  1. Places like Pioneer for sure, but I really don't have a full list of who does or doesn't.
  2. My personal experience partaking in audition camps two years and then volunteering the year after, it's become more intense over the years. The mentality still is and has been to nurture and inspire future performers with a great experience that will make them better back at home/school, even if they don't necessarily make it to the corps. And usually, yes, that sometimes means multiple camps to make the decision to contract or cut. No cut policies do exist at some places, and that reflects those places' purpose to offer the full and complete drum corps experience to anyone that wants it.
  3. Gloves. Even if some of your friends are the prepared type and brought a bunch, chances are they'll have friends who aren't.
  4. Good luck to all corps, especially Spirit!
  5. I did the same thing! Had to stick my plume down the front of my bibs, but it started sliding down my leg when I started jazzing. I did a really cool scissor kick to send it up and out by my foot, then I caught it and kept going.
  6. I, for one, am very interested. These are seriously some of the best pictures I've ever seen.
  7. Thanks so much for this review, and the pictures are AMAZING!
  8. Spirit of Atlanta wears steel deltas for each year marched (and also for years on staff or volunteering). Certain other people also wear deltas cut from used/broken cymbals, which were the first deltas worn before an alumnus started making the steel ones. These used to be given out pretty late in the season, but are now given after the Atlanta regional. There's now an established program for alumni to give their deltas to a current marching member so they can be fielded throughout a summer. Usually marching members will field a family member or someone they marched with, but otherwise it's a random matchup, which is a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect with the corps and for the current members to learn some history.
  9. Not that I really care, but are we gonna get numbers from everyone who was able to take the field?
  10. YOU MEAN THAT GUY WAS MC'ING A DRUM CORPS SHOW?!?!?
  11. Dude, as much as I love drum corps, I love a good appearance by Rick Astley. Um...um...I dislike that twitter feed!
  12. I'm just now getting around to watching this, BK is coming on right now. Some really great drum corps happening out west, and the props to the video crew for putting out a great product for us stuck at home/rehearsal.
  13. Spirit is performing the encore for this show. It's been a while since that's happened too. Good luck to everyone performing, especially Spirit!
  14. The talent level of members (and staff) is still great. They have really great moments, and I do enjoy the show. Conceptually, however, the show concept doesn't come across clearly and just needs layering moreso than other corps. Also, lots of other corps are having really really great seasons too which kinda overshadows a Cavaliers show that just needs a little more work. Not worried, but realistic in my expectations at the same time.
  15. I know. But with all the booze related show topic titles, I had to re-use this one from last year.
  16. Martin, TN Wednesday, June 20, 2012 - 7:30 CST Sounds of Summer Hardy M. Graham Stadium 1022 Elam Center, 15 Mt Pelia Road Martin, TN 38238 Order of Performance Crossmen - San Antonio, TX Spirit of Atlanta - Atlanta, GA Carolina Crown - Ft. Mill, SC The Cavaliers - Rosemont, IL The Cadets - Allentown, PA Can't sleep, so I made the show topic. This is a bad thing since I'm going and I have a 7 hour drive ahead of me. Still! Good weather is on for the show, and I'm excited to see some live drum corps! Very hyped for the first showings of Crossmen and Spirit of Atlanta! This place was a blast to perform in last year, and I hope it's just as fun as a fan. (Well...we know it's not, but you get my drift).
  17. I'm coming from Middle Georgia to the south side of Atlanta, so this may not apply to you at all, but I'm headed to the one in McDonough. It's almost a brand new theater, and my few experiences watching regular movies there have been great.
  18. If you look at the seating chart on the DCI webpage, I would recommend any of the 200-level sections. Obviously, closer to the 50 is always good, but sections 220 and 223 are pretty good deals and put you on the 40-ish yard line on either side. This mezzanine section is high enough so that you can see drill and also not be caught in an overhang that traps overzealous synth effects. Not to mention that this level is the club level for football so the seats themselves are nicer than in the upper deck or field level. I've heard that it's better to call rather than order online so you can request a specific section. The way the online system happens is that tickets are sold from the bottom up within a certain price range, so you'd have to wait until the bottom levels sell out but not too long otherwise you'd get stuck in the nosebleed section.
  19. Honestly, they've always had a good look that hearkens back to their roots while still looking modern. Just as long as there's a diagonal stripe and the colors red and green, I'll be quite happy.
  20. Lots of my friends have been doing ankle weights just strapped around the bell for variable weight working up. Less smelly and possibly heavier than shoes. An alternative to pushups to engage the muscles you'll be using is an exercise I stole from Insanity call a tricep dips. Basically, lay back on the ground like a crab walking position, supported only by your hands palm down facing straight forward and lift yourself by flexing your arms. For a little more resistance, you can lift one leg straight in the air. But, yeah, as has been hit on by many people, the best way to be able to hold up a horn is to practice holding up a horn. Just keep working at it!
