I did as well . If they deliver on the promised enhanced features they claim they will provide us fans this season , it will be potentially much improved . I’m particularly pleased that they will apparently provide replay after the event and with sound . Watching a replay on Flo of units without sound did nothing for me , and so never bothered with replays of anything on Flo . Now it’s good to have the ability to see and hear a show where we might be out at the time of the show , or we want to rewatch it . Some of the shows on the west coast have late starts for us Midwesterner’s and especially those back East . Having the ability to catch the show later the next day if we want to , is a nice feature , imo

The question will be, however, if it's "on demand".  They offered the same last year, offering a replay the next day, but it was at a specifically scheduled time, so unless it fit into your schedule...sorry, you were out of luck to view the replay.

curious what peoples' network speeds are who are having no problems -

using speedtest.net in chrome (doesn't require flash) on a mac and windows laptop, I'm seeing download speeds of 17 - 18 mbps  --- I'm testing both via wifi and direct ethernet

for the DATR stream we had a lot of buffering and pixelation - either my network isn't fast enough - (we don't have super high speed service - just basic cable modem service) -
or FLO's server setup can't handle the amount of simultaneous connections...

Usually, I check on speedtest.net prior to each show just to see what I'm getting so I have an idea of what to expect.  Last night, prior to logging in for DeKalb, I was getting 43 Mbps with a wireless connection from my router.

I wonder if the Flo app is at fault. I don't use the app. I watch through Flo's website, connecting my computer to TV via HDMI. Works fine. DeKalb even sounded fine, much better than Minnesota a week before. No glitches or freezes. Using wi-fi for my connection.

Ah, excellent point.  I don't use the app either, just the website and use HDMI from my laptop to TV.  No issues.

Usually my iPhone gives me very reliable streaming. I stream ESPNU and ESPN3 constantly, hardly ever have these issues.

I guess I don't know what to tell you then.  All I know is that my streaming was flawless last night.  Additionally, I also started with the DeKalb show and then switched to DATR and had no issues after switching, unlike what some others have mentioned.  I just have a hard time thinking this is a Flo issue, otherwise everyone would be experiencing the same, or at least very similar, experiences.  Considering all the negative comments about FloMarching coming into the season, I've been very satisfied with the streams-other than the less than stellar camera angle switches with muliti-cam.

I tried streaming from my DSL line, and from my Verizon phone as a modem. Both through my iPad and my AppleTV using the Flo app. Nothing was even watchable quality wise. At multiple times the audio was 15 seconds out of sync with video.

Well, to be honest, I think you've pretty much defined the problem.  If you're on DSL and trying to run through your phone to another device, you can't be getting more than about 3 or 4 Mbps download speed (just guessing) and that would be nowhere near enough to be able to stream this without buffering.  I would venture to say you'd need to be downloading at a speed of at least 15 to 20 Mbps to get a reliable stream.  I used to be in the same boat with the old Fan Network until I got a new cable connection that gave me 60 Mbps.  Since then, I've never had any streaming issues.

  7. All I can say is that I've now watched 3 separate events and have had ZERO buffering issues.  I use a laptop on a wireless connection connected to my TV with HDMI cable and a connection speed typically around 40Mbps.  If you're getting buffering, it's either your browser's cache, your connection speed, or an issue with your ISP.  If the issue were with Flo, then everyone would be having the issue.

  8. I have to admit that I still have some mixed feelings about this show.  After my first viewing, I was feeling kind of, 'meh' about it, but after the Minnesota viewing, I was much more impressed, however, I'll admit I'm not exactly enamored with the music choices.  The closer, however, still leaves me with a bit of the 'meh' feeling though.  Not to sound like I'm trolling, but I am curious as to how tesmusic is viewing this year's production.  He has been one of the Scouts most ardent supporters and defenders on this forum, yet has remained virtually silent over this year's show.  I would be interested in his honest assessment of what is going on here.  I'm a long-time fan and follower of the Scouts and would love to see them contend for a title once more, but I'm not sure this direction is necessarily going to get them there.  We can only wait and see.

And "us" is whom? Arrangers, music directors, music professors? I'm a fan of the Scouts show this year, but there's much in DCI that is not at all recognizable to bunches of fans. That includes parents and donors putting up substantial funds, the total of which surely is not on the small side of "most." Please don't assume us away.

Exactly!  Unfortunately, much of the music being performed now is intended for the judges and those with a far more extensive musical background than the average fan.  I realize the competitive element has pushed the activity more to the visual and away from the music, but it continues to get worse.  It seems the music has become more of a background soundtrack while the guard has become the "show."

On another thread someone said you can download the flo app through Roku and just stream that way. My assumption is that this would work for a fire stick or maybe Apple TV as well. I have Roku so am going to check it out.

Ah, I think I saw that as well.  Thanks.

  11. Just curious if anyone knows any of the tech specs required for the Flomarching streaming.  Just got a new LG smart TV not too long ago and wondered if I'd be able to stream using the browser, or if I'll still need to hook up my laptop to the TV.

  12. Paid attendance was a record...... I'm sure TOTAL attendance was as well.....as the wrap around seating (mostly corps kids from outside top-12) indicates. The seating capacity is 62,000 and it was less than half full.....maybe even 28,000 ??? Huge numbers either way !

Record for Indy maybe, but not all time. I believe 1982 in Montreal is the record with Finals attendance of nearly 40,000.

  13. Ah well...there goes the last $99 I'll give DCI!

Why? To be honest, the number of shows offered and number of outstanding shows by the corps this year, as far as I'm concerned it was $99 well spent. Would I have liked on demand playback....sure. But I'd like a million $$$$$ too, but I'm not going to get that either. Some people just can't be satisfied with anything.

  14. I realize that you like to defend DCI at all costs, which is a noble cause ... but the list of streamed events that was provided when I was evaluating whether to purchase the DCI Live! Subscription most definitely did NOT include any notice that the prelims stream would not include the Top 15 corps. In fact, the list still doesn't include any indication that the prelim webcast would not include the entire show:

    http://www.dci.org/liveEvents/liveEvents.dbml?&&DB_OEM_ID=33500

You may be correct that there was some press release or something that may have included an asterisks at the beginning of the season, but that is not sufficient to inform all of your customers what the terms of their subscription are. It's really not that big of a deal to me, as I probably won't be able to get off work early enough to watch prelims anyways ... but DCI really needs to get its act together on this kind of stuff. It can have serious legal implications. It is this kind of sloppiness that likely caused us not to have the Fan Network archives this season, or the ability to purchase Blu-Rays from past seasons.

Have to agree with Fred here. I purchased the $99 package as soon as it was available, and after checking the "More Info" to see what was specifically included, it was very clear that the final 15 of the prelims was not included and in the theater only. If you didn't see it, it's your own fault.

  16. While it's true that it wouldn't really be possible to notify individual users, a simple post on the Facebook page or madisonscouts.org would most certainly been possible. A simple explanation that the app was being pulled, and the reason for it, would have sufficed. It would good enough when they originally announced the availability of the app. A simple courtesy to those who purchased the app would have been appreciated, that's all.
