  1. I think it's the z-pull. They put in the new ending around July 4, and started getting wins vs BD. They took out that running company front, replaced it with the z-pull, and scores started to slide. Before the uniform change.
  2. I'm not sure third time would be the charm since the second time was already the charm.
  3. Agree. It feels unnatural, almost unhealthy, for corps to suppress all that emotion until they're back in the tunnel. It always bummed me out that the corps members couldn't celebrate after all the scores were announced. (On the other extreme, BD's plume bobbing doesn't make me happy, either.) I'd love it if corps would come in and wait for scores like they used to, but after the winner is announced, go ahead and let it out. My absolute favorite part of the "new retreat" has been BD going to congratulate the winner (of whatever that goal might be). Cadets show decorum and class by standing out of respect, but BD breaking ranks to congratulate Crown last year, that's really fantastic.
  4. Unfortunately for you, a drummer made it in first. Allow me to ramble without merit .... The G bugles have a brighter, more direct sound than the B-flat brass instruments. In the hands of a very good brass section, it's a very in-your-face sound. Unfortunately, they're (I guess) harder to play in tune, because most of the time they could be considered assault weapons. Personally, I like the warmer sound of B-flat instruments, but for someone who came to drum corps before the change, it just doesn't sound right. How's that, actual brass guys?
  5. Outside of BD breaking ranks to congratulate Crown during retreat, this has to be the photo of the summer.
  6. Has anyone posted the judge's tape to YouTube, yet? I'm dying to hear it after seeing Hopkin's comments.
  7. Not at all true. They're fully aware when they hand out a perfect score. The difference of 19.8 to 19.9 is 1/10 of a point. The difference of 19.9 to 20 is lights year away, especially when the next closest score is 19.7.
  8. Completely agree. The narration before the Abyss soundtrack hit is so corny!
  9. Edit #3: Crown's show doesn't seem as polished as BD or Cadets.
  10. Before seeing the theater performance, I thought Crown's percussion was holding them back. Now, I think their god-tier horn line is propping them up. The level of performance isn't close to BD, and probably not to the Cadets.
  11. ... like during the big Cavi's flag pyramid, when the guy dramatically falls backwards off the top, they pan to the drumline doing nothing. Nice one, camera crew!
  12. It may be a coincidence, but it's no secret that Hop has a thing for that show. There are Star 93' quotes throughout a few Cadets shows, especially in the Door series.
