Now that they've been ironing out a lot of the balance issues in the ballad and the screamers are nailing their notes, this ballad is quickly rising to be one of my favorite BD ballads of all time. I seriously cannot get it out of my head at all

Typically cute being used in that context means that designers are overthinking and overdesigning instead of being straightforward. My guess is the poster thinks that these corps are not really designing these shows in the same organic way that BD does and instead inserting gimmicks in the hopes that it will impress the judges enough to beat BD

This is my “home” show but unfortunately won’t be attending as I’m currently in the move in process for my new place in DC. Hope I can get back on a regular drum corps rotation next year 😞

Exactly. Personally, the anti-religious messaging of the show makes me like the show even more. But it truly took the entire season for this show to finally grow on me. The refined bluecoats sound is really what won me over

I don’t think the average audience member is able to pick up the anti-religious undertones of the poem. I highly doubt the show concept itself is the reason for the tepid responses

Bold of you they had the attention span to pay attention to that performance as soon as the scores were posted on dci.org

It is so nice to see some classic drum corps on the field. Love every bit of this performance

Very energetic run from Crown! I think there were some small little cracks musically tonight but I’d rather them play with energy than more subdued I really love this show a lot and I still hold that they will have a strong 2nd place finish, if the percussion can have a great run on finals night

I’m no percussion guy but that tenor feature sounded a little rough

This crown show would be rivaling BD in visual score if they didn’t choose this color scheme in the guard. They get lost in this show. that rifle drop was also unfortunate 😞

I love how cinematic this entire show is. It’s like a movie soundtrack

It is really hard for me To decide my favorite show musically this year between BD, Phantom, and Crown Crown sounds ENERGETIC Tonight

Ooh boy dare I say it? I actually liked that. Turns out it took me getting high to truly appreciate this show and the narration. I think this is solid evidence that the entire bluecoats design staff is blazed when they program their shows 😂 Seriously though, I really enjoyed that. My only nitpick is that the energy did come off a bit low on Flo and the trumpets (soloist and ensemble) have some seriously crazy demand in this show and they’re not quite there yet

This trumpet part is soo so difficult rhythmically, timing wise, and just simple articulation wise. It’s still not clean

This is a year of really really good ballads
