  1. 1. Carolina Crown - 74.7 2. The Cadets - 72.3 3. The Cavaliers - 70.6 4. Phantom Regiment - 70.2 5. Troopers - 63.1
  2. The video was just a terrible angle to see anything except a general idea of where the corps is on the field, and how the props are used. The best part was just hearing the music, so anyone who didn't see it didn't miss out on too much. All I can say is that I cannot wait to see this show live!!
  3. I'll make three predictions: Early Season (hard to set a specific show since they don't all meet up for a while into tour): 1. Carolina Crown 2. Blue Devils 3. The Cadets 4. Santa Clara Vanguard 5. Bluecoats 6. Phantom Regiment 7. The Cavaliers 8. Madison Scouts 9. Boston Crusaders 10. Blue Knights 11. Blue Stars 12. Spirit of Atlanta Atlanta Regional: 1. Blue Devils 2. The Cadets 3. Carolina Crown 4. Bluecoats 5. Santa Clara Vanguard 6. The Cavaliers 7. Boston Crusaders 8. Phantom Regiment 9. Madison Scouts 10. Blue Stars 11. Blue Knights 12. Spirit of Atlanta Finals: 1. Blue Devils 2. Bluecoats 3. Carolina Crown 4. The Cadets 5. Santa Clara Vanguard 6. Boston Crusaders 7. The Cavaliers 8. Madison Scouts 9. Blue Stars 10. Phantom Regiment 11. Spirit of Atlanta 12. Blue Knights But in all honesty... who knows. So many awesome productions this year that I just can't wait to see them all!
  4. Sorry to see no one else is competing, I was really looking forward to seeing more shows this summer.
  5. I did not think I would like Boston's uniforms too much from a distance because of the fade effect that was mentioned, but I actually like them. From a distance they are very dark, and the blood-red makes them seem menacing. I don't mind that the logo is not able to be seen very well from afar, and they would not have designed it that way if they wanted you to clearly see each logo from the stands. They're winning the new uniform contest in my opinion - they did not change too much, and the design is not overly busy (especially from a distance).
  6. Questioning Saucedo on his arranging abilities. That made me chuckle. Good luck to the Blue Stars this year. I'm sure the music will sound fantastic, and I cannot wait to see it live!
  7. 1. Blue Devils 2. Carolina Crown 3. The Cadets 4. Santa Clara Vanguard 5. Bluecoats 6. Boston Crusaders 7. Phantom Regiment 8. The Cavaliers 9. Madison Scouts 10. Blue Stars 11. Blue Knights 12. Troopers 13. Pacific Crest (very close)
  8. Sorry, yeah I meant 3rd for the Bluecoats in 2010. And it would be interesting to see a corps make a skyrocket to 1st out of nowhere, sort of like: 12, 8, 4, 2, 1, or something like that... It's not impossible, but the corps would need all of the right ingredients each year to make it happen. That would be very fun to witness!!
  9. Well let's look at who has not won yet... In order of this year's placement: Bluecoats Boston Crusaders Blue Knights Spirit of Atlanta Blue Stars Troopers Crossmen Colts Pacific Crest Oregon Crusaders Mandarins The Academy Jersey Surf Cascades Pioneer I did not include any Open Class corps, but someday one of those corps could be the first new champion... Who knows. But the very obvious choice is the Bluecoats to be the next new champion, since they have gotten as close as 3rd a mere 3 years ago. If the Bluecoats are the next new champion, I could see it happening within the next 3-4 years (2014-2017) The closest Boston has gotten is 5th in 2000 and 2002, and more recently they have hovered around 7-9. They would need to make some changes for the better with staff and design in order to push into the next level of competition. If Boston were next I believe it wouldn't happen for another 8-10 years (2021-2023) Spirit of Atlanta was in their prime in the late 70s and 80s, and recently has been 11-17. I do not see Spirit making any strides to try to be more competitive, and if they were to get a championship, it wouldn't be for a long while (2025-2027) The Blue Stars almost had a championship back in 1972, but the Anaheim Kingsmen slipped in and took the first DCI title. The Blue Stars have now only come back to Division I / World Class competition since 2006, and they made huge progress between 2007-2008, and then the design stayed consistent through 2010. Recently they fell out of finals, but managed to claw their way back in the year after they fell. That does not happen very often, which shows that this corps isn't even close to being done with competing in the top 12. They made huge changes in staff between 2012 and 2013, especially percussion, and I see them making a move upward over the next few years, possibly top 7 within 3 years, and after that it would take 4-6 more years to be a serious contender for a championship. So if the Blue Stars were to win DCI, I would see it happening around 2020-2022. The Troopers are obviously making changes to the way they run things, and who knows how it will end up over the next 4 years (since DVD seems to be doing a 5 year plan). I would guess 4 years from now we could see the Troopers in the top 8, and from there I'm not sure we would see them rise any further. IMO if they were to push the envelope and win DCI, it would happen around 2023-2025. The Crossmen need to make design changes, particularly drill design, before they will break back into the top 12. It is hard to say what will happen to the Crossmen after this year. I do not know much about the organization's current state, but they could get back into the top 12 within 3-5 years, but with the top 12 becoming increasingly more difficult to break into, it could take some time before we see the Crossmen back in finals again. If they made some changes for the better, and from there keep making strong choices in design, I would see them being in contender for a championship around 2027-2030. I really cannot say that I know everything about DCI, but it is fun to make long-term predictions like these, and see them be totally wrong. But that's the fun of it, since being totally wrong and having a new champion sooner than predicted is an awesome thing to see happen in DCI. Summary: Bluecoats - 2014-2017 Blue Stars - 2020-2022 Boston Crusaders - 2021-2023 Troopers - 2023-2025 Spirit of Atlanta - 2025-2027 Crossmen - 2027-2030 (May or may not continue looking at other corps and making predictions for them later) (Wow it is weird typing those years out...)
  10. www.fromthepressbox.com This site has tons of recaps on it, and I absolutely love using it. There are instances where corps placements are switched for a little show, but those instances are few and far between.
  11. Agreed, both Troopers and the Blue Stars got great draws for tonight. I hope they both take full advantage of these performance spots and do their best! It's going to be fun watching the results come in for sure tonight. Very anxious!

  13. Very excited to see how this show unfolds, especially with a full panel (FINALLY!!!). So glad we do not have to see the measly 5 (or 4 when a judge doesn't show up...) judge panels anymore this season. Will anyone be at the show to provide some thoughts?

  15. There is a color guard score in the recap. Read my entire post and then look at the recap again. The scores given for the color guard are an average of the other 4 captions judged. Or an easier way to tell is to look at the color guard scores, and compare those to the overall scores each corps received. Strange judging night overall, but obviously the Troopers had a great night! This battle for the 9-12 spots in finals is going to be a huge battle all season long it looks.
  16. There was no color guard judge. No individual sections were judged tonight, simply GE music and visual, and visual and music analysis. J Orafitz was supposed to judge color guard tonight, but judged GE visual instead, since that judge did not make it to the show. Color guard scores are the same as the overall score of each corps for substance and achievement.
  17. Placements: Madison Spirit Troopers Crossmen Blue Stars Colts Slim margins, and not a full panel.

  20. Found a couple... Brass warmup chorale... Very nice sound Drumline warmup Sounding good so far!
  21. I've heard they are revealing them tonight. Maybe only to members? Not quite sure.
  22. Someone uploaded a run. Not quite sure about this show... Sounds like the brass needs some tone quality work. But this is early on, so we'll have to see how it progresses as tour begins.
