Agreed. But the tragic shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in June of that year necessitated the change. -
Jersey Surf 2024 "Surfadelic"
drumcorpsfever replied to Old Corps Guy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
And, great timing of the video. I’d much rather enjoy the hype in February instead of the day before the first show. Also, it’s not the same old boring, canned sound track we often get. I hope more corps follow Surf’s lead in this regard. Nice! -

Mackey is hip and so is Crown. Look out because the hipster meter is about to TILT in Crown’s favor! -

Super excited about John Mackey working with Crown creative for the upcoming season. He’s had a huge influence with drum corps with his incredible music. Check this out:https://dcxmuseum.org/index.cfm?view=search&Composer=Mackey%2C John Wow, Crown is sure to be off the charts again this year! -

Cadets Suspend for 2024
drumcorpsfever replied to TheOneWhoKnows's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
You’re better off where you’re at now. Not only does drum corps not pay well - for the few paying positions they have - I’d be concerned about job security as the longevity of the activity - and many corps - seems to be an ongoing thing. -
Agreed. DCI is one major corps collapse closer to extinction. Heaven forbid BD, Bluecoats, or Crown going dark. That would be the end. Something drastically good needs to come out of this. DCI is officially on life support.

The Staff Merry-go-round
drumcorpsfever replied to DCI-86's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
This has happened so many times before. Last year it was Vanguard. Before them, it was (fill in the blanks). Members have been stranded in the middle of the season, corps running out of food…. It’s bad news. This stuff all adds up. As a niche activity with declining scale, all hands need to be placed on deck to avoid a death spiral. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I hope the new director is up for the challenge. -

Interesting that Cadets just press-released their design team on September 30th. LESS THAN 2 WEEKS LATER, kaput! Ouch! -
Cadets Suspend for 2024
drumcorpsfever replied to TheOneWhoKnows's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I’ll agree they won props that year. But I don’t think props and electronics are the biggest reason that brought down The Cadets and so many others before them. It’s a crazy expensive touring model, cost to house, feed, and care. Years ago, corps could do weekend shows and mini-tour for regionals. Times have changed and ships sailed long ago. I wish there was a solid answer and remedy. But sustainability in present day DCI is next to impossible. -

Ironic to blame the Bluecoats. Everyone know it’s always the Devils’ fault. -
A hard job just got a whole lot harder.

Hate to say it, but I can’t help think the last on-field image I have of the Cadets are the shorts. Please come back in 2025 in full uniform! -
A Cost-Cutting Proposal
drumcorpsfever replied to IllianaLancerContra's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I’m not sure there’s enough scale remaining for a regional model. Perhaps it’s time to scrap the whole DCI model altogether. I wonder if there’s a way to tap into local school districts by creating DCI district bands - district drum corps. These corps would compete during the summer, march in parades, appear in community events and festivals. If successful, the activity may be able to grow and prosper. -
Cadets Suspend for 2024
drumcorpsfever replied to TheOneWhoKnows's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Yea. I know. That’s the challenge. Drum corps has lost the connection with communities due to the large loss of corps. World Class thumbing their collective noses over Open hasn’t helped. It’s coming down to a select few relevant corps. I hope it’s remains sustainable, but at some point it may not be. -

Unless DCI can get back into local communities and stop being a rich kid’s summer camp, the activity as we know it will eventually fold. -
They were pretty solid. I recall the strange name, different uniforms and all. They looked pretty different. Of course, by today’s standards, probably would have fit right in.

Pre-2024 Top 12 Guesses

I like this^. The number 12 was a good number for long playing records. What’s another 3 corps for Saturday? I’m all for it!
