  1. Documentary filmmaking is not a money making venture. Would we like to make money, sure, of course! I would be satisfied if we could at least earn the money back that we poured into this project from our personal bank accounts. As far as money that we earn being donated, we did that with many of our theatrical-on-demand screenings that were fundraisers for high school marching bands across the USA, also around this time last year we donated hundreds of copies of the movie on DVD and Blu-ray to the Madison Scouts to sell at their souvie stand. Ultimately, we are just trying to show new audiences, around the world, how amazing the drum corps activity is, and how it builds better people. Breaking into the top 10 of iTunes can give this activity we love, some much needed exposure.
  2. We have put the documentary, "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood" on sale on the iTunes Store in the USA, Canada, Ireland and Great Britain for 99 cents! This pricing change happened two days ago, and we've rocketed up the iTunes documentary chart from not being in the top 200 on Friday morning, to reaching the number 11 spot yesterday! Every 99 cent rental helps us maintain our position or climb even higher. If you haven't seen the movie yet, now is good time to take advantage of this price. Here's the link to find the film in the iTunes USA store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/scouts-honor-inside-marching/id1156311626 The film is also available on Amazon Video, Google Play, VHX (on our website) and on Bluray & DVD.
  3. Thanks so much. We worked hard to get this movie right. Somehow we walked that tightrope to make it both work for the hardcore drum corps fan and at the same time it works for people who've never heard of the activity. Our film festival screenings proved that it works for a general audience. We do have performance moments in our documentary, and it was a major headache to get the music licensing done to allow us to keep them in the film, but we just couldn't show drum corps without giving you that "in your face" sound that we all know and love. The film now has a presence on the Apple Trailers site, and you can watch not only the trailer there, but 2 exclusive scenes from the movie. If you're still not sure about getting a copy, there are 28 customer reviews on our iTunes page that you can read. This link will lead you there. Thanks again, Mac Smith - Director/Producer "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood"
  4. We're happy to announce that the home video release for our award winning documentary, "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood" is finally happening. Preorders for the DVD and the Ultimate Blu-ray Edition + DVD Combo Pack are now available on our website. The discs will ship in June, and these two versions of the film will be available for sale at the Madison Scouts souvie stand during the 2016 DCI tour. We've been blown away by the reactions to our film from both drum corps fans and from those who had previous never heard of the activity. Somehow we made the film work for both camps which was not an easy feat. Currently we have a user rating of 9.9 out of 10 stars on IMDb.com, which is pretty unheard of. There have been some very nice reviews written by people who've seen the film. If you preorder the home video version before May 31, 2016 you'll get free shipping on all orders within the USA. We are shipping the film internationally (not for free). Please note that the DVD is Region 1 and the Blu-ray is Region 0. There are no subtitles, and these are NTSC transfers. We've been making this movie on our own and we're self distributing it, therefore any boost we can get from the drum corps community is a giant help. Take a moment to share our movie trailer with your friends and let them know what you think about it. Thanks so much, Mac Smith Director/Producer - "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood"
  5. We know that Utah is a bit of a drum corps desert, but there's a chance to see our award winning documentary "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood" on October 7th in Provo. Only a few days remain to pre-order tickets and the minimum ticket number must be reached to lock in this screening. No credit cards are charged until the minimum is met. Please help us get the word out. Tickets will not be available at the door, only through the following link: https://gathr.us/screening/12948
  6. We are finalizing the bonus features now, and expect to announce news within the coming weeks about pre-orders, the official release dates and the details regarding not only the DVD, but the Ultimate Blu-ray edition, as well as the digital streaming and downloadable versions.
  7. Hi all! We have an upcoming screening in Boulder, CO that has a really low tipping point. Does anyone know anyone in the area that could help push that screening past the tipping point? Shouldn't be too hard to find 20 people who like drum corps right? :) http://gathr.us/screening/reserve/12957 We would like to try to get more of these smaller tipping point screenings going so that people that aren't necessarily high school affiliated can go watch the movie with a group of family or friends.
  8. We were hoping to have it done by now, but we're in the midst of prepping the extras for the bonus materials. We'll certainly make an announcement when we have a date and when we will start taking preorders.
  9. Thank you very much, and we completely understand for those of you who don't want to attend the documentary that we made featuring the Madison Scouts before the gala. It makes sense to us. We think this is a great opportunity for people who don't understand drum corps to get a primer about not only what the activity is, but how meaningful it can be. We are down to the wire without about 5 hours left to presell 22 tickets, so anything you can do to get the word out for us would be fantastic. If we don't reach our ticket minimum then the screening will be cancelled. If we do reach it, then tickets will remain on sale until the screening happens, or until it sells out, but online only. No tickets are sold at the theater for these screenings. Here is the ticket event link for our screening: http://gathr.us/screening/11113 Thanks again! Mac
  10. I'm the Director/Producer of the documentary feature "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood." Steve Damon, an alum of the Boston Crusaders, has setup a screening of our film to happen at the Cinema De Lux at Patriot Place in Foxboro, at 1pm before the 75th Anniversary Gala and the live DCI show, the East Coast Classic at Gillette Stadium. This is a "crowd driven" screening and will only happen if enough tickets are pre-sold by a deadline; that way it's no cost to the person that requests it. Currently 51 tickets have been pre-ordered, but 23 more need to be purchased by tomorrow, June 19th at 3pm (EST). If we don't hit that ticket quota then the screening is cancelled. We've had 20 of these crowd driven screenings across the United States, screened in 4 film festivals and won 3 awards. While most drum corps documentaries haven't worked well for general audiences, we've struck the balance of not dumbing down the subject matter for the hardcore fan, yet we've made it completely accessible for an outsider. There have been young people who've seen the film who have left the theater and signed up to join their high school marching band and others who've gone on to audition for a DCI corps. We all know how hard it is to describe what drum corps is to an outsider. Our film takes that challenge away, plus it's meant to be experiences in a movie theater because not only did we record many of the live performances in 5.1 surround sound, but they were mixed by Academy Award winning Re-Recording Mixer, Gary Rizzo at Skywalker Sound. This may be the best audio reproduction that you've heard of a live drum corps performance. Yes, the movie features the Madison Scouts, but members, alumni, staff from many corps including: the Blue Devils, Velvet Knights, Bluecoats, Glassmen, Cavaliers, Minnesota Brass, Crossmen, (you name the corps). etc. have seen our film and praised us on how we truly nailed the experience, and also how we didn't sugar coat it. Still have doubts? Read the user reviews on our IMDb page. Here is the ticket link for the Foxboro screening: http://gathr.us/screening/11113 and the movie trailer: https://youtu.be/TQeQDbRbRt0 Anything you can do to get the word out would be truly appreciated. Thank you! Mac Smith - Director/Producer "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood"
  11. No, Hunter has not marched in DCI since the 2012 season, when the movie was shot.
  12. "This film (which currently has a rating of 9.6 out of 10 stars on IMDb.com) has won three film festival awards and has achieved the fine balance of not dumbing down the subject matter for the seasoned drum corps fan, but also making the film work for someone who has never heard of the DCI subculture. It strikes emotional chords with it’s coming of age story and doesn’t sugar coat how hard it can be to be a marching member working at such a demanding level. This is a perfect opportunity to bring someone who’s never heard of drum corps to see what it’s all about. Pick up the phone, talk to your friends, your family and your co-workers and encourage them to purchase tickets to come see the movie with you. The film was designed to be experienced in a movie theater with the audio performance recordings that were not only captured in 5.1 surround sound, but they were mixed by Academy Award winning Re-Recording Mixer, Gary Rizzo at Skywalker Sound. “Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood” resonates with all age brackets and fans of all different drum and bugle corps." 26 more tickets need to be reserved before 3pm (EST) tomorrow! Please notify your New England area friends about this Foxboro screening right next to Gillette Stadium before the Boston Crusaders 75th Anniversary gala & DCI performance. Here's the ticket link: http://gathr.us/screening/11113 Thank you, Mac
  13. We would love it if you could help get the word out about this possible screening in Foxboro on July 2nd. If it gets confirmed then it will screen from 1pm to 2:30pm which leaves plenty of time to attend the Boston Crusaders 75th Gala & the live DCI show at Gillette Stadium. The theater is located right next to the stadium. It's about to be cancelled because they haven't reached their ticket minimum. There needs to be 38 more ticket reservations by June 18th at midnight (EST) for it to be confirmed. No credit cards are charged until the screening "tips." This is a great way to introduce new people to the activity. It not only explains the activity, but also what it's like to be a marching member. Seeing the film and then the "live" show......seems like a fun day. :) >>>> Ticket Link <<<<< Thank you! Mac
  14. Another huge jump in ticket reservations today for our June 15th, Burbank, CA screening! 52 have been pre-sold and there only need to be 15 more tickets reserved to give this screening the "green light!" Thank you for helping us get the word out DCP community! 😀👍🎉 Here's the ticket link for Burbank: http://gathr.us/screening/12281 Cheers, Mac
  15. Thanks for plugging this SoCal screening Garry! Our movie is a perfect way to introduce someone new to the drum corps activity. Not only have we taken the challenge of explaining it off your plate, but audience members really get a taste of what it's like to be a marching member. We show both the highs and the lows in a DCI season. This film was designed to be experienced in a movie theater with big theatrical, 5.1 surround sound. Please spread the word to any of your friends in the Los Angeles area. There's limited time to hit the ticket minimum, and no tickets will be sold at the door. Ticket purchase link: http://gathr.us/screening/12281 Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/873744486012436/ Thank you! Mac Smith - Director/Producer "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood" P.S. If this screening reaches the ticket quota, then I will fly down from Northern California for the screening to do a Q&A after the film.
  16. This event is tonight! There will be tickets available to purchase at the theater. Remember that all the proceeds benefit the Blue Devils "C" Corps. Hope to see you there!
  17. We're aiming to start taking pre-orders for the DVD and Bluray within the next couple of weeks in our online store. We'll post an update here when it goes "live." Thanks for your interest in the film!

  19. The Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps and the directors of the feature length documentary “Scouts Honor: Inside A Marching Brotherhood” are pleased to announce a special screening of the film in Concord, California. On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, the movie will be shown at the Brenden Theatres located at 1985 Willow Pass Road in Concord. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the film will start at 7:00 p.m. Also appearing for a Q&A session after the screening will be director/producer Mac Smith and co-producer John “JT” Torrijos. Tickets are $10.00 and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Blue Devils “C” Corps. As a special bonus, all ticket holders will receive a FREE small popcorn and a $9.00 voucher for a future movie at Brenden Theatres! There will be a limited number of tickets available at the theater on the day of the screening, so it is suggested that you buy tickets on-line beforehand. The directors of the film, both alumni of the Madison Scouts, have long wanted to make a documentary on the marching music activity and the Madison Scouts in particular, having realized years ago what an impact such an intense activity performed at such a young age had on their lives outside of music. Their goal is to raise awareness of positive youth activities, like drum corps, which craft young people into better adults which will ultimately benefit society. One of the aspects of the documentary that the filmmakers are particularly proud of is the sound recordings of the Madison Scouts’ field performances. Co-producer John “JT” Torrijos recorded the live performances with 5.1 audio mixing in mind, wanting to allow the listening audience in the theater to experience these powerful performances as if they were on the 50 yard line of an actual show. The filmmakers are convinced that anyone who watches the documentary in a theater will get pulled into the personal stories that they follow, as well as the “wow factor” of the live performance sound recordings that will keep audience members on the edge of their seats. The Blue Devils “C” corps is made up of kids in Northern California between the ages of 8 and 14 and they perform both in parades and field shows throughout the Spring and Summer. They can be seen at both the Stanford show and the Blue Devils “Family Day” along with both the “A” and “B” corps. To learn more about "Scouts Honor," including the movie trailer, character bios, filmmaker bios, and news items, visit: http://www.scoutshonormovie.com/ Please spread the word by utilizing the "invite" tool built into the Facebook Event Page for this screening. 20. If you are asking which theater or which city, we don't know that area well. Go to the "SCREENINGS" page and act like you are going to request a screening. It will transfer you to the Gathr Films site and you can type in your zip code or city. It will show you the theaters that they participate with. We highly recommend that you consider booking a theater that is centrally located so that lots of people can get there easily. There was recently a screening requested on the Eastern edge of St. Louis. #1 it wasn't easy for people to get to on a weeknight (when it's better to book these screenings) and #2 it wasn't in a very safe part of town. If you are considering requesting a screening, have a promotion plan ready because it will largely be up to you to get people to purchase enough tickets to make it happen. It would be helpful if you have 4 or 5 friends who are willing to put in a little bit of time every day to help you promote it. Also, pick a date that's 3 or 4 months away. That way you have more time to promote your screening.
  21. Check out this video movie review from recent "Spirit of Atlanta" age-out, David Haven. He's better know as jdfuncorps, and posts drum corps related videos to over 16k subscribers on his YouTube channel.... Drum Corps: The Movie?? David has been hired by the Boston Crusaders to be on their media team for the 2015 DCI tour.
  22. Here is the link to purchase tickets to the Nashville screening: https://gathr.us/screening/10250 There are currently 37 screenings scheduled from coast to coast. Check the map widget to find the date/location details as well as how long each screening has to reach their ticket minimum: http://www.scoutshonormovie.com/screenings/
  23. Phantom Regiment posted on their social media channels about the upcoming Dekalb, IL screening date (Feb 26th) at the Egyptian Theater, but there are less than two weeks to reserve tickets. If the ticket minimum is not reached then the screening will be canceled. Purchase tickets here: http://gathr.us/screening/10341 They also posted a link to an article in the Northern Star newspaper about the screening. The article mentions that current and former members of the Northern Illinois University are going to do a Q&A after the screening. It will be a chance for them to communicate to the audience how the marching arts has impacted their lives. Dekalb used to be a hot bed for drum corps, being the home of the DCM regional every year. I know I have found memories of that event. Please spread the word to anyone you know who's within driving distance of Dekalb. And thanks again to Phantom Regiment for the plug!
  24. Florida often gets left out when it comes to DCI tour dates, but we have good news for Florida fans of the marching arts...there are currently 4 screenings of our drum corps movie scheduled in the Sunshine state! These crowd driven screenings will only happen if their ticket goals are reached before the deadlines. Click the screening links to see how many tickets are left to make each one "tip". Credit cards won't be charged if the screening doesn't sell enough tickets, and there will be no tickets available at the door. Spread the word! Gainesville, FL - Feb 12th - https://gathr.us/screening/10108 West Palm Beach, FL - Feb 25th - https://gathr.us/screening/10445 The Villages, FL - Feb 26th - https://gathr.us/screening/10173 Hollywood, FL - Feb 26th - https://gathr.us/screening/10447 To find details about screenings in other states, please visit: http://www.scoutshon...com/screenings/ Thank you!
