  1. And this is what Crown looked like in 2013 when they took the title: The uniform/shako (aka hat) theory doesn't stand up.
  2. Yeah, George would have posted something about an ensemble tear if it had happened. I think the scoring would have been different too. If that had happened, Cadets most likely would be 2nd.
  3. Quote from George Hopkins on Facebook: "Holy crap Cadets on fire at San Antonio"
  4. I can't wait to see the show live in Chester, PA! I want to hear that big Crown sound.
  5. Awesome to get up and check the scores to see the results. Still a tight competition with BD. Keep the momentum going, Cadets!
  6. Yes, I saw the recaps of their 4th place finish. It appears to be their weakest caption. I just want to see them improve to help the overall score. You're right, no one is saying anything about Crown's hornline but they have said plenty about their percussion in years where they were 2nd to BD. It can be one caption that pulls the show out of contention.
  7. They need it. There is definite cleaning required.
  8. I live in PA so I always go to Allentown which is great because everyone is pretty much as good as they're going to get by that time. I really enjoyed the Cadets show and so did my friend who was with me. I also enjoyed the Cavaliers that year too. Niagara was a mesmerizing show for me. Got me hooked from the very beginning.
  9. I think body movement in general is overused now. At first, when some of the corps started incorporating it, it was OK. Now, everybody does it and it just seems overdone. Wish it would die out a little.
  10. The 2000 Cadet show was so cool. I loved when the brass played each other's instruments. That was great effect as well. So you were part of that show, 2000Cadet? Very cool.
  11. I remember that season at Allentown. It was so cool when the drum major got impaled. Nobody was expecting it and the crowd gasped and then went nuts. I loved it. It was one of the greatest endings of a show I've seen.
  12. What moves me personally in a show is a beautiful musical moment in a ballad, a huge brass sound that smashes me in my face, a moment where the guard catches their rifles and you can hear one sound, a cleanly-executed quick drill, colorful flags in perfect synchronicity, crisp percussion and a visual show that matches the musical show in intensity and beauty. That's what brings emotion to me whether there is a theme/story to the show or not.
  13. I am excited to see the Cadets doing well this season. I totally agree that their show design the last decade hasn't been as strong as previous decades. Seems like they're trying too hard to be "progressive" but it just seems to come up kind of tacky. BD's design team seems to do a better job of being sophisticated even if I didn't really understand or like the show. The Cadets approach at pushing the envelope seems to be adding voice to the shows which never do too well except 2007 (This I Believe). The talking seems to interrupt the flow of the music for me. When the corps is really building emotion or momentum by playing, it gets cut off by the talking. I'm excited to see hear and see them live in Chester, PA and Allentown. They won brass again last night and I am anxious to hear it. If you're beating Crown and BD in brass, that's an accomplishment.
