They sure were. They were Div 3, then 2, the back into open class.
I marched Whitewater in '72 (and '73). Always felt they were short changed that first year. Thought they were the best.

Loved that Phantom "Eyes Wide Shut" show.

Just wrapping my head around the notion that these beautiful young people are now in their late '60s and early '70s, I can't help but wonder whether their grandchildren are experiencing this level of passion and dedication about any activity, musical or otherwise.
Old enough to refer to it as "Exit", not "Ballad".

I knew you'd be on top of this.

I wonder if DCI really ran into an issue with this if they could just move temporarily to Moravian University in Bethlehem (right next to Allentown, PA) and use BASD field. It's a fairly good size stadium. You still have the track, but so does Allentown. BASD has decent bleachers. You are in a nice neighborhood where people might either hate it or love it. Plenty of fields around for warm-ups.
Bethlehem hosts Musikfest on the Moravian campus in the first 10 days of August. This year 3rd to the 13th.

Was wondering who the corps were 1973. Was there with Blue Stars.

Complete shows.
With "Finalists" and "potential Finalists".
And sleep in our own beds.
A bunch of parades, too. To pay the bills.
Probably would have had a competition last weekend.
Muchachos, Garfield, Blessed Sacrament, Blue Rock, St. Rita's, CMCC, etc.

Wasn't aware it was official. Until then, nobody needs to reach for a hammer and nails.
Now, the chance of France winning the WC is very slim.
It's a game now!

Hi Tim!
Hey, Tee. A very Merry Christmas to you and Jim.
And that OSU three against Rutgers was out of bounds. I'm not paying you that beer!

Had already decided, before all this cheerful news, that it would be Metallica instead of Allentown.

A perfect night of D&B. Well done all.

'72 Prelims. Full or short programs? 51 years is a long time.

Raleigh theater had the sound turned up. Didn't have to complain like I had to do several times in Houston. Missed BK due to a t-storm between the theater and the satellite. Even though we have Flo, the theater is worth it. Theater was probably less than 50% full and no High Schoolers, which surprised me. Houston BLL would be about 50% students.
Rockaway,NJ was about 10-15% and mostly "Target Age Group".

In the 70’s, we rehearsed for three hours an evening in the summer three or four days a week with weekend shows. They have a lot more rehearsal time now. Truth be told, I’d never do drum corps now. I had an outside life in summer besides drum corps. We had a week off mid season so I could hang with my normal friends. No way would I devote my entire summer to this. Sorry, but I just wouldn’t.
We were mostly hobby players who accomplished pretty much considering we had limited rehearsal time and a short trip at the end of the season.
Standrews were my "normal" friends. Our nights off were spent together at the Chapel. Year round.

A true tribute to Gus Wilkie, our horn instructor, and all the sopranos who worked so hard all winter to perfect this technique! As remarkable, like most of the corps in that era, the vast majority never played an instrument before joining the corps!
Don't forget "Bix". The driving force behind that line.

I had forgotten about this till a friend of mine reminded me about this. One more thing about George in 1972 we were on tour and our Drum instructor had to leave us. This was the week of the first DCI championships we rolled into White Water with no one to work with the drum line George came up to them while they were working on the show and asked where is your instructor the kids told him that he had to go home. So George stepped right in and worked with them. We made finals by .1 tenth and were the first corps to ever compete in DCI Finals. Was it the help that George gave us? Or could the kids in the line have cleaned up the tenths needed to make finals? I don’t know but George sure didn’t hurt us.
Strange afternoon, Leo. None of us knew who he was. Just thought he was looking for a job. But we let him run us through our paces. Later we found out who he was. So we had George Tuthill for an afternoon at UWW in '72, you had Sandra Opie for one in '73.
Legal action being considered.

The next big lawsuit in the activity. Have received no licensing fees. No NIL money. Infringement to say the least.
