  1. Hello All! With all of the recent discussion on WGI Wind and considering that we dont have our own forum on this site yet, I thought it might be a neat resource to post all of the videos of this past seasons Winds participants! One of the great things about this past season was the wide diversity of ideas represented among a wide diversity of groups! What are your thoughts? As a co-director of Royal Sound, we would especially love to hear from you about our show! The more critique the better! Royal Sound (Independent) Cincinnati, Ohio. 2. Didn't see anyone else post this yet. WGI has come out with an new FAQ tab on their website just for the new WGI Winds activity! Included is the first ever Wind's rule book! Take a gander! Sound On! Jon Bradner Royal Sound (Winds) Co-Director
  3. This is a great point that we were even concerned about when starting out. The key will be in the rule book. If there are a maximum number of students, lets say 50, a smaller school that can get together even 20 horns have a much better chance at being competitve with a historically BOA dominant school than in a marching band setting where a small school with a 50 member marching band can only dream of being competitive with a 200 member band. In theory, kids of smaller less successful schools consist of very commited members(because it takes heart to be in a band that doesnt win every competition) and will likely be able to recruit at least 50% of their kids for a "Winds" program. That would be 25 kids right there. And if the BOA band is only allowed to use 50, then the smaller school might actually stand a chance. The other level of concern in relation would be a rule book that would be able to control the amount of electronics. If there are little to no restrictions on electronics, a BOA band with money can just buy the world of electronics and essentially drown a smaller school with amplification. If WGI can figure out a way to regulate just these two areas of the rule book, then this activity can be exponentially more competitive than marching band.
  4. That is correct for us. Our focus when we started out last season was primarily education based for young students, this is the main reason we stuck with the IP rule of under 22. Not to mention our oldest staff member is 24, so it is what made sense for us! If anyone has any questions for us, we are an open book. Although, we don't have much information as far as what WGI's hopes are for competition next season. Also, you can always go to https://www.facebook.com/royalsoundime to "like" us and for more information!
  5. Thank you for your support Mr. Chromik! We fully believe our area (Cincinnati) is home to some of the finest young musicians in the country! We hope to be an outlet to showcase that talent from here on out! SOUND ON! Jonathan Bradner & Matt Phillips Co-Directors of Royal Sound
  6. Here is 's performance from this passed season! If you have never heard of us before. We are a brand new Indoor Marching Ensemble based out of Cincinnati, Ohio.It was truly a delightful season. We had a lot of fun putting this together. We learned a lot as designers and staff. This season, we were met by many challenges as a start up group. Lack of time, resources, and even local band director support inhibited us from reaching a higher potential, however I can not be more proud of what we were able to accomplish as a whole organization. I would encourage anyone that wants to, to start their own group for either Sound Sport, or an existing local circuit. We are eagerly looking forward to this next season. With the knowledge that our ensemble is not only real, but something to be excited about, we hope for greater interest and support from the directors in this area in sending some kids our way. I am most excited about the retention interest from this years members. It looks like all but 2 or 3 will be back for next season, which is a great accomplishment to build on. Moving forward as a staff, we are making administrative changes to improve the business side of things. Design wise, we are looking to incorporate a more exciting visual package inspired more so by today's Indoor Drumline groups. On the music side of things; we are going to continue to stick to our non electronic guns, as well as challenging music. We also have high hopes for a larger percussion section. If you would like to keep up with Royal Sound, we are on Facebook, as well as any inquiries can be sent to royalsound.ime@gmail.com. We are very blessed to be in the position that we are in. And we appreciate your continued support! Sound on! Jonathan Bradner Co-Director with Matt Phillips
  7. Here is a sneak preview of what our indoor ensemble has been up to!
  8. Some of this sounds fairly familiar to us at Royal Sound Indoor Marching Ensemble!!! Royal Sound IME formed this year with the same dreams of horns existing in the indoor pageantry arts world. It is nice to know that there is a certain level of enthusiasm that we share with giants of the activity. This is certainly an exciting move into that direction. Our own ideals, aspirations, and code prevent us from being anything but excited for the direction DCI is taking with SoundSport. And yet, we cannot help but feel a sense of deflation… We began a thread on here last month with little to no enthusiasm for an indoor hornline ensemble. We have run into road block after road block in our formation. Especially with local band directors, who have actually told their students not only not to join, but that they are not allowed to join, because something like this is doomed to fail. Yet here we are. With DCI’s own announcement of a similar dream, and suddenly, there is more enthusiasm than not. We would be lying if we said we were not envious of the support. At the end of the day, our only quarrels are out of empty jealousness. We have poured our heart and soul into Royal Sound with countless hours of effort, with no big name or entity to support us other than our own. We have found support in our local indoor circuit, who has graciously sanctioned our experiment. And we are nothing but greatful. However it now makes sense why there was a delayed meeting date, yet quick pull of the trigger with just one meeting. With the knowledge of who was at that meeting, and what was said, we knew there was growing conversation at the possibilities with both DCI and WGI. Perhaps with our formation, more so related to WGI, Royal Sound forced DCI’s hand with a seemingly premature announcement with little to no concrete structure. At the end of the day, those associated with Royal Sound selfishly dreamed of being remembered as the pioneers of the activity. We fear with our very little resources, Royal Sound will simply be overwhelmed and forgotten as “pioneers”. We find hope in still being the first of its kind to perform in such a revolutionary arena. Our motto is “Choose to Succeed Today!” and that is what we continue to plan on doing. That is our only choice. We will continue with our efforts and hope for the best. As we hope for the best for DCI and those affiliated with SoundSport. Although we are not exactly affiliated, we are still all in this together, with the same dreams I mentioned earlier. Perhaps a future partnership is a possibility. Either way, we believe in the advancement of music education in the world. If that means being forgotten so a greater entity can succeed… so be it. Thank you for taking the time to read this. “Choose to Succeed Today!” Jonathan Bradner Royal Sound IME Co-Director royalsound.ime@gmail.com facebook.com/royalsound.ime
