  1. I've always wondered why they do that. Is it a recent thing?
  2. Horrid? That show remains one of my favorites ever.
  3. I agree with you. I really don't see BDB grabbing a finals spot anytime soon. But then again, I'm also hoping it doesn't happen either.
  4. BD did a great job with their original music last year and they look like they're going to continue that this year as well.
  5. I like the font they used. Nice that they're sticking with something minimalist in terms of the logo. I'm excited to see how this show turns out!
  6. Slotting only exists in the early part of the season. Think of it akin to pre-season rankings in College Basketball. Last season, Florida was ranked in the pre-season top 10 simply because they're Florida and had some good recruits. As the season went on and people realized their team wasn't any good, they dropped out of the rankings. Similarly, think back to 2009 in DCI. Phantom Regiment had come off of a winning season, and they were placed extremely highly in the first few weeks of competition. Think of this as their "pre-season ranking." By finals, as you probably know, Phantom Regiment ended up in 9th place. If you think that the results we get every year at Finals is because of pre-made biases from judges, you're kidding yourself.
  7. My impression of that show: solid opener, even better closer, and I don't remember what happened in the middle. And you're probably about the audience's sentiment. I don't really hear that show get mentioned very much.
  8. Just curious but what formula are you referring to?
  9. 2008 BD 2009 BD 2010 BD 2011 BD 2012 BD 2013 BD 2014 BD 2012 PR 2014 PR 2012 Bluecoats (never seen any praise for this show)
  10. I'm curious as well. Although the ballad portion was a tad anticlimatic, BK did an amazing job with the piece (especially the closer holy moly). Hopefully BAC can top that.
  11. I mean, your statement was pretty hyperbolic.
  12. You're allowed to be critical. No one's holding a gun to your head and stopping you. But don't expect people to not be critical right back at you.
  13. Are you implying that using "artsy" music (whatever the heck that even means) makes their shows repetitive/not innovative? Whenever they grab onto a theme, they go very in depth into it, and that's something I appreciate about BD. They're being innovators every year. Would you seriously say Re:rite of Spring is anything close to this? Knowing BD, they've had this show idea in their heads for a while. I think it's purely coincidence SCV and BD are using similar terminology. Not sure where this is coming from. Am I missing something? Since when do corp directors sit down with judges and give powerpoint presentations on their shows? I respectfully disagree :) But I know the modern BD is not everyone's cup of tea. But I'm glad you're willing to give the show a chance! Sorry about the rainbow, it was the easiest way to address your response line by line :)
  14. I've been using Klipsch R6's as my universal set and they work really well for me for everything (good bass but not too overpowering). You will want to get headphones that take it a little easy on the bass and have a more neutral sound palette. Basically, a little bit like the type of headphones one would use to listen to classical music. Take my advice with a grain of salt though as I'm no audiophile/expert on this.
  15. I don't think opinions are what you think they are...
  16. I agree. I really don't understand his critique of Bluecoats' show either. Maybe, as he seems to be implying, my ear is not "sophisticated" enough to realize how apparently awful the Bluecoats show was.
  17. A shame that you're missing out on good drum corps.
  18. It took a while for corps to learn how to do it properly and in a way that wasn't very intrusive. The poor Cadets are still trying to learn.
  19. Agreed they did a phenomenal job with the marimbas.
  20. The use of electronics between pieces is the only reason why the transitions weren't awkward. Plus they were part of the original source music. But then again, you're going to hate electronics no matter what so I guess it's pointless to bother.
  21. I'm unsure if he was trying to make a pun or just doesn't like me. Oh well
  22. Eh idk I think the Bluecoats did it better personally. But there definitely was nothing bad about the way BD used electronics last year.
