compasses they used in their show, and their props were cool. Hornline was very good considering the numbers of brass. Teal Sound: Welcome to World Class! My most watched show from the 18+ placing corps. Guitar actually worked for me, and the prog rock music was way more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Big surprise, in my eyes. They showed that you can use non-typical music in drum corps. Jersey Surf: Enjoyable show. Loved the patriotic stuff. Some cool props, and was good. Cascades: Silver Lining was cool. I like what the drill designer did. Pioneer: Much better brass than I expected. Good music selection.
  12. That sucks for all the members that worked hard this summer, just to have part of their performance cut off the dvd. Didn't the article mention part of Trooper's 2009 performance was edited because of the same thing? That's killer.
