  1. "Rhapsody in Blue" has been used by united for at least the last 16 years, i'm unsure how many more. i was hired by united in 1989, and it's always been the music for our ads. the arrangement currently being used is produced and arranged by trivers/myers music, el segundo, ca. their website is www.triversmyersmusic.com hope this helps! Ü jan united airlines flight attendant married to VKGarry....(well, he mentioned it first!)
  2. can't wait to see them. stuart took a ton of pics of her, they were great! she giggled so much that day. and now, the sad fact is i'm doomed. she's been drumming for the last two days.....why? why me, why me? Ü jan
  3. and a HUGE shout-out to Chris for escorting the ReneBaby through the streets of San Francisco so mommy and daddy could both march in their sections this year! garry and i had a great time. and another BIG, BIG shout out to the Peterson family for hosting us. thank you, thank you, thank you! now, let's hope we get our schedules cleared for kingsmen...... Ü jan p.s. hey, ponzo...any messages for nanci? heheheheheh!
  4. she's 22 pounds right now, not a good idea for you to be hauling that much around the parade route! i'm going to talk to a friend of ours and see if we can borrow the "two-seater" wagon. one seat faces front, one back, and both have seat belts! if you prefer, we can bring the sling. we haven't used a baby bjorn for so long we got rid of it! olivia likes her sling, especially when daddy carries her...... just realized i'm writing as garry again......ugh! Ü jan
  5. and she looked so cute in them. i wish they still fit! she's also outgrown two pairs of vans (checkerboard!) and a pair of hot pink chuck taylors. she's on her latest pair of cons, and has a pair of chucks, pink with red hearts, waiting in the wings. dad's a cali boy, afterall.....and mom loves shoe shopping! Ü jan
  6. i have to get the "rock star" t-shirt! too cute. i'll keep looking around for black. she'll probably be in 18 month sizes by then, and hopefully it will be easier to find dark clothes. i know zutano makes solid black pants, and they wear great. btw, let me know which one of you is having a girl. we've got a TON of clothes (some she outgrew before she wore them!) that are in great shape. i can bring some of them up with us. the only things that are definitely off limits are the cheap trick onesie and the cbgb onesie. these go to my gal mikky, who is getting hitched in a rock and roll wedding this fall! 7. been there, done that....well, at least garry has. see the pics from st. patty's day. she's now a bit big to carry the entire parade. we will probably have a wagon for her, or at least the stroller. and we have kanika to thank for making it possible for us to march. *HUGS* now, how do i explain this? i have been practicing (gots to keep those rifle chops up to speed!) and i biffed myself right across my right cheekbone the other night. thought i was going to scream, it hurt so bad. we thought it might have resulted in a mild concussion for a day or two, but all is well now. last night i was getting olivia ready for bed. she decided she didn't want to go to sleep right away, so we were having a snuggle. she sits up and starts playing with one of the cats on our bed. all of a sudden #BAM#! she falls back against my left cheekbone. bit my tongue, no screaming, have baby on my chest. ugh, did it hurt. i just took my makeup off for the day, and looked in the mirror. i have TWO bruises that make me look like i've gone 5 rounds with evander holyfield! anyone who knows me from my days in knights should get a good laugh out of this. why do these things always happen to me? i'm going to get some funny looks tomorrow on the plane....... 8. i consider myself a bit of an anomaly. i'm a guard person, who started out as a horn person, married to a percussionist. i do watch the guard, but i tend to focus a great deal on the hornline, the arrangements, and musicianship. i also spend a great deal of time watching the entire drill, not just the guard's drill, as some of my friends admit to. i've learned quite a bit in the last 4+ years about percussion, and i'm still learning. time will only tell what my daughter will decide to be...... 9. my employer has a no visible tattoo policy, for my job group only. personally, i can see why. but ethically it's discriminatory, as it only applies to a mainly female work force (i'm a flight attendant). that being said, i have no problem complying with the policy. i have two tattoos, one on the back of my right ankle, one on the top of my left foot, neither corps related. i could choose to wear pants and loafers, but i'm a girlie girl. i wear a dress and heels. no one has ever seen my tatts at work. when i was hired i knew what the policy was. i chose to express myself with body art, but i agreed to certain terms when i was hired. 'nuff said. Ü jan
  10. i've always wished someone would put spanish caravan on a field...... Ü jan
  11. well, as colleges are on a three + day holiday, so are high schools, i guess that is part of the reason corps have had this audition schedule for 30 or so years. they had the same schedule when i was marching, back in the "stone ages," that was 23 years ago. they can get a lot more accomplished with that extra day. i wish i had a chance to catch up with the young man i met on my flight from orlando to chicago this past friday. he came on the plane, i saw the mellophone case and asked, "rockford, madison or rosemont?"....he just had a glazed look and said, "uh, phantom." i wished him luck, asked him to pass on some holiday greetings to a few folks back in bedrock for me. he was amazed. asked a few questions, gave him the answers i could, he was excited. hope he does a good job..... 12. i believe '81 was the first year that you could pick up equipment without incurring an additional penalty. you still got the tick for the drop, but you could pick it up. in '82 you didn't get the penalty at all. i may be wrong, but i do remember a recent viewing of some old shows from '81 and there were more drops than i remember, and almost every one of them was picked up by the guard member. oh, to have the tick system back.... Ü jan
  13. ya had to go and mention dan moore, didn't ya? i remember there was a week (or a month, or maybe it just SEEMED like a month!) that dan and walt (where are you walt?) spoke in nothing but puns. having to drive to rehearsals with walt, and marching about half my show in the vicinity of dan, it was moore (pardon the pun!) than i could take! 15. i hear from pete (now pedro) on a semi-regular basis. just had an email from him the other day....actually several! he was letting me know (heheheheh!) that madison was putting an alumni corps together to perform at dci 2006. yep, i know pete. he's in la la land, working on films, and teaching guards. many guards. i'm hoping we can hook up again some time in the future when hubby and i are out in cali visiting friends and family. he surprised me at glendora in 2003 by just strolling up to me after we finished our performance (socal dream) and saying hi. i just about dropped right there. wearing the ole madison jacket and all. he hasn't changed a bit! i hoped i did him proud, he was one of my two first guard instructors. the other was jeff fiedler. i've come a long way since then! as for the very kind comments about knights '82. thank you. we worked out butts off in that corps. i'm sure all the '82-ers here will remember "the hill", and it's poor lighting, cause of my, um....injuries prior to first tour. yep, it was a bar fight, alright! :sshh: Ü jan
  16. gotta agree with that first pick, especially '82....and avant garde, and memphis...some of the best associate corps ever listed here. Ü jan
  17. *sigh* you'd never know by this post that I'M the argumentative one in the family.... Ü jan
  18. gotta back up the hubby on this one. we've been to plenty of shows, exhibits, a few museums and such here in vegas. heck, my yoga classes are held in an art gallery. if you believe las vegas is without culture, you're buying into some prepackaged vision of what las vegas isn't. there's plenty of culture around here! las vegas is much more than the strip. i've lived here for going on 9 years, and i don't gamble or drink. i'm hardly ever in a casino. i'd rather go hiking at red rock or valley of fire than sit in a smoke filled casino playing blackjack. but hey, if you want to believe what the movies sell you..... Ü jan
  19. um, it's a joke that's been going around for years.....at least it was around in '83 when i marched regiment..... Ü jan
  20. jeff was a baritone player, drum major and then did a season in the winter guard.... Ü jan
  21. *sigh*....again, neil peart marched in phantom.....hehehehehehe.... Ü jan ya knew someone had to say it.....
  22. not junior corps, but renegades mardi gras beads....especially when given to my baby girl, the youngest renegade ever...... thanks, rich! Ü jan
