  1. Being born and raised in Asbury Park, NJ. I would say No to him having marched in Drum Corps. He was raised in Freehold, NJ. The nearest JR Drum Corps within a 20 miles or so to Freehold, (where he was raised) and which never had a Drum Corps, would have been: "Asbury Park Hurricanes", "Neptune Shoreliners", "Keyport Jersey Cyclones" (all of which I marched with), "Union Beach Firesiders", "Middletown Coppertones", "St.Joe's Toms River Modernairs", "Brick Twsp. Townsmen", "Eatontown Royales", and maybe one more. He ("Bruce") became famous by playing the Local Bar's. The most famous being the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. (heck I remember seeing him for free if you got to the bar before the $1.00 "Cover charge" kicked in at 7PM) Met him once. I was a Cop in the Traffic Div. We had to keep people, and cars away from "Palace Amusements" during an outdoor Photo Shoot for some Photo's for an Album Cover. He was NOT a very nice person. Typical "How Great I am Type". I also wrote for "Drum Corps News" and "Eastern Review" a Drum Corps Magazine. Pretty sure I would have heard about him being in a Drum Corps.
  2. Good Luck Reilly!!! I got to march with you in the Savannah, GA St Patrick's Day Parade. You ALL were so good to me and my wife. Truly a High Lite of my Drum Corps life. So I Recommend, if any of you out there. Give them a try. A good time with good people.
  3. Larry: You can't go wrong there. Florida Brass are a Great Group of People. Marched there a few years before I moved back North. I think many were pleased to see them in Annapolis. Their first, Out of State trip. Made up of Many Big Name Corps Alumni people from all over the North East and Midwest. Good Luck to You.
  4. Three other Navy guy's and I drove from Pensacola, FL (Northwest Florida) to Garfield, NJ over the week end for the Garfield Invitational once. Left Friday morning, Show Sat. Night, Left show for trip back. (OOOPS Sorry to intrude! But, I could not resist one of my behind the scene's things of "Drum Corps Life" of over 47 years active.)
  5. YES. I marched in Florida. I like the White. (could add some Gold)
  6. SoCal Kingsmen Garfield Cadets Kilties Old Troopers NEW Boston Crusaders Both OLD St. Andrews and the Bananna coats Chicago Cavaliers any year Old Reading Buc's (Baby blues and Black) 27th Lancers Old San Francisco Renegades St Rocco's Cadets, Brooklyn, NY Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights
  7. I am so Happy to read this. You are a small Corps that always seem to get things RIGHT. The way you do your Shows with a small Corps that BOTH the Judges and the "Fans in the Stands" enjoy your shows and you score well.. Making the most of what you have Both Visually and with Music you play. Good Luck to you. Have a Great Time. I am sure You will represent us well!
  8. Another sad story. I only got to see them 4 or 5 times. BUT, they alway's put on a very good show. Sorry to see this. The many fine JR and Senior Corps they represented combined. That gave us all a good look at how good the Connecticut Corps were, AND brought back some Fine Memories them. " Thanks' For The Memories " !!!
  9. I know that an Alumni type Corps I was with, had a practise at a High School we normaly did Not use. I was surprised when a bunch of the local kids showed up. Liked what they saw. Some even sat in and played a little.
  10. I also liked Rutgers Stadium. Never saw a Drum Corps Show there. But did see a Band Show once. Would make a Great place for Reiginal Drum Corps show, or one of those limited Special shows.
  11. Some Questions! 1 -- With 4 shows on Aug 6th: Won't the Quality of each will be very limited. 2 -- Wildwood, NJ - IS the FIRST show again thid year !!! 3 -- Which show will be the, Big, almost like a Regional one? 4 -- Will the Racine show be a Jr/All age show?
  12. If you want to see How Comody can can be done with Class. Go To You Tube. Punch in Velvet Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. Watch as Thousands of people in the Stands go crazy. Take special noye as A Great White Eats the Opera singer at one WELL DONE
  13. Thank You Kidsgrove Scouts for Coming to the USA again. I can only hope one day a U.S. Corps can make it over to your Country soon.
  14. Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday's to all. No matter what way you Believe. I hope everyone, all our members have the Best at this time of Year.
  15. Just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to ALL.
  16. You see because 27th was doing the Winter Olympics' in Lake Placid, NY. They (Olympic committee) sent the French Ice Skating judge to DCI for training. Not sure Who was training Who! But really during that era of Drum and Bugle Corps (2 years before - 2years after that Contest) I am a biased 27th fan. But very much liked: Muchacho's - Cavies - Phantom - SCV.
  17. " Those were the day's my friend. We thought they would NEVER END. " A lot of them I remember. Even though they may be small or just mainly, Local area. Not in National Championship Contention. Which Circuit were the New Bedford Whaler's in?
  18. Wow! I saw something today that made me feel Very OLD. The Santa Clara Vanguard will be using a BIG 50 in 2017 for their 50th Anniversary logo. Thing is I saw them once in 1967. It was at the San Leandro, Calif. Royalairs home show. I was in the Navy at the time in Alameda (San Francisco). I also got to meet up with a High School Pen Pal that was with the Pineole Princemen. (SC Vanguards FIRST year.)
  19. Yes Ray, I do remember that. Forgot about the SCV & Alumni Corps. AND I saw this TODAY, on google: ( " SC Vanguard to be in 2017 Rose Parade. " ) " A DCI drum and bugle corps is a rare treat for Rose Parade viewers, because corps typically perform only during the summer months. Santa Clara Vanguard made one previous appearance in the prestigious parade (2004). Other corps to appear include the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps of Casper, Wyoming, in 1985, and the 1st Canadian Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps (also known as the Edmonton Strutters) of Edmonton, Alberta, in 1982. "
  20. How great it is too hear these back, behind the scene's things. How many of us were in the same place at the same time. Never met. AND now, Here we are after all these YEARS talking to each other about things. Again Thank you all for taking Part !!!
  21. Hamms Indians! Yes, ONE of, if not the ONLY Active, Competing, Drum and Bugle Corps to March in the " ROSE BOWL " Parade. ( and I thought marching in "Orange Bowl" Parade with Neptune Shoreliners was Big. But a lot of Drum & Bugle Corps did Orange Bowl parade. Heck, St. Ignatis(sp) Girls from Long Island was just ahead of us that year)
  22. Now in trying to keep this on track, and still getting these Outstanding posts. In 1976. My First show with the NYC Skyliners. We began the season on Sunday night, May 30th in New Brunswick, NJ. a show sponsored by the Saints Jr. Corps. We had a bad night. Some would say awful. 1 - Cab's --------- 76.5 2 - Y. Rebel's --- 70.8 3 - Hurk's -------- 70.0 4 - Buc's --------- 68.550 5 - NYC Sky ---- 68,5 (This is also the Night I was Initiated into Sky.) The the next night on Monday, May 31st in Teaneck, NJ, We did better. 1 - Cab's ----------- 82.0 2 - Sun ------------- 80.5 3 - NYC Sky ------ 78.7 4 - Matadors ------ 68.2 5 - Westshor ------ 53.2
  23. Yes, my post was about " The Preview " (St. Patricks Contest) but the ones about " The Dream " (St. Vincent's contest) could still fit in here. In that some brought back a memory of His Corps Love and a place. Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, was a Special Place. Could have 3 or 4 NATIONAL type shows a year. With crowds of over 20, 000 at ALL in the same year. The Sight's, The Sounds, and yes, The Smell's. UN-FORGETABLE. As either a Competing Corps or a " Fan in The Stands ". In this case it was important that "The Preview" was in MAY. The NJ States were in early June. That was going to be our First show for us, in our First year on the Field. It was felt that the trip was aTraining class for us. Then "Thr Dream" in August. How lucky we were here in New Jersey to have the Contest's
