  1. They had a trumpet and a mello on the sideline marching their show while they were doing ensemble block this past saturday. Not sure when they will get the green light to be in the show
  2. I think you are right . . . the more I thought about it the more it seemed to be Madison's show. I'll have to dig up my CD. Haven't heard 96 in ages. To actually contribute to this thread: There's a video on youtube at the RCC show from this year where exactly ONE guy yelled "Vanguard" at seemingly a decent moment in the show. Perhaps it will gather steam?
  3. My fondest SCV CD memory is 96's "Spank ME!" . . . . "shut up" EDIT: 18 years ago was awhile . . . thinking it was Madison's show that year
  4. Having grown up down the street from Lassiter and fond memories of hearing Alfred yelling over the long ranger from my driveway, I've been thinking about the story most of the day. Their winter concert is tomorrow night . . . if I didn't live an hour and half in Atlanta traffic from them I'd go just to experience the awkwardness and potential fireworks.
  5. Sounds like Stanford's marching band. High schoolers need instruction. How many classes/rehearsals/sectionals have you been in and had the sections split up to work on parts and only to hear it not get any better after 20 minutes? Clubs get things done just not at the level current band programs do.
  6. Glad to see Madison 95 on there even if the list is . That show was the fan favorite that year and would have won if judging was done by applause.
  7. "I wish Lassiter luck in finding a replacement that every single parent and student approves of. This seems like it will be a difficult task now that there is an article telling every future candidate for the position what kind of treatment they should expect to receive." No doubt about it.
  8. The last statement unfortunately people do get hung up on. Hindsight is always 20/20 but really if I was Ginny I would have stayed away from Cobb County altogether eventhough some of the finest band programs in the state are there. You simply cannot be hired by your spouse (especially in the public sector) and not expect to come under scrutiny warranted or not. There are several other excellent programs in the metro Atlanta area and really the surrounding counties all have the potential to produce great programs besides which ones are already there. The hiring by her husband should be somewhat moot as she's been working as a band director in the county for some time now except that Gary made his decision to hire Ginny as band director at Lassiter on his way out the door. It's really an unfortunate situation all the way around in which every party could have taken steps to prevent this before it got spilled in a newspaper
  9. unfortunate circumstances. The truth will come out . . . one day. It's part David, Chip and Freddy teach in the Atlanta area still and part students at: Just about every school in Cobb County Pretty much every school in Forsyth County Half of the schools in Gwinnett County And about 15-20 schools in the Metro Atlanta area with BOA quality bands There are few other places in the country with the amount of willing students, middle-upper middle class families with disposable income, and amount of quality instructors. Marching band is big time in the Atlanta area . . .
  10. Weird situation there. I actually thought Andre was helping the hornline on the up and up after the cipriani void starting after 2004. I thought the 2009 hornline he was caption head for sounded great . . . not sure what ended up happening with the Academy. When they added Feagin and Gusseck after 2010 I thought they would have been a finalist contender
  11. Dan was there after JW left but I'm sure being a Vanguard alum helped
  12. Post 99 SCV, JW was tour director in a couple of different places . . . Glassmen through 2003, Division 2&3 coordinator from 2004-2007, Tour director at PR from 2007-2009 and then went back to Vanguard through 2012. So you could say he's been around the activity since the glory years of SCV there. I found this as far as an actual reference to the event is concerned: http://web.archive.org/web/20000711075136/www.scorpsboard.com/news/1999/scv_news.html
  13. no kidding . . . it's carolina crown. Where's the bluegrass show at? Someone at crown needs to get the sleepy man banjo boy's agent on the phone . . .
  14. Unless you live in an isolated world, you will see that wherever you go. As a choral teacher do you not have parents/boosters who complain? Opinions are like . . . can't remember the rest
