  1. Thanks for the response. I suspected that was most likely the case. This issue is just going to continue to be more problematic in the future. Too bad.
  2. So, does anybody know what happened to the Madison Scouts app? I can no longer get it to open, and when I tried to reinstall, I get a message that the app is no longer available. If Madison was going to pull the app, it would have been nice to have let people know, especially since people paid for it.
  3. This is spot on! This thread has almost become pathetic in terms of the whining by some, and then the call-outs by others. I get that some may not like the show; that's fine. For those that do like it, that's fine, too. Just stop acting like a bunch of 5 year olds (and that might be an insult to some 5 year olds). I'll start right out and say that I never marched Scouts (marched a small corps in MI) but have been a huge fan since the first time I saw them in 1976. Over that period of time there have been very few shows that, at least on some level, I didn't like. I have to say that this year's show leaves me a bit underwhelmed. Overall, I love the music, but I just think they've tried to cram too much in, and just when you start to get into one of the numbers, it's over and they're on to the next. Other than the T-bone feature and the trumpet solo at the end (I'll touch on that more later) nothing memorable. Visually, they're just sort of....meh. Again, nothing special, or particularly memorable. If you don't agree, take a look at some of the video this year and the crowd reactions. I just don't see the spontaneous standing Os that the Scouts normally get. Granted, I am just going by YouTube and Fan Network since I haven't been able to see them live this year, but I've always noticed the crowd responses in the past. Now, that gets me to the ending. I LOVE the soloist and he's done a tremendous job; unfortunately, it just doesn't feel like the right way to end this show. Speaking only for myself, it just feels like.........................exactly-like there should be more. I realize that things change, but the idea of the Scouts walking off the field to mild, almost "golf clap" applause just doesn't feel right. Like I said at the beginning, there's nothing wrong with having different views on this show, and like others, when I heard the original announcement I expected something different. But that's okay-everyone's entitled to their own opinion. But it's time to get off all this other crap!
  4. Very true. I forgot about all the squatting and shaking the rest of the corps do while playing. Most of it looks completely rididulous. Unfortunately, for some reason the judging community seems to think this crap is part of the visual package, and the more a corps does, the more they like it, apparently. This supposedly demonstrates the MMs ability to do more than one thing at a time. Today's DCI prefers brass players to wiggle their butts around while playing, as opposed to the days when brass players would lean back and let 'er rip. The wiggling and squatting just doesn't do it for me.
  5. Hornine was definitely solid this year, and the drums were a pleasant surprise. Finishing 5th is no small feat considering where they were a few short years ago. As to the color guard. I remember a day when the Scouts would enter the field and you could see a confident, bad-a** attitude from the entire corps. Now, you can still feel it with the drums and horns, but then there's the guard. Now, here's where I know the red negatives will come flying. I know this will probably offend the "PC" crowd out there, but the Scouts guard just has too much of a "Tinker Bell" quality to it that just doesn't fit the rest of the corps. Considering the theme of this year's show, it was almost comical to watch the guard prancing and spinning around while the rest of the corps is singing "You'll Never Walk..." Could that really have been any less military? The Cavies guard has maintained a physical, macho style over the years that has served them well. The Scouts....not so much. I think the time has come to rethink the whole approach to the guard.
  6. This is the 3rd year I've subscribed to FN, and while I would say this year has been better (other than the Buffalo disaster) I have been frustrated with the "Your video is no longer available" error message. Until this season, I have NEVER seen this error before....on any site! I got it 5 times yesterday. Fortunately, I could click the pause button, then click Live, and I was back in business. As to my system, I was running a laptop with 8G RAM, connected by HDMI to my TV; and even though I was using wireless from my router, I did numerous speedtests throughout the day and consistantly was getting 22-29Mbps. No reason to have gotten that many hangups. That being said, yesterday's semis were GREAT!
  7. Look, I understand the historical significance of Whitewater and would never suggest not having a show there. However, what I can't understand is DCI continually jerking around Kalamazoo and the DCI show at Western MI University. I've attended every show they've held at WMU and can tell you the attendance has always been outstanding, certainly better than the photos shown here. Now there may be a perfectly reasonable explanation for not continuing this show on an annual basis (stadium scheduling conflicts, for example) but this show has always drawn well, but DCI just keeps fiddling with having it one year and not the next. Just throwing it out there....
  8. I know that there's always a lot of false hype put out here for many corps, so anything posted at this point is pure speculation, but it seems that the Scouts thread has been rather quiet leading up to the season. Just wondering....is this good or bad? I'm definitely looking forward to the 2013 program, so I'm hoping it's a good thing.
  9. First show I ever marched was in Frankenmuth in 1976 with the Midshipmen from Petoskey, MI. I live in the Muth area now, so I plan to check this group out. From what I understand, they will be doing a performance after the parade.
  10. I played it in '76 with the Midshipmen from Petoskey, MI
