  1. As far as the show goes spoke to the show designers a few weeks ago and they said that they will be adding the walk as the season progresses. So by finals there will actually be a walk. I think you can see parts of it right now, but I am sure that by finals it will be easy to understand the show.
  2. I have been puzzled by the scores especially PR this season. However last night PR seemed a little off. I think they took some things that didn't work out of the show and they were not sure what they were doing in those spots. I was thinking a few moments of awkward visual silence . They did not appear to be moving with confidence I think maybe they made some changes kinda late in the practice cycle. I think the next outing there will be a drastic improvement in scores. As much as I like the show last night was was not the best showing for them
  3. PR Guard needs to build its confidence. everyone else has that confidence on the field but the Guard needs to get a little attitude,
  4. I really liked Boston's show. I liked the pacing and staging though I think the brass has a good tone, I like it louder,
  5. Working with a small corps is rewarding. If proper techniques are taught your kids move on to world class corps, then at DCI you can cheer for probably 8 of the top 12 corps since your kids all stepped up and made it with world Class corps. So spending time with a small learning corps can be very worthwhlie for the marchers
  6. Lf I remember correctly this was a free show in 99 or 2000. I talked to many Crown members after the show and many said they wanted to go to Glassmen next year. It was also one of the first shows where Corpvets (the atlanta DCA Corps performed.
  7. I believe the policy is if you spend more than 8 hours in contact with the members. So if you came out one day to work the food truck you would be OK w/o a background check. but you would need it for the second day. It is good to have it regardless just to be safe for you and the corps.
  8. I agree SUTA is just for the members. However I do not think someone should ask people to shout out something that they do no understand
  9. There are many moving parts in a Drum Corps show. people moving props, handing off instruments to others. Even just empty space on the field can get marchers disoriented and lead to collisions. I think the corps I was with earlier the # 15 people missing they could not safely perform the show
  10. I guess they figure if you get bored enough you will go out and get that 18th regiment shirt to hang in your closet for the next 15 years
  11. So were the local authorities informed of this abuse ? Were charges filed against the abuser ?
  12. The show cancellation has to do with many moving parts in the show. If one of the people moving props is not there then people will be running into the props and that's what a thing. Also there are parts that require two people working together like people dancing together or even the soloist handing off their instruments to someone else. And when too many pieces are missing it just becomes dangerous for everyone so that is why you would do a standstill
  13. I think that BD not going to Indy last year may have an effect on this years scores.
  14. Pretty amazing how all of the sudden this year the oil companies got greedy I am glad that 2 years ago they were not greedy and they gave us low prices. Maybe they knew corps would be back on the road.
  15. I wish that we could see all the corps bank accounts and see which ones may be in trouble. I just hope that no kids are in camp or getting ready for camp only to find out that it just cost too much to take a corps on the road. I thought DCI's recommendations a few years back suggesting 50k as an emergency fund was a little high, but now I hope that all the corps have that extra cushion since we don't know how high these costs will go.
  16. My flex fuel for my car is $3.40 a gallon. gets slightly lower milege on flex than gasoline but still saves money overall
  17. Maybe more well managed corps, but we don't need more corps with old busses broke on the side of the road, Kids getting one meal a day. Corps making it to Indy and needing 5k to get the kids home. I don't think poorly managed corps are good for the kids or for the activity as a whole.
  18. I hope that they have good safety practices. If it were to become widespread in many corps it could make the housing situation even more difficult.
  19. I have a flex fuel car. Gas is about 2.70 a gallon right now, gets about 10% less mileage when I fill with flex, but it is mostly from corn farmers, not effected by Russia or Iran.
  20. It looks like most corps are doing shorter tours this year, that may help a little bit with fuel costs. I am not sure of the numbers but I know many of the trucks are owner operators. They may be loyal and doing it because they like it, however they are less likely to have guaranteed fuel contracts. There was a big jump in fuel prices in I think 2000 and the corps adjusted I am sure they will work their budgets to make it work. I think there are bigger issues to worry about right now.
  21. They probably have different work times for their regulaf jobs. One can take off weekends and is near where they practice, the other is probably a school teacher or another job where he can take the summer off.. I don't know but it is my educated guess
