  1. Well, see, I did this math, then began looking for the rule change that scoring would be kept to 9 digits to the right of the decimal...

Well played, Sir. Well played. (But a word of warning...don't trip over BRASSO's tarp...)

  2. In Major League Baseball, people get very disappointed & others quite angry when the staff come out and put the tarp on the field.

But their anger would be dissipated somewhat once they learned that their sacred home team would receive 1.40625 runs...according to Kevin's dictates and my calculator (and that only the 8100 sq. ft. of the infield were covered).

  3. Wait, you're kidding here, right?

If not, what if a corps has 1,150 sq ft of tarp instead of 1,152?

I'll feel like a fool if you tell me I've been "snared" by your prank.

Well...if 576 sq. ft. equals .1, then 1152 sq. ft. would equal .2. Therefore, if their tarp was only 1150 sq. ft., then their tarp score would not be .2, but .199652777.... .Aren't you glad you asked? :silly:

  4. Just jumping on to get today's schedule and I wonder:

Is ANYONE going to watch the entire 9 hours of broadcast performances today?

I'm smoking ribs for 6 hours so I'll likely have the show on for all of it, and I HAVE to see the Pacific Crest, Surf, OC, Spirit, and then from 15 on up.

Have friends coming over to watch whose 14 year old son made it his goal to make first chair trumpet in his local, VERY competitive marching band. And he MADE IT! Only the second freshman 1st-position trumpet in the history of the program! (His Dad played trumpet in school.)

Two weeks ago I intro'd his parents to drum corps (son had heard of 'Coats) and what being a parent of a "summer marching band" kid is like, and we plan to immerse them into the activity while munching ribs, mac & cheese, and green bean casserole.

Then they're going with us to the Centerville, OH show on Tuesday night. I think the son is going to get hooked quickly, and maybe Dad, but Mom will likely join our family matriarch put up with our little hobby (and maybe roll her eyes at us band geeks).

Going to be a fun day!

I LOVE this part of the drum corps season!

I'll be over around 5-ish. Anything I can bring??? :silly:

  5. Nothing beats a good slow burn. In a movie, video games, books, or a drum corps show. The feeling of a slowly building tension over a long period of time FINALLY paying off is just.......ugh. So good.

Didn't bring that one up because I figured it had already been mentioned.

Visually, the fact that one lone guard member at the first climax of that opener commands your entire attention in that simple red dress with that simple red flag, is pretty dang beautiful in itself.

Good ol' tension and release. And the greater amount of tension you can build...the more satisfying and, hopefully, powerful and fulfilling the release becomes.

  6. Well I get a kick out of hearing that...because the corps song for BAC is "Giant"...part of first verse "This corps is made of giants"....lol...and I've never been a fan of narration...but think it kinda fits the show...maybe a little over the top in places...but they can fix that easy....

Hence, my snicker. I thought Garfield was punning regarding the BAC background. Nothing more.

  7. My beloved but currently woebegone Twins too...

They are playing at Target Field this weekend too if anyone is already here or staying through Sunday! Hopefully the 2nd half of the season will go better than the 1st.

At the risk of descending deeper than purgatory...can it get much worse?
