  1. For pure innovation across the board, I have to give it to the Bluecoats. Their show looks and sounds different than any other. Plus they are the first corps (that i am aware of) to integrate a vocalist so completely into the story arc of the show. The costuming is also very creative, but also the most far afield of what traditional drum corps used to be. (I miss the helmets :( For the most innovative props, I vote for Vanguard. The nesting cages are used so efficiently/interestingly and they also appear to be easily moved. But what makes this show work so well is the theatrics, which aren't necessarily innovative. For the most innovative USE of props, I vote for BD. The way the painting comes together and you didn't even notice it happening. Brilliant.
  2. Yes, we all say stupid stuff, but this goes a bit beyond some random off the cuff remark. This is more about a mindset, an attitude, that is not accurate and needs to end. And there is NOTHING funny about it. Ask any female MM of any corps who is busting her butt out on the field every day if she thinks this Flo guy's remark is funny, in any way, at all. But I DO agree that the commentary is a nice addition. I also like the guy who talks about drill.
  3. If you've seen one drum corps gym housing site, you've seen them all!
  4. I didn't hear the remark but I read about it afterwards and, yes, it came off very bad. As a female, I found it extremely offensive, belittling and degrading. I can't imagine what a current female MM busting her butt with any corps would have felt after readinghearing that. Anything short of firing the commentator instantly would have been dereliction of duty on the part of Flo. This behavior/mindset/attitude can't be tolerated anymore. The cat is out of the bag. There is no going back.
  5. I really like the direction the Academy has taken this year, fielding a more serious show and having success with that. They get my vote hands down. Also, of all the drum corps ballads that dance around in my head.. I'm finding myself with a brain full of 'tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag...' Feed the Birds was a BEAUTIFUL ballad. Allentown could have really used those umbrellas tonight...
  6. Very bummed to not see Babylon tonight in AT. Stupid rain.
  7. OMG that is EXACTLY what I was just thinking... and then I saw your post. Great minds think alike!
  8. I admire your grasp of the silver lining here. Allentown is still on my bucket list. Dunno, maybe I'll consult the farmer's almanac before picking a year? Unlikely my grandchildren will ever march, being that I don't yet have any, so it's wide open!
  9. Can't imagine that dancer giving that opening a go tonight.
  10. Too bad they couldn't tack on the corps who didn't get on the field tonight to tomorrow night's show.
  11. Kids trying to smile but man, you can see the disappointment on their faces...
  12. I feel bad for the kids who are all psyched up... what a let down for them. Mother Nature is not being kind. That MM didn't look happy on the closeup...
  13. I wonder what it's like for this gal on the brass bus? No line for the bathrooms! There's that!
  14. Well of course there is more to it, lots more, but you can have the 'lots more' and if you still don't have good, consistent teaching, the corps will not be in the elite or 'on the way up' category.
  15. The best corps have the best, most consistent teaching. IMHO that should be a top priority for any corps that wants to move up the food chain.
  16. So poetic... should be published in the annals of drum corps lore.
  17. This Rome location is so great for drum corps. On the OC parent page it is already posted that the kids love this tour stop most. Organizations feed the kids. Brass arcs and circles, drum lines, guard and pit rehearse on lawns and lots all over town. The corps are totally supported by the locals. Good old fashioned fun!
