I know Dans was being sarcastic about “DCI has never had a female dm”...but it got me thinking

of some great ones over the years that led with charisma and talent....Kristi Spears Phantom 96-97,

Catherine Clarke BD 91,  Marcia Hanson Phantom 83-84, Becky Woods Star 85-87?, Ashley Tappen Star 90?

    Any I’m forgetting?

A current great - Savannah Light, Troopers!

Attention Los Negativos (if the zapata fits...):

We've had drum corps participants for many years from Europe, Asia and even Africa. Central America is no stretch. It's what puts the "International" in DCI.

That said, I hereby volunteer for the Troopers Traveling Staff. At this time of year, who couldn't use a week's visit to a country that includes both beaches and cloud forest? I'm imagining mellophones and mojitos. What's not to like?

And, in addition, there is a very active competitive band and drum corps activity in South America, at least. I'm FB friends with a few participants there. I can't vouch for Central America, though.

But someone had time to share “no problems”....

That, apparently, was a corps director, not a DCA official? I'm just saying that news from last weekend should be coming from a DCA official, and many folks I know who were in Atlanta are in transit today.

Bucs have fans that follow them pretty hard core to almost every show. Hell at finals they're basically several row full as a section. Cabs have followers who trek around after them too.

Yup, in my marching days, Cos always said people come to a show to see the Cabs. Half of them come to see us win, half of them to see us lose!

But, yeah, most years at the Wildwood show, the grandstand's about 70% blue, even though it's Cabs' show. Fine with me, as long as their money's green!

Similarly, I go to the Hurricanes' August show every year. The years that Cabs aren't there see less than 2/3 the attendance of the years they are.

    Same here, Jim.

That's for the competition corps.  Some of the mini-corps over the years... smaller than 35, but they were really good, and entertaining. Ghost Riders, Mass Brass, Golden Eagles, and of course, Star United, among others.... they would have been a welcome addition as an exhibition group to a DCA lineup.

Mini-corps, absolutely. But some of those couple dozen member competing corps, let's face it. They were brutal.

Coming from someone mainly involved in the DCI side of things, at this point why doesn't DCA and DCI merge or DCI expands the "All-Age" Class and allows those units to participate in DCI Championships. For example host the All-Age Prelims the morning of Open Class Prelims and All-Age Finals the morning of Open Class Finals. Then allow all 3 classes (4 if International Class is in use) to compete at World Championships. Of course the DCA season runs longer into August and September than the DCI season so there would have to be some adjustment on the part of the DCA corps but it allows All-Age corps to survive in a way that DCA doesn't seem to offer at the moment and could quite possibly boost the attendance of some DCI events as well as boosting DCI's member corps by 14+

Nope. 75-year-old corps will not willingly accept morning finals as a warmup to someone else's event.

Some stuff should change, but this is a nonstarter.

While having a discussion on the Drum Corps Af facebook page, it came up about what is the average on the field now, as some there still label it senior corps.

I believe my corps ranged from 15 to about 56. A bunch of 15 to 18s, some early 20s, alot of late 20s, a couple 40-ish, about three in their 50s.

Picturing about a half dozen other NE corps, most of them appeared to be mostly teens, with a handful of 20s, 30s, and 40s. I know of one 62-ish baritone in one.

So I guess it varies from corps to corps, sometimes by section within a corps, too. For example, Corps A's guard might average, say, 20, their drumline 18, and their hornline 28.

I've heard similar stuff about Fusion.

I've also heard that Bushwackers are moving their base of operations to Delaware... or at least were considering that move. Perhaps someone from Bush can confirm or tell me I'm a rumor-mongering idiot and to shut up.

But that's about all I've heard so far.  On any number of things, I am so far out of the loop that I'm in a straight line. LOL

I can confirm the Bush move. Sort of merging into an indoor program in Wilmington. Imperial Dynasty, I think?

  10. I'm too lazy to go back in the thread to find the convo about recruiting at band shows, but Caballeros will be at at least four, starting this Saturday at our brass caption head's school, and including the Allentown college band show and prob the MetLife BOA (?) event. We'll have current and recent members, with video and info, as well as an (alleged, at least - It's me this weekend 🤣 ) adult, in case parents have questions.

Just pointing out that most corps do this, at least at a couple shows.

  11. I know this is minor in comparison to the competitive aspect, but., with this change, let's face it, there are likely to be even fewer people at prelims than some of you here have been predicting. That means, essentially, that the corps' merchandise operations are losing a day of sales.

If you weren't planning to buy corps swag, please find it in your budget to buy something from your favorite . If you were planning to buy something from your favorite, please consider buying from your second and third favorite also.

On a related note, I can't wait to reveal the special DCA weekend limited edition Cabs "Out of the Box" T and tank design Saturday morning!

As it turns out, it looks like I will be there for Finals, thanks to some friends from one of the corps. I cannot thank them enough.

Very well might be the last time I ever see a DCA title show in person... and I certainly want to see Brenda with Cabs Alumni one more time. Neither one of us can predict our drum corps future... but we have a pretty good idea of where that is going.  LOL.

Still not sure about the transportation... up and back or stay over.  Priceline, and/or caffeine availability,  will make that decision.

So... the streaming will have to wait another year.  LOL.

    Awesome! See you Sunday!
