  2. I didn't realize I was just doing something similar to this... But I only used 2010-2017's previous year placement data to make predictions based on that. It lends interesting results towards the top, and sort of tame predictions in the 7-12 placings. Here's the placements those 8 years came up with on average: Santa Clara Vanguard Blue Devils Bluecoats The Cavaliers Carolina Crown Boston Crusaders The Cadets Phantom Regiment Blue Knights Blue Stars Likely Crossmen (5x 11th place was in finals the previous year) Likely Madison (5x 12th place was in finals the previous year) Other corps that made appearances in finals with this trend analysis: Colts 2x, Troopers 2x, SCVC 1x, Academy 1x, Mandarins 1x

  6. Is the +2 points for the scores only if you have the placement correct?

  9. Just view it as a way to support the corps. All corps are in need of money... Some donate without wanting something in return, others may need to have a slight incentive to give something as little as $5. And I really like the new uniform. Definitely more to it than meets the eye, and I would also love to see it from the back and a more straight-on view as well. I think there are more nods to the past than what some may see.
  10. Ah, well I'm not sure where to find that then. Thats the most in-depth history of drum corps scores that I know of.
  11. Santa Clara Vanguard 1999 Phantom Regiment 2007 Carolina Crown 2015 Just the list I picked today... Impossible to limit it to three without thinking of so many others I would love to listen to any other day.
  12. I am very interested to hear how Will Pitts arranges for Phantom next year. I haven't been very impressed with any of the music arranging in the past few years at Phantom, and some fresh ideas could be just what the doctor called for. Looking forward to seeing this develop!
  13. So I haven't seen SCV or heard them at all this year. I seriously thought it might be some sort of effect they added and was getting really annoyed. Glad it will not be that way live!
  14. What I think will happen: 1. The Cadets - 96.6 2. Carolina Crown - 96.45 3. Blue Devils - 96.4 4. Bluecoats - 96.1 5. Santa Clara Vanguard - 94.7 6. Blue Knights - 91.8 7. 16. It actually is. Because they were playing right before you notice they aren't there. It's an illusion of sound, something I have never experienced before in drum corps, and I liked it. Being there live makes it a completely different experience than if you saw it in the theater.
  17. Wow what a night! Great start to the 2015 season for sure. Madison - Well the brass plays loud. Almost everything they play is loud. It sounds fine, but I would have liked to hear them play more in the piano range and have a few softer moments in the show. Of course it is part of the design for it to be showy, but there's always time to relax in the dynamic department. I'm not sold on the show, but it is the first show of the year.. Blue Stars - You can tell Richard Saucedo works with this corps, because they don't open up on the volume this early on, but keep it down to build tone. This show is definitely one that will take all summer to develop, very similar to how I felt about their show last year. So many kinks to work out and figuring out ways to draw the focus where it needs to be. But they certainly have the end in mind, and are in no hurry to max out the show just yet. Looking forward to see this show develop. Carolina Crown - I absolutely love the music in this show. Not all Bb major chords in this show. In fact, I didn't even notice any at all(until maybe the very end, but I'd have to listen again). Very dark, and I love dark, dissonant chords. I saw the Youtube video of them and this show is definitely a "must see in person" show. I was not impressed at all online, but in person it was a completely different experience. Brass is much improved over last year, and the show carries itself way better than last year. However, I don't know how much they can improve in the show besides the ending without changing a lot in it. Only time will tell. The Cavaliers - I was really looking forward to this show, especially after last year's brass being miles ahead of 2013's brassline. And their brass was definitely the best part of their corps tonight. Solid first half of the show all around, and I was really hoping it would go somewhere interesting. But... I have no idea what they were trying to do in the latter portion of the show. I'm not sure if I missed something, but I just kept waiting for something big to happen, and nothing ever did. Again, first show, yada yada yada... But still, I lost interest in the show about halfway through, and that was disappointing. I hope next time I see them I see something differently or they add something I was looking for, because I wanted to see them fighting with corps above them this year. The Cadets - Wow, the music is awesome in this show. They definitely know what they are doing in this show musically. Visually it was still great, many nice moments. Their high brass is very refined, almost as good as Crown's this year. The horn feature was pretty cool - it added a sound I'm not used to hearing, which was nice. Not much to complain about here - can't wait to see them again! Bluecoats - Must see in person. If you don't, you won't even begin to comprehend half of what is actually happening on the field. This show is extremely effect-driven, with so many moments of "Was that a trumpet playing, or was it the speaker". Or moments where the sound is traveling across the field, and morphs into something you wouldn't imagine... It's just a total mind/ear bending show that you finish watching and you're still wondering what you just heard. In a good way. After seeing all of the corps live tonight... It is very difficult to say where placings will be down the road, but I will give my opinion on which corps have a show that will take them far. In order of which corps I think can go the farthest with their shows this summer: Blue Stars Bluecoats The Cadets The Cavaliers Carolina Crown Madison Scouts Mind you, this isn't placements, but the Blue Stars and Bluecoats have so much depth in their shows and room to make huge strides.
  18. Just for fun: 1. The Cadets - 72.35 2. Bluecoats - 72.2 3. Carolina Crown - 71.05 4. The Cavaliers - 70.15 5. Blue Stars - 68.8 6. Madison Scouts - 64.65 Can't wait for the show!
  19. Halftime at a Colts game with college band a few years back. Since they open the roof more for sporting events, I'm sure there's a lot of people who have had their share of experiences with the roof open.
  20. I've performed in LOS with the roof open before. It really didn't change much from a performer's perspective. I'm not sure how it changed the audience's ability to hear everything, but I do know it made it warmer due to the obvious. I'm guessing there won't even be a black curtain, meaning when the roof is closed it will be much boomier than we have experienced. Excited to see the corps perform regardless of the roof, curtain, temperature, etc.
