  1. Wayne Downey of BD, Kevin and Moe Smith of Crown, and I all grew up in the same community. I know them to be people of class as are the units they staff. The standard is the needless death of 11 million human lives.

Few of any have agreed with your postings on many threads today. Your DCP reputation is poor for someone so recent to DCP. Whose standards should be in question?

  2. yes, if not to have stood up to this would have been the same cowardly-ness of others who allowed the needless deaths of 11million human lives. Your Irish ancestors did no less.

  3. Those of us who have been to the concentration camps in Germany, Poland, and Slovakia where this man murdered so many and those of us who have lost family members in service to our country because of the violance this man caused also do not find this video funny. I do not apologize for my statement but call the poster to a higher standard, one well represented by the units mentioned here. When others have posted videos of this film on DCP with other conversations in the recent years, the moderators have pulled the threads as offensive. I ask them to do the same now.
  4. Thanks Ghost. I was away on tour at that time and missed this thread and DCP completely. Many fine comments mentioned there, but I am sure others have more. Moderators have my agreement to merge the threads if the moderators so wish.
  5. Ok, my mistype got your attention. I meant of course, 2013. the scores are in (pun intended), the band camps are underway, the DVDs are awaited and the memories begin to lose energy. Before that happens, a simple question: Who in your opinion was/were the best soloists you witnessed in the DCI 2013 season and what prompts your choice? Some suggestions might br Allison Pryor, mellophonist for Cadets, or their trumpet soloist (s)? BD's miked horn player(s) giving us those "only in the studio" sounds Bluecoats' who sounded right out of PBS' mystery series. Cavaliers' fellow using that picolo trumpet which let us in on some secrets... Charlie on his baritone from Boston? (There were some beautiful bari/euph solos in several show this year in my estimation) Kevin LeBoeuf (Beef!) the poet narrarator for Crown (plus being hrn. sgt., MC for TOC small ensemble, and a hell of a nice guy)... Some drum folk/front ensemble folk... That soloist from Phantom who sounded sooo similar to the goldclad Missouri soloist the year Myron did the drill... Guardees? Who did you like and why? Kudos to them all!
  6. no ties in drum corps! Make the judges decide!!!
  7. Thank you Troopers for a phenomenal season, for all your hard work, for the wonderful development and for entertaining us with so many moments worth standing ovations. No matter what one thinks some particular judging panel gave you, you won the hearts of the crowd everytime you performed. What is scary is that your instructional staff is so young and yet have mastered the ability to be great educators and great entertainers. People like Michael Terry, Mike McNeil, etc., etc. what future seasons will give us is up to your commitment to return and keep that long blue line pushing it forward. Thank you.
  8. Best wishes to Blue Stars' members, staff, and volunteers for a great season and earning back your spot in finals. Now, will you lift the voodoo curse you put on me before the first contests?!!! Evidently, my words sparked a reaction which motivated you to even better heights and excellence. FCO! PS. You had the best fitting uniforms too.
  9. must have been the heatstroke from lack of hydration at R &S.
  10. But neither the Bluecoats nor the Troopers use actual American flags but flags which have been amended to seem to be American flags. Look more closely. And yes, there were complaints. Check the Troopers thread about the comments judges made on the official DCI contest tapes in the early season.
  11. The original Broadway production did not use the actual flag but one very close to it. The Schubert theater management was concerned that their French clientele would feel disrespected. The man whose company built the multi-leveled cantilevered stage for that production is a personal friend of mine and he shared the story of the discussions.
  12. You have your opinion, I have mine. As someone who has actually voted at the original five DCI rule congresses and well knows the bases of our rules and their changes, I believe the OP has a point worth hearing.
  13. This! ! (Tony DiCarlo's babysitting duties to the side.)
  14. No, Crown will be at Franklin Field, at U of Penn in Philly for Saturday day practice and at Allentown at night for show.
  15. As long as it's not you doing that, Granny.
  16. Will Cesario be designing the riot gear or does that have to be first cleared with Santa Clara's Miss Amana???
  17. and here the booing has consistently occurred not when BD was performing but at the announcement of scores. No joke.
  18. Just back from the monthly series of medical treatments, so please excuse me that I missed reading many posts. But a few comments here: The very folks on this thread most complaining about others complaining about BD show, even to the point of booing at Atlanta (now an annual tradition) are themselves BOOING others. For instance, Kamarq telling Granny, "Bullcrap" when he responds and compares Granny Smith to his own "mean" grandmother. But K doesn't seem to get that he has the same DNA and is being mean to Granny Smith. The volume, velocity, and vehemence typical in the posts of this thread manifests clearly that there is a major disconnect between those who assign the judges and those who pay the judges' salaries by buying tickets. If BD is given the title again this year, is it perhaps time for BD or at least its design team to move on out of DCI (I don't mean a G-7 break) as the challenge, the reception, and the satisfaction seems to be diminished from what so many others are willing to subsidize? Just floating an idea knowing that Plan 9 and Jasgr... will write volumes in response.
  19. 1, Would not booing be very much historically accurate when viewing Re-write of Spring? It was for the origina! 2. Granny, with the ticket prices DCI and TOC are charging nowadays, is there really that much difference from the NYP at Lincoln Center??? Got to get you out of the farm house once in awhile.
  20. In some cultures, some of whom are more recent to the U.S. than previous arrivals, half-birthdays are celebrated but in a different way. It goes back to an infant mortality thing. Hope you and the in-laws can figure it out. But let's go back to the topic. How to handle it if the judges award the gold to BD AGAIN and the crowd feels otherwise (Crown, Cadets, SCV, etc.)
  21. regarding these further set of questions, I really dig the contribution these special instruments are adding for Bluecoats, Cavaliers, and even BD; Oregon's sousaphone, not so much.
  22. This year the all age forum has seen discussion of Windsor Regt.'s cancellations, Bushwackers struggle for uniforms, etc., etc. Here is another Jersey corps struggling. I post this thread here as Open Class does not get as many viewers as eithe World Class or DCA. Hurricane Sandy, the harsh winter blizzards, and the Spring flooding has done much devastation even beyond the tough economy we all feel. If you are able to help this corps, please do. Remember how many of us started in smaller corps like this. http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/index.php/topic/157055-raiders-financial-issues/
