  1. I find it interesting that a lot of the BD honks on here think that criticism of their recent show design trend has everything to do with hating them because they win, and nothing to do with their choice of show design. it’s as if since they win a lot, their show design absolutely has to be fantastic - because if you don’t agree, you hate them because they win. I don’t buy into the success breeds hate concept myself - there are plenty of activities/sports where I am a big fan of the dynasties that exist. BD can win because they have figured out how to win, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t become repetitive, boring, dull, and lack innovation right now - it’s OK, it really is.
  2. Nope. Not at all (at least for me, can’t speak for the others). BD can win a gazillion rings, but their shows, at least right now for me, have gotten stale and boring.
  3. BD is always given a good show to perform and they always perform it very well, but I feel like I have been watching the same show with a different title for a number of years now. And there is a good chance that they will win again this year. But despite their success, they are really starting to get boring. Yawn.
  4. After seeing BD 2005 for the first time back then, I remember thinking that this show was a good example of designers trying to “outdo one another creatively”. I imagined a design meeting for this show to go something like this: ”I’ve got a great idea!” “Yeah? What is it?” “Remember those dance derbies they used to have?” “Umm - I think so. So we’re going to do a show about dance derbies?” “No - just one in particular.” “OK, why just one? Never mind. Which one?”. “The one that set the record for the longest one.” “Oh cool - so we’re going to do a show that tries to recreate the record holder for dance derbies.” “Well, sort of. But with a twist.” “Oh yeah? What kind of a twist?” “We’re going to do it backwards!! <exclaimed very proudly>” “Wait - why are we going to do it backwards??” “Because…well…you must not get it.” Except for that, I actually thought it was a pretty decent show (and not as bad as everyone makes it out to be). As was mentioned earlier, I think the European tour right in the middle of the competition season did them in that year probably more than the show design.
  5. Standstill tonight in Rockford (just announced at the stadium). Get well soon, Cavies!!
  6. “Riffs and Revelations” (My response and oldbandguy’s response crossed in the Interwebs 😀)
  7. Not a lot of competition for something like this tonight.
  8. Lol! The sync rights were the issue (as well as the battle with State Farm).
  9. But is this an outlier or closer to the mean?
  10. Looks interesting! When and how did it get easier to get the rights to Maslanka’s stuff? For a while I thought getting rights from him was almost as difficult as getting rights from Bernstein’s estate these days.
  11. Great, thanks for the info - can’t wait to see what The Cavaliers have in store for this year!
  12. Was there a video of the show reveal, or just the graphic? If there was a video, I must have missed it.
  13. Where is The Cavaliers spring training these days?
  14. Love the source material! Especially the Pitchfork movement from American Gothic - totally sounds like a traditional Cadets closer. Excited about this show.
  15. Lol -she sounds like a theremin during that.
  16. At a quick glance, it looks like only midwest corps are at the Illinois shows. I should look to see if this is a bigger trend - meaning mostly midwest corps at midwest shows, or if this is the case on the East or West coasts as well. Every year pre-pandemic there would be either Crown or Cadets or Blue Devils (or sometimes more than one of these) at the Lisle show, Dekalb show, Rockford show. is this a carry over from 2021, where there was a definite effort to stay local until Indy?
  17. Now that we have been able to see shows, who is taking advantage of the non-judged year by doing things that normally wouldn’t be done in a judged year? What are some things that are being done that will be unique to 2021?
  18. Supposed to be every corps performs on each day, with the theme of each day being “Remember”, “Rejoice”, “Renew” respectively (yes that last ‘r’ was thrown in there on purpose 😀).
  19. Awesome! Question - are those all corps-issued water jugs?
  20. Great news! For anyone wondering where the money will go, with DCI being a non-profit, that should be disclosed eventually, no?
  21. Finally caught up on this thread. Couple of thoughts: 1.) Do we know yet if DCI will NOT be doing a theater event from Indy? There was a lot of talk in the thread that people would rather see an Indy event in the theater than the preview. Perhaps DCI will do something like the Thursday night from Indy in the theater, similar to how they do the first show and then Thursday’s show from Indy in the theaters every season. 2.) I believe I read that the preview this year won’t just be reruns - I thought they will also be doing a “look-in” or two with current corps for their shows this year. I know that’s not the main focus of the preview, but at least we will get a chance to see something for the current season. 3.) I think it would be cool if Dan Potter were to do his Season Preview podcast for the first time as part of the theater broadcast. I always look forward to listening to it to get a glimpse into the upcoming season. That might draw a little interest to the preview. DCI could then always put the podcast onto the Internet after the preview.
  22. I happened to be looking around at some upcoming Fathom Events events when I came across this. Anybody have any info on this yet? http://www.pradostadium12.com/movie/DCI_Celebration_Countdown_Live_VIP
