  1. When it comes to BD shows, i definitely enjoy it. But im hoping that by finals I'll be impatiently waiting for bd's show to end so i can see SCV following them. Sorrynotsorry
  2. I like that despite the changes, corps often retain their sound. This is such a bd show. But in a good way.
  3. Can already see this show coming together. So excited for finals because of it. I like it. I love it. I want more of it.
  4. Holy hell that is cleaner than i expected after a week.
  5. Im a big scv fan. Every year im worried that theyll do a show i wont like. Every year they find a way to make their show my favorite. This year included. Maybe i like the shows because im a fan, but maybe i like the corps because they do shows i like. Idk. But this is a fun and aggressive show that i cannot wait to see live. From guard to drill to visual design to percussion to high mid and low brass, its all there.
  6. I had a buffering issue too but it came back. Im so proud of this corps. Over the years they have really shown growth and consistent show quality. I just want to be there when they discuss concepts. But their corps has improved too. This is the best bk brassline in corps history (in my opinion). Im not knowledgeable about anything drumline, but people say good things. Their color guard is arguably underutilized this year, but they perform well. Great performance from them today. I cant wait until they meet up with the other half of the country.
  7. BK's shows often take time for me to love. I usually end up loving them. Each one is its own journey and i typically think about their show the most outside of dci. Their opening is so beautiful.
  8. Which is nice because, at least in the feed, the balance is so low brass heavy.
  9. Phantom has always been a hit or miss corps for me when it comes to their show. Obviously the turnover in staff over the last 5 years hasnt helped. But 3 of the last 4 shows have been forgettable to me. I fear this will fall into that category. Its just underwhelming. However, they do a lot more interesting things with drill than they have in recent years. Their visual design does w great job of utilizing the whole field, which is impressive given their minimal props. Im excited to see it live later this summer though. Its a pleasant show and sometimes creepy. But in the end it lacks the "wow" of turandot or into the light.
  10. I dont dislike the academy show. Im fine with silly and cute shows. It takes itself just serious enough that its a show that is "finals worthy" if they play it well enough. I just dont know if they can.
  11. the last time SCV or BD competed in a judged competition was Sunday at Stanford.
  12. oh i understand. Some years there is a battle for 12th though and sometimes the battle is for 13th. Even then, there is more to a DCI season than just the top 12.
  13. back when i had more time in the summer, i used to make a spreadsheet with graphs that tracked scores as well as caption scores. Glad the folks at BK do it for me now. I wonder if academy/mandarins will be able to make a push for the top 12 this year, or if it is already set.
  14. but the bluecoats turned DCI downside up
  15. well. do they? I would be shocked. It just seems by the spreads this season that the blue stars aren't going to be topping Boston today. 6/22 Cadets 68.3, Stars 64.15, Xmen 63.8 6/24 Cadets 69.2 Boston 68.15 (different show) Cavies 71.05, Xmen 65.9, Stars 65.65, Scouts 64.2 6/25 Cavies 71.5 Stars 66.1 Xmen 66, Scouts 64.6 6/26 Cavies 71.6 Boston 69.1 Xmen 67 I'm not trying to just compare one show's scores to another. It just appears based on spreads that Boston and Cadets are close together (i know the cadets aren't performing today). Meanwhile in back to back shows, swapping stars for boston, boston was 3 points better. I know Xmen aren't here either, but it seems like Stars are battling with Xmen this year. Things can change over the season, i doubt they change much over 6 days.
  16. Interested in seeing the spreads. don't expect anything too weird. But Madison could be closer to the Blue Stars than anticipated, same with boston to cavies.
  17. Definitely cool that Phantom came out west. And not to derail the thank yous, but I would consider BK to be a "west coast" corps despite being from Colorado. They have gone to california each season from 2009 to present. i think its part of their planning now.
  18. the goo is strong with some corps, but its also hard to tell how it sounds in the stands given the placement of speakers relative to the microphones. Live its easier to tell, and thats all the judges care about. If a corps can get roughly the same volume and quality from a smaller brass line, they are allowed to do so. That is the beauty of having a max MM level, if you want to boost one section you do it at the expense of another. Are the cadets singers taking spots from the pit or guard or brassline or drumline? I'm sure this was answered somewhere. The same thing goes with a decrease in low brass marchers in favor of electronically produced bass. Some corps have done so, and boosted other areas of the corps. Designers have the freedom to do so. I just know, personally, few things in life are better than an in your face brassline and experiencing it live. Its a hard balance, and has been the struggle of designing shows for decades though (not the goo necessarily, but how to balance music and visual design).
  19. I came into last night with low flo expectations, i walked away overall pleased with it. I will probably only keep it for one month and end my subscription after san antonio, as I will be in Indi for finals weekend and will likely be busy during allentown. The only downsides were average sound quality (sometimes its the corps fault for where they put their speakers too), but i don't have the highest expectations for streamed content through my laptop. Also not having 1080p was disappointing to me, but not enough to really complain about. Overall i'm happy and excited to watch 4 shows in 5 days from friday to tuesday this week. My peak excitement of the activity is when I'm able to watch streams of live events and follow scores and recaps. The last few years have been weak in that regard, i still miss the fan network and being able to watch shows from the season and prior seasons, and download audio or video from the season. But this will do for now.
