  1. You would think. However, seems there is quite a bit of disagreement within the Ohio government as to the legality of it (or if it is even a good idea).
  2. How is this even legal?? If the Ohio government doesn’t end up shutting this down, hopefully someone will run the numbers of vaccination rates before and after to see if the $5 mil+ was money well spent, or if these CARES funds could have been put to better use.
  3. I’m assuming this is free to enter for vaccinated people. Where then is the $5 mil+ coming from to fund the payouts?
  4. Someone mentioned earlier that there needs to be consideration in a case like this about concessions and other amenities being equitable to both the vaccinated sections and non-vaccinated sections. What about the seats and the corresponding views themselves? Are there equally good seats made available to the vaccinated section and the non-vaccinated section? I myself am vaccinated, but if it means sitting in the non-vaccinated section to get a better seat or more room, I think that’s where I’m going. And now that I type that, it occurs to me that having that flexibility as a result of getting the vaccine can be construed as “privilege”, but perhaps that is what this type of arrangement causes as a side effect.
  5. It’s easier for professional sports to do a member-based HOF, since achievement in those activities are countable and/or measurable.
  6. Thanks for the response. Yes, I agree for the individual corps. I was wondering more about DCI HQ and their operations in Indianapolis and what’s keeping their doors open.
  7. Honest question - how is DCI staying afloat and able to pay ANY of their bills right now? They have no revenue coming in from shows and current DVD sales. Merchandise and older recording revenue is probably minimal at best. And it could be like this for two years (Spring of 2020 - Spring of 2022). I understand that they laid off most of their staff, but there still are some employee wages, rent, utilities, etc. that need to get paid. And I doubt they had savings to be able to pull from. Did they get any of the COVID-relief money? With possibly two straight years of little to no income, how are they doing this?
  8. But non-competitive, possibly standstills of the same material for three straight days? I doubt they will have enough corps participation to divide up the groups and fill each single day (and I’m guessing nor would each corps want to participate if it is to only perform once in the three days). So will each corps get three performances? Will they narrow the field each day somehow as the three days go on? Will they be repeat performances each of the three days? Will each corps participating prepare three “shows” so they can have three distinct performances? I’m sure each corps participating wouldn’t play the same material three days in a row, so I am genuinely curious (as I’m sure everyone else is) what the plan and format for the event is.
  9. If the bridge tour for 2021 isn’t exactly going to be a competition, what are they possibly going to do for three straight days?
  10. I mentioned this in another thread - what about the age outs from 2020 that got a holdover until 2021? Do they get a second redshirt year, or is this event it for them?
  11. I’m genuinely curious about what DCI will be doing in Indy this Summer (2021). Doubtful it will be on a large scale. I don’t see how it would be possible to put together a number of corps that would travel in from all over the country for just a few days in the Summer. How would large groups even get to Indy during a pandemic? Not to mention the social distance aspect in the performance itself. Hopefully by then the vaccine will be available to the wider population which would help, but I can’t see how DCI would have more than a couple of corps from the Midwest (what does that even mean anymore, since the members themselves are from around the country) with limited number of participants each. Will they play in a standstill or march? What will the quality of the performance be, given all of the above? Also, what does the bridge year do to the members that would have aged out this year? Is this idea for Indy in 2021 their only shot now to age out, or are they even eligible for this anymore? I doubt DCI would allow someone to “redshirt” for two years, so the members that have been waiting will be 23 when the 2022 season rolls around.
  12. 1985 was my first introduction to drum corps via the PBS broadcast. Needless to say, I was hooked ever since. What a great introduction I had that year, including Cadets playing Profanation from the Jeremiah Symphony. Does anyone know (and without me digging out the video and watching closely) if Cadets really abided by all that mixed meter while marching? If so, how in the world did they do that? There doesn’t even seem to be any regular pattern to the meter changes to rely on while trying to execute it. I remember having a conversation with someone about it at the time, and we couldn’t decide if they were actually just marching the whole piece as eighth notes where the mixed meter turned into syncopation or something. If that’s the route they went, then the measures following the 7/8 and 5/8 measures would start on an upbeat, though. Would love to get some insight into how they made that work.
  13. I remember relocating down to the 50 about 20 rows up for their Finals encore that year. That first hit was one of the loudest acoustic sounds I have ever heard (and I have heard a lot)! Will have to check this out now that we’ll all be in need of a fix this year. Thanks for posting.
  14. Just wanted to mention that she is a radiologist and not an epidemiologist - may not quite be a leading authority on the subject.
  15. One thing I don’t understand (and this is an honest question - no trolling)... Why is the reaction now different than when H1N1/Swine Flu was around in 2009 - 2010? H1N1 was more deadly, yet the reaction wasn’t anywhere close to what is happening now. Not trying to be political either, just an honest question.
  16. Really unique sound - love First Circle (and the time signature 😀), and Heat of the Day. Was introduced to First Circle via ‘85 BD on the PBS broadcast. RIP.
  17. Thanks for the insight! I was only thinking of scholastic groups. Been around the activity for a long time, but I had no idea of those circuits. Obviously I knew of the activity association with VFW and American Legion, but I didn’t know there were non-scholastic bands involved there as well. Thanks again for covering me on the “learn something new every day” quota for today :)
  18. Not exactly a fair point. The Summer-long, nationwide marching band circuit has never been attempted. The original MBA Summer Championships was not nationwide nor Summer-long. No other example to compare against. Just becuause something has never been attempted doesn’t equate to the market has decided.
  19. Does anyone know if George Hopkins (or anyone else) actually submitted a formal woodwind proposal in the past, or was it just talked about? Is the the first time that a woodwind proposal got formally submitted?
  20. I don’t think 2019 Ronald Regan H.S. band looked like mass confusion.
  21. Nice win yesterday Bloo!! Love this show - can’t wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds!! Forgive me if this has been posted before and I haven’t seen it. Does anyone know (or can point me to a list) of ALL of the Beatles’ song references in the show? Dean Westman mentioned in the Tour Premiere in the theaters that there were 19 total songs referenced. Their website only seems to list the “major” songs used. Thanks in advance!
  22. Don’t forget to factor in the places (1st or 2nd) of the ties. So you now have: 1: A 1: B 2:C or 1: C 2:A 2:B 1: A 1: C 2:B or 1: B 2:A 2:C 1: B 1: C 2:A or 1: A 2:B 2:C Then the last possibility that you mention: 1:A 1:B 1:C
  23. Or BD any year (recently) - they’re really good at hiding it. Definitely the trend these days.
  24. Right, so does “economics” though, and we don’t say we’re studying “econs” - lol!
  25. Not a problem - as long as you stop using the word “maths”. Hate that 😀.
