  1. I hope performers have enough gas in the tank after the grueling heat in Texas. To good health and no more standstills and scratches!!!
  2. I get what saying. Kind of what works for them and their signature - “brand” if you will. However, I recall a conversation years ago about the Bluecoats having no show brand. It was actually a good thing because of the freedom the corps could go in - you know, not being locked in to any specific style. Well, about 10-12 years later, it’s worked out pretty darn well for the Bluecoats, hasn’t it? As for 2023 Phantom, I’m not feeling as much a classical vibe to their show as I do Bluecoats-like swagger-vibe. Whatever it is, I love it!
  3. That would be a good discussion thread. “Guess the changes we’ll see”.
  4. Too late to edit my post? Not sure BD had a clean run tonight, but no matter. Congratulations BD - AGAIN!
  5. BD tops BAC.But I got a feeling it will be less than a point separating the two corps tonight.
  6. BD moves like no other. Colors pop. Arm sleeves add a whole dimension to the visual. Beautiful design.
  7. Once I suspend belief and accept the person in white represents a white whale. I’m okay with this. Still would like a huge whale on the field! BAC sounds terrific. I expect a closer gap to BD after their run. Looked great!
  8. Applause - Canton's Bluecoats NPR’s Ideastream, aired 7/25/2023 Season 25 Episode 31 “Canton's Bluecoats continue to redefine traditions of competitive drum corps through creativity and innovation.” https://www.ideastream.org/shows/applause/episodes/applause-july-28-2023-cantons-bluecoats-jzaure
  9. Yummy show! So, with some pretty exciting score shake ups lately - both overall and in the captions - how about a huge upset tonight with BAC over BD? That would turn the DCI world upside down considering Crown edged BAC in Mesquite. That would make it anyone one of 4 corps who could be #1 by the time the turf balls settle on the field in Indy. I know, no one is going to beat BD this year. But wouldn’t that be something!
  10. Another jaw dropper. Didn’t see this coming. Cadets over Mandarins. The spread. I’m loving the surprises this year! FUN!!!!
  11. I think they will. Especially if they can gain 5th in rankings. Last year in Atlanta, SCV was 90.950 in 5th place. Mandarins show has the legs to hit 5th.
  12. Aluminum foil hats to all marching members. That’s one way to bring back hats!
  13. Here’s hoping for continued chaos, call-it-like-you-see-it scoring. Makes it WAY more fun as a competitive component.
  14. Brass content is typically a Crown staple item. This year not so as much. What really hurt brass in San Antonio was Crown brass achievement. That will be cured by cleaning and improved execution. What is more problematic in earning the Ott this year is increasing content relative to the challengers.
  15. Agreed. The reason isn’t so much with the drill design, it’s a reflection of the show subject selection itself. Is it a love story, a story of Arthur and his knight’s battles, driving off invaders, uniting lands? Excalibur? Lancelot, Guenivere, Merlin? What is the conquest this show is trying to convey? I’ve seen Crown many times this year and can’t quite explain it. Maybe it’s just too complex of a story to show in 10 minutes. Maybe the final ending will pull it all together. But is it too little too late? I love the sounds, staging, and execution. All very worthy. However, the concept and design choice is somewhat baffling.
  16. Also, in spite of folks on the left coast that may disagree, making Indy the home for championships was wise. Gaining an initial 10-year lease, and then getting as extension for another ten was brilliant. Attendance has been excellent and DCI has remained steady through turbulence.
  17. Let us not forget he navigated some pretty strong personalities through G7 too.
  18. First time poster in Mandarins thread. Saw the show last night. Holy cow! Mandarins show is definitely top 6 material. Really loved it!
  19. Love that Cavies took 1st in percussion. Hats off to the percussion judge for calling it as it is and not as expected.
  20. Hoping Dan, as one of his last achievements for DCI before he officially retires this year, to please fix DCI.org.
