FWIW, I thought you guys were underscored Finals night in 2004. You guys should have been in the mid 97s at worst. Just a phenomenal show.

Thank you, brother. TBF, guard may have dragged that score down. I had a sail in the closer I'd never encountered before, for example. (In a dome no less lololol.) Like the previous season,  the guard overall had better runs during quarters and semis. Waddayagonnado?

But being carried by that drumline was also a pretty bittersweet feeling. Sad that we couldn't match them, but I literally felt swept off my feet by them so.... 🥰

Wasn't 2004 finals in Denver? That stadium is "open air" not a dome.

Might have been getting a solid number of volunteers each game and game schedule played a part.  There was a minimum requirement of people needed to be in the concession stand. The games could be at 1pm, 4pm or 7pm and you had to be in the stand 3 hours before game time and wound be there an hour after the game .  Then be stuck in traffic. Made for a long hard day.   Volunteers are the lifeblood of corps and corps support functions.  Things need to be easy for most volunteers to devote a lot of time on a regular basis.

    You pretty much got it.

I'll just add it was 20-25 events  each year, requiring a minimum of 8-10 people. For 9+ years it was the same 4 or 5 people who worked everything and it was a constant struggle to fill the remaining spots. There were also financial considerations (due to slow sales and not meeting minimum staffing on many occasions).  It was no longer a viable fundraising option.

The first two California shows of the season is listed on the DCI website as "San Diego area and Los Angeles area" so us SoCal fans are in the same boat you are in.

They already know that the Devils are going to win those shows, so they decided to cancel to save some money. 🤪🤣

    I’ll be blunt:

    Memphis Cadets or

    Cadets of Memphis or

    Cadets of Shelby County

is the dumbest thing I’ve heard this year … so far.

Should we start an over/under on whether this will be the dumbest idea of 2024?

I believe the Madison Alums (at least the ones who post on DCP) would vigorously disagree!

  5. Update posted today on the Crusaders Facebook page.......

Throughout camps and on tour, we are fortunate to receive care from our fully staffed medical team. To help prepare for the summer ahead, this weekend Chip Vokey, RN, Rick Vale, RT, and Brian Hebbard, ATC met one-on-one with members to began preventative screenings including:

    -Blood pressure checks
-Concussion baseline screenings (cognitive retention, balance and coordination, and ocular motor function)
    -Arch and foot posture testing
    -Health history reviews

By taking the time to establish baseline measurements early in the season, our team is able to effectively prevent, quickly identify, and appropriately treat injuries throughout the summer. Thank you BAC Medical Team for all that you do to keep the Crusaders safe and healthy!

I suppose that Cadets LOS block of tickets is released for purchase by anyone?

Or can one still purchase through Cadets, perhaps giving them a small commission?

It probably depends on whether you book through Cadets or the hotel. I believe the way it works is if you book the hotel through an organization’s link on a website, the room has been paid for by the organization in advance. The organization makes more money if they pay for the rooms in advance though it is a risk if the rooms go unbooked. The hotel still handles the reservation and the billing, but if you cancel it is the organization and not the hotel that refunds the money. I know from experience this can be a hassle. I was supposed to attend a convention but could not. I booked the hotel through the organization sponsoring the event. I had to cancel through the hotel but waited two months for a refund. It was all in the agreement so there was nothing underhanded. If you book through the hotel and the organization gives you a promo code, the organization reserves the rooms up until a certain time before the event but does not pay for them and gets a commission. The profit is less, but if the rooms are not booked a few weeks before the event, the organization does not lose money. Refunds for cancellation follow the hotel’s policy.

@Tim K I believe @IllianaLancerContra was referring to purchasing show tickets.

Major change from previous Winters.  How much marching, dancing, and DCI type body movement have they usually learned during these camps?

Not that much of a change. Last year - Brass had in person camps Jan., Mar, & Apr. Percussion had in person camps Jan. & Apr.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.  Might be a good year to dust-off bottle dance to help restore momentum.

Kinda like when the Cadets did the Z-pull after he who shall remain nameless was fired?

I congratulate Russ (the new CEO) getting the audits pushed through that the CFO/Treasurer/President couldn't do in the last four years.

I caution them that Bingo is still operating upside down, and the Vanguard Cadets will never be able to return until they fix whatever is going on with Bingo (why did they make $1.5M less in face of earning $6M more in revenue).

I caution that recent accomplishments of the Board of Directors are:

    1) Reduction of SCV's net worth by $3M in a single year.

    2) The perpetual termination of Vanguard Cadets.

    3) The entire illegal operation of Bingo for the Fiscal year of 2023 (they started the year in a negative liquidity position, there were no reserves to ever pay bingo staff and meet current debts, and there were no sufficient non-bingo income streams to cover that).

    4) SCV is still not a member of DCI.

All of those things still happened, and bingo remains unreconciled regarding 50% reduction in net income in face of $6M more in revenue (for 2022).

I hope irrational excitement doesn't take over.

My spouse couldn't be happier that I have no justification to keep focusing on this.

DCP is just as happy. 😉

At the recent Janual Meeting DCI implemented new stringent rules for rehearsals during spring training and on tour in order to ensure that the safety and well-being of the members is top priority at all times.   Your duties and responsibilities should be listed in your employment contract.  You will be given training on what you can and can't do when you are teaching. Expectations should be clearly spelled out.   Other than teaching you should not have any other responsivities other than be on time when the buses depart each time.  Since corps stay in schools' communal showers are the norm but you will have a specific time when you can shower.   Drinking in public is not allowed so is restricted to staff bus.

I guess I haven't been paying attention. Can anyone point me in the direction where I can read about these new rules? Please and Thank You!
