  1. I believe I get where Stu is coming from, and not that he needs me to defend him...it is looking at this situation through a different lens. Why a plea for $100k in 24 hours? Did no one see this coming? If not, Why? That is poor management plain and simple and it is grossly irresponsible. Now, given, we do not know the details and are forced to assume...and given how many corps have folded due to poor management, bridging the assumption that Legends caused this issue by poor management is not a hard one to make, there are plenty of past examples to draw from...so, if that is true, then this is not a long term solution and a simple band-aid/temp fix if said management practices continue. That is the larger question that I believe Stu is asking. Issues with equipment should be factored in and depreciated as each year passes, knowing repairs/replacements are coming. And yes, sometimes more hits you at once that anticipated...but the question still has to be asked. I know of a corps a few years ago that had a large ask of close to $100k and it was needed in like a week...and it was because of poor management. Sometimes the hard questions need to be asked, and many times the answers are not pretty. On the flip side, I also know of a corps whose bus company changed the terms of the deal mid-season and demanded full payment or they were recalling the buses, and would have left the corps stranded in TX. Now, that is a legitimate unforeseen hardship and nothing to do with management of the corps. Luckily, things were handled and they marched on Saturday night in Indy, and the members never really knew anything was up. Now with that said, I hope Legends exceed their goal, I hope their management of how the organization is run is on solid footing, and I hope they continue their mission for years to come. But...if someone is asking some hard questions, I would not assume that person wants said corps to fail, rather get it together, because $100k in a day is quite a large ask and almost unbelievable the situation occurred to begin with. But it did...the broader question is Why. Let's hope $110k is achieved...that would be remarkable. It already is as it stands now...
  2. And yet every single year, we hit San Antonio, relative scores are falling, relative placements are falling, and we are treated to Harry and the Hendersons walking around with his iPhone publicly humiliating his team. LOL...
  3. I know details...it was not feasible or possible to keep him.
  4. You have no idea how completely false that statement is regarding SoA and JW parting ways. And it has nothing to do with JW as a person or any strife within the organization and him. I spent some time with him, great guy and from what I could see, the members loved him. But, business decisions...
  5. Non-profits are required, by law to file a 990 every year. Failure to do so = Organizations that do not file for three consecutive years automatically lose their tax-exempt status. An automatic revocation is effective on the original filing due date of the third annual return or notice. (Section 6033(j) of the Internal Revenue Code) According to GuideStar, they have not filed since 2012. If they lost their status, then a tax bill is due on all income, and it is due pretty quick. Not saying this is what happened...
  6. I agree with you, and your others posts here, was curious if this was coming off tour or going out of business.
  7. Is their issue $100k NOW or we can't finish tour, or $100k NOW or we fold? One of these scenarios I can see a plausible explanation for, the other, not so much.
  8. Yep...i alluded to this a bit earlier. A hand picked board, which is something that happens = no accountability.
  9. This is something I have experience with, serving on board committees for a current WC corps in fund raising, marketing and communications, along with serving on the Alumni board as a member, VP and President...I have seen first had a BOD President hand pick board members who were loyal to that individual, and it was virtually impossible to penetrate it, they had free reign to do what they wanted, and they almost tanked the whole thing...not saying this is the current state of affairs here, but I have had conversations back in 2015 with someone who knew what was happening, and it sounded similar to the situation I just mentioned. All that to say, if it is similar, then change is extremely hard to affect.
  10. GH is also the BOD President. Kinda hard to make any changes.
  11. And fact is fact - "Keith " Just saying, it is what it is.
  12. I know I'm contributing to this, but is this drum corps planet or cadets corps planet? There's about 30+ other corps out there busting tail right now. It's ridiculous.
  13. Just rewatched that show...awesome!! Narration done perfectly, served the show very well and not only was needed, but added a ton of depth. Very emotional show...forgot just how dang good it was. Would love to see more shows connect with people on a personal/emotional level.
  14. Very true...and you don't have to be local to serve. Committee's meet via conference call...
  15. I'm not sure what you just said, but I think I can kind of appreciate it...
  16. Any corps I was associated with would have nothing to do with this. It doesn't represent what DCI is all about...the whole I'm better than you mentality disgusts me...but yeah, water under the bridge...hay is in the barn.
  17. Having top corps in a show, no problem with that...how G7 came to be, problem with that. It was selfish and showed how other corps are thought of...it wasn't in the mindset to help DCI, but it was with the intent of how they can personally benefit and get their way. Completely selfish in the intent.
  18. It's a snub to everyone busting their butts out there. Many members from TOC got experience from lower placing corps...and this to me is saying they aren't important when in fact they directly benefit from them being as competitive as they are. Not to mention staff and designers and such that cut their teeth in corps with less competitive pressure. Snobs. They saw an opportunity and manipulated dci to benefit themselves.
  19. Been there and done that. Behind the scenes/running a corps is hard, thankless work to be certain, not to mention dealing with peoples' egos. If you want to see the sausage being made, be on a BoD or join a committee for a Corps. Generally, the BoD is focused on logistics and fund raising...they hire the Director and charge that position with hiring/finding/recruiting staff, etc.
  20. Tour of champions? Does that draw a crowd? There was a show in Millbrook AL the other day with open class corps only and they drew a good crowd. If a DCI show is in your neighborhood are you going? TOC is pointless. Doesn't draw a larger crowd...those in the area would go, regardless.
  21. Are you paying for a placement or an experience/life lessons that you will carry on? People in 13th 17th 20th 31st wasted their money because they didn't place better? I'll take a drum corps experience, regardless of placement, any day of the week. Regardless of placement, they are better people because of the experience. Don't have to like a show to respect the life lessons learned from being a part of the activity.
