  1. The real world isn't working. DCI doesn't care about the consumer. The consumer doesn't want to watch of so they don't show. I don't like TV commercials. Most people don't. You put it in between anyway and it sells. I do know this....the audience likes to pee and get concessions and if its WC..WC...WC...I'm ###### that I can't get food or I'll miss. Which is why intermission is always a line at the restroom and concessions.
  2. Until DCA or I cares about and serves the general public....its going to stay the same. People aren't going because they aren't compelled to go because their last experiences wasnt something they liked or cared for. Starts with show design. Give then receive. That's how it works. That's why TV commercials entertain us. Emotionally connect to the audience. Then...they buy products. Drum corps serve the score sheet and the design staffs egos. Its not complicated. If you go to China to sell the Chinese on whatever you are selling....better learn Chinese. Music is communication and drum corps is a product. What will your product do for me? How does it benefit me? DCI is a yacht club for band directors....not a public service. Even drug dealers get it. Give free samples and sell benefits that appeal to the consumer. Attack that from what angle you want...same principle in sales whatever it is.
  3. I think part of the problem could be that its the same product...just worse. Its minor league. That's the message to the audience by its design. I know the may never happen...but why doesn't DCA go more to a new identity. I'd like to see a college band type show. Nobody watches college matching band for matching or musical excellence or E equals anything. They want to be entertained. People will show and give you money if you entertain them. And not doing what the top corps are doing. Offer something different and separate THAT ANSWERS CONSUMER demand. Judge and change that judging system accordingly. Heck...make that your ,G corps. At least Bugle corps would exist...keep the legacy alive and satisfy the oldies. Even the WC I think would want to see what a drum and bugle corps is. Just ideas.
  4. I didn't find that interesting or entertain at all. Not trying to rain on your love for them...but why would I want to see that. It wasn't even funny.
  5. The pit is the closest thing to the audience. Humans here what is closest to them. Percussive sounds are heard above harmonic tones. Its not a percussion concert. Pit is there to support the wind ensemble unless its a feature. Its a color. A vegetable. Blending is something MUSICIANS do. No need to mic.
  6. The American Revolution was unethical. Do what you need to do to survive.
  7. Problem solved right here. WC, OC, WC, OC. All corps perform in random order. Everyone is there early if Blue Devils is on first, Crown on last and everyone else is all over the place in between. Guaranteed.
  8. Why discuss exceptions rather than rules or the general? The exception is not the reality.
  9. Possible solution to finals week - integrate Open and Worlds into one show at the same time. World class corps, Open Class, World Class, Open Class. Or........forget semi finals - don't need it. Put Open Class on Friday night.
  10. Ban? Is this North Korea? My posts are legitimate topics, relevant, factual, opinionated, discussion worthy based on the up to 15 pages or more they sometimes go. If you don't like the way I say something than that's an issue for you to resolve. I'm not Mr. Rogers and I don't do custom designed posts to gain approval points. I throw out the issues as a member of the general public, a DIC alumn, music degreed (BME), music educator of MS, HS Band and Drum Corps, recording engineer and business ower of 30 years. If I was none of that, if I see it or hear it once, I qualify for an opinion.
  11. And here's my personal opinion. Nothing wrong with my post. The people NOT buying a ticket, NOT buying a souvenier, NOT on DCP, NOT in the stands, NOT watching on youtube are ALL saying the same thing. You do get that, right?
  12. Nothing? My posts clearly get activity, engage people, prompt thought, analysis, generate problem solving. This post clearly was insightful. Thanks for your participation. Do you like seeing nobody support DCI Open Class corps? That's okay with you. BTW, what part of "The kids are sharp" was negative? What part of "the kids work hard are negative". What part of "clean" was negative. OHHHHHH - you want me to say something positive about the 50 people in the stands? Stand in front of Music City Shempy and tell those kids how positive that was for them. Yeah, let those kids listen to you talk to them about that. NEWSFLASH - this is the reason the corps just folded. Nobody cares about them enough to show up and listen. Why? The show is boring. Why is the show boring? Because it's about judges sheets and not the public. So the public isn't showing up, or buying anything, or cares. The people you need money from is the general public. And, it's your job to entertain them. Now, if that's not the point, then stay in your box, play for judges, and tour to play for the crickets. The situation is negative regarding Music City and Open Class corps and Keith Hall, the director addressed DCP that ITS NOT WORKING. So, what the hell is there to be positive about. Drum Corps IS NOT WORKING. It's functioning. But, it's a man on an island.
  13. They seem to get a lot of posts, stir up a lot of discussion, controversy, discussion, activity. Even in you. Thanks for participating. You took the time to write and let me know I have impacted your feelings.
  14. I think so. I had no idea there were more concession stand workers in the stadium than audience. Probably reflective of the same non-audience mentioned this weekend not showing up to watch any Open Class corps. Hmm? Music City closed because of funding. So, let's add all this up. Nobody is in the stands watching. Their show bored me. I am a member of the general publc. More, former DCI finalist of three years, bachelors in music ed, taught band, taught drum corps and marching bands. The post has nothing to do with the corps. I could have clicked on any finals clip this year and see the same blue seats with no forms of human life in them. And please, class? I'm not here to impress people or get people to like me. i'm hear to reflect an opinion based on what I see, hear, perceive and analyze as a member of the general public, DCI alumn and music educator. I don't live my life so that people will perceive me as classy. And just because you're one voice and unpopular one doesn't mean you're wrong. So rub some brain cells together and figure out that it wasn't about the corps.
  15. just watched Music City drum and bugle corps on YouTube at the DCI championships. I should say open class championships. Other than the staff, volunteers, people working the event I didn't see anybody else in the stands.also, the show is clean, the kids books sharp, they worked hard, it was pleasant but very boring. its not entertaining. Yet, it's no different then what I saw at Allentown from world class corps. I feel as a fan they are not reaching me visually, musically, nor is the activity physically doing anything for me to get my attention, earn my support. it's just not entertaining.
  16. Apparently, plumes have gone through puberty since the 80's. What's the height right now and when will they stop growing?
