  1. This is just raw data and I am not trying to over analyze anything. When it is hot outside I look at a thermometer to see how hot and I better get some water. If the show is loud now I know how loud and I better protect my hearing. Simple.
  2. For the Pittsburgh show I was on the 50 about three quarters of the way up in a high school football stadium, so location, location, location. I am sure results will vary depending on the venue, seating location, etc.
  3. I have been a long time sufferer of tinnitus - the constant ringing in the ears for which there is no known cure. You learn to live with it and as I grow older I am becoming more active in protecting my hearing. I have been a DCI fan for going on six years and I have had a growing concern about the exposure of drum corps shows on hearing. Listening to numerous podcasts and reading forum posts about the health of drum corps performers auditory health did come up in discussions. I am happy to see that corps are now addressing this issue and I am seeing performers wearing hearing protection. What about the spectators in the stands? During my travels I listen to drum corps related podcasts and I discovered a new company that caters hearing protection to performers Etymotic Research. It wasn't until my audiologist gave me a free set of Etymotic earplugs that I decided to check out what they have to offer. In addition to various types of hearing protection for different situations Etymotic offers a personal noise dosimeter that will measure cumulative exposure. A more costlier version allows connection to a computer to download and interpret data. So with my new toy (medical device for tax purposes) I decided to see if there is a danger for the spectator. In the dosimeter manual Etymotic provides the following table based on National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) standards. So far I have been to two performances, the DCI Tour Premiere on June 23, 2016 in the cinema and Innovations in Brass: Pittsburgh on June 28, 2016. Here are the results. DCI Tour Premier - June 23, 2016 Innovations in Brass: Pittsburgh - June 28, 2016 BOTTOM LINE: Total exposure on June 23, 2016 was 14.7% Total exposure on June 28, 2016 was 109% or 1.09 times the daily dose. This occurred during a two hour period. Hearing protection needed. I did wear hearing protection during the performance. Yes it is a little muffled but I can still hear the high licks of the sopranos and the deep bass of the battery and I plan on keeping my hearing as long as possible. I will continue to post results from others show I attend. I plan to be in Allentown this Thursday June 30 and at DCA: Red, White and Brass on Saturday July 2 in Ijamsville, MD.
  4. I just saw their last show from San Antonio on The Fan Network. Not bad for the new corps on the block. It's great to see new corps starting up when seem to loose them faster. Andrew
  5. Does anyone know where the corps will be housed and practicing in Allentown? Andrew
  6. How can I get my name changed? There is no option in Settings to change my screen name. Any help for the administration would be appreciated. Andrew not Andrwe
  7. Jersey Surf doing here comes the judge. The guard dresses in green polo shirts and khakis all equipped with Sony recorders,
  8. Well this webcast makes up for the fiasco from Buffalo
  9. Someone already started a thread on which shows moved you emotionally. How about the ones that made you laugh? Here are my picks: 1. Jersey Surf - these guys just love to have fun. The dance routine by the corps was great, but the best was the Arthea Franklin impersonator R-E-S-P-E-C-T. I nearly fell out of my seat. 2. Spirit of Atlanta - The bar scene with everyone toasting and drinking. 3. Bluecoats - There is one part that the tubas toot one note bent over with the bell between their legs. Good thing there was no odor with that toot. Andrew
  10. My message to The Fan Network and their reply. From: andrew Sent: Tue, 06 Aug 2013 06:50:58 -0500 To: support@thefannetwork.org Subject: FN Support Request: streaming Network Drum Corps International I'm writing about something I saw on/at DCI Fan Network Date/Time August 06, 2013 - 6:48 AM First Name Andrew Description There is no need for a response. I just wanted to add my voice to the many complaints that you have received regarding the quality of the Buffalo TOC webcast. I would recommend that DCI do provide an explanation of the circumstances of last night's event and an assurance that this will not happen with the upcoming live finals webcast. After all DCI is promoting this great event that has not been seen live since 2001. The disastrous results of last night's webcast cast a shadow of doubt on the upcoming finals webcast. A concerned fan. <br class="Apple-interchange-newline"> Hello Andrew, I know you said there was no need to reply, however we would still like to sincerely apologize for the quality of broadcast at Buffalo's event on August 5th. The circumstance that occurred is an isolated incident, and will not be carried over into the Championship broadcasts for Prelims, Semifinals and Finals. We've consulted with our content delivery provider and have come to a conclusion on the matter. Please let us know should you encounter any issues this week during Championships. We do not expect interruptions in said upcoming events. We greatly appreciate your support and patience with the Buffalo broadcast. Sincerely, Trina Support@TheFanNetwork.org L1 Drum Corps International
  11. A tie between Blue Devils and Carolina Crown. now that was worth all the BS in the webcast.
  12. Webcast production of this show is definitely up for a Rotten Tomatoes award. At least the commercials are coming in without any problems.
  13. What is the drum major doing to the four guardsmens at the beginning of the show? It looks like he is pounding their chests. There is a custom in the Army Airborne school, after the graduation jump the Airborne wings are pounding into the chest without the keepers on the back. That means the pins are going into your skin. That is the only thing I can come up with. Anyone have an insight? Hu-yah....
  14. The Cavs piccolo. A short but sweet piece that the soloist hits every time.
