The toxicity of this thread makes me want to pull a “Clockwork Orange” scenario on some of these posters. I would force them to view the Fred Rogers movie, Won’t You Be My Neighbor.

I don’t mind cheese so much. There’s a big gap between a six month aged Manchego and Velveta. It’s the latter that makes me cringe. Again, like you said, it’s all subjective.

That was 2010 ;-) Typo? -

They don’t get mentioned much but I would add Pioneer to the mix as well. Quite the little fiefdom. -
I have to say I didn’t anticipate their current placement and I’m a bit of a honk. Lol

I hope that someone checked out the content score from SA. Now to continue cleaning that book!

Conversely, they pull out a show like Into the Light. I get goosebumps just thinking of it. -
If you’re talking about show design in that last sentence I can sort of see your point. If you’re talking about the circumstances that lead to the house cleaning at Cadets I would strongly disagree.

Louisiana Stars coming off a long break. -
I would like to have seen Scouts use Megan from the start of the show. Perhaps as narrator? The beginning of the show is so dry. I could see playing off that same script in a tongue in cheek way at this point. Right now her entrance comes off as gimmicky to me. Like, “surprise, we have a female member”. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, everyone knows Scouts have a female member.

So that’s the corps that was feeding the kids cake! I guess they blew their budget on a goofy sundial prop. -
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooootz! To Paraphrase Mean Girls: “Gretchen, stop trying to make boots happen. It’s not going to happen.”

Sorry, I don’t consider Blue Stars in the 80s and 90s “a drop”. It was more of a comeback and proved their tenacity.
-
I’m curious if the female member auditioned along side everyone else. She’s a great player and no doubt would have gotten a spot on her own talents.

Those arrangements! They’re technical without sounding like they were lifted from the Arban book. It’s especially apparent to me during the ballad with the extended ostinato passage. Just when you think you’ve got it down, it changes up. Bravo!

With so many people complaining about the lack of melody and recognizable music you would think this thread would be over run with posts praising Blue Stars.

One of my drum corps partners is a “ssssher”. That’s almost as obnoxious as people talking. Ugh. -

The screamers are all about drawing attention to themselves. Obnoxious lot, them. My worst experience involved a middle aged white guy. Totally ruined the Bluecoats 2010 semis performance for me and surrounding fans, screaming and berating them for their electronics usage. I told him he was a disgrace to the hat and shirt he was wearing (Madison). People around me thanked me for speaking up. -

Any more head to head meetings between BS and Mandarins outside of regionals? I’m having flashbacks to DIII. Hope there’s some back and forth movement. -
Weapon Imagery in Drum Corps
Brian Tuma replied to Ediker's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Meh, when you really think about rifles and sabers being tossed about by people not in military dress, it’s kind of goofy. I love it but my friend and I still joke about a guard from the late 80s dressed in long flowing gowns tossing about rifles. -
All time shows: Never Made it to Finals
Brian Tuma replied to ThePlanets's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I would have picked OC 2013 but will have to go with Pioneer ‘96. Pioneer had a trajectory toward finals in the late 90s early 2000s but someone got in the way. I have my theory but it ain’t pretty.
