Yeah, maybe it's because I am a current marching member but I think synthesizers are awesome! Backing the tubas is kind of lame but I hardly notice it except for major impact points. Nothing beats a nice tuba section, and I think the majority of corps are learning how to use synth sparingly. I think the Blue Devils drum break, and their use of electronics was one of the coolest things on the field this year.

My favorite 3: Synthesizers. This was the best change to come to DCI in my opinion. Kind of iffy the first season but it didn't take long for corps to get these right. I love it. Non-moving pits. So much more these musicians can do now. They add so much more now that they don't have to move especially with amplification. They create such beautiful sounds now! Also allowed Synth and drum set to be a part of drum corps, and I am a huge fan of those too. Bb horns. They sound so much better. No question about it.

So much money to run a corps these days. Too bad.

More drumset please. I love jazz and any part of shows where I can just groove to. BD had a lot of great jazz/grooving moments this year. More of that!

I'm glad they don't talk that much anymore. That also added nothing to the show.

Some of the drum corps fans should calm down in the comments also.

The baritone solo in Blue Devils show is awesome.

I always loved this show. Warming up in people's front yards is a lot of fun! Playing for people after the show is fun too!

I think people use props because they look cool too.

Such an interesting competitive season! Love it and all the shows this year. So much talent this summer.

I feel the same way. There are so many different styles of shows and it's really awesome! Something for everyone. I pretty much love every show every year, so i'm probably in the minority here on DCP but the variety really is awesome. If you don't like what BD does, well there's a bunch of other shows you might enjoy more. If the show you liked most doesn't win, it's not really the end of the world. I think booing is really not the right way to go about showing your dislike for the competitive results. I think most people need to just chill out and just let the corps do their thing. If you don't like it, you don't like it. I'd say give it another shot, but there are a lot of bitter people.

Thanks for the great insight! I love how in depth the creative team at BD goes. This video also has some insight from Scott Chandler. Very smart and creative minds over at the Devils.

After my first summer, this is all I wanted. Fan response was cool but I left my lower placing group for a better brass ensemble! Still have a few more seasons to go, hopefully with an even better ensemble! People are allowed to have different reasons to march DCI!

It's such a competitive season. The top 3 groups right now are all champion caliber groups with SCV right there too. Whoever wins each night deserves a big congrats!

I really liked what they did with the Apollo piece last year. They didn't really turn that jazzy, or the ballad last year too. I feel you though about being innovative musically. It's really hard to push the activity musically, I think. I guess Crown is doing that with how many notes they can fit into a show, but it's hard to do much more than that. I like both corps styles of music though. Different flavors that both have their hits and misses.
