  1. I think one of many reasons was the attitude that when you aged-out you moved on. Instructing, career, family, school. Add the fact that West Coast DC started "late", 1967 for SCV as an example, those of us who marched are finally reaching that age when careers are established, the kids are out of the house or old enough to be left by themselves, you got your Masters, etc. So we are now looking for something else to do. We finally have the time and money to do senior corps, more or less. Add attitudes that discourage partipation, from the 1997 SCV Alumni Corps being opposed by some of the staff and leadership at the time to some SCV Alums being angry that we chose to spend our time and money on Renegades and not on the "kids". Even though the 97 and 02 Alumni corps put people in the stands at PP and the fact that most if not all SCV and BD alums in Renegades are or have contributed to thier respective organizations. (congrats to Jeff P. btw) (to be fair and balanced, there are just as many if not more SCV Alums who support our decision to perform again). I beileve it was the confluence of many factors the lead to the creation of the Renegades, and apon seeing that the creation of RCR, Dream, NW Venture, etc. For me, Renegades has provided me the opportunity to play music I couldnt in SCV, to reform friendships lost over the years, to make new friendships as important as the ones I made in SCV, and to perform and hear that appluase once again. Its all good.
  2. Wow, if I didnt have a previous engagement that weekend .... plus Ive already done Mambo B) GO KINGSMEN !!!!!!
  3. Strange, I made the same suggestion about 4 years ago. Add I am Curious Yellow and the Opening of Misty Beethoven. But I think they went with Bohemian Rhapsody instead. B)
  4. Finally have someone do the greatest ProgRock show ever. Selections form: Yes - close to the edge Genesis - suppers ready Emerson, Lake and Palmer - karnevil 9 King Crimson - 21st Century Schitzoid man Kansas - Paradox, Magnum Opus etc. Many corps have tried (BD, Bayonne Raiders), but none have really pulled it off. Or we could always play some "silly Blue Devils songs" <$1 to Rich S.> B)
  5. Death music, Funeral music. Selections form various Requiems (motzart, verdi, bethoveen? maybe elington, kenton, or maynard did a Requiem in Blue. Expand it to the Rock and Roll realm with Stairway to Heaven, Funeral for a Friend, Electric Funeral, etc.
  6. this has probably already been discussed .... so every region has its local drink, beer, food. What should I make sure to try when in North Carolina? any local microbrews to watch out for? Anything I can try other then a Mint Jullip? (I dont like mint). I guess that we are in the heart of tabacco country, so I should be able to find some nice local cigars? How about food? ribs? fish? Help a tourist out. thanks
  7. Saw Jesters show from the sidelines on Sat. Color guard - competent, confident. Gave me the impression the group started as a winter guard and is building into a drum corps. Hornline - I beleive that the horn book may have been a little over thier heads, but there were many times during the show when it all clicked. Beautiful moments equal to that of the big guys. Drums - As a horn player not really qualified, but nothing that made me wince. Over all a gallant effort, a show performed with heart. Am more then proud to make Jester the newest member of my favorite corps of all time list. Keep it up, guys. And most important of all, REMEMBER all of this. It will last you a lifetime. Cant wait for Jester 2006.
