  1. Blair's crew know what they are doing. I agree, the angle of that shot was fabulous.
  2. Got my rye whisky, absinthe, and peychaud's ready. Will have some sazeracs for our watch party tomorrow. Good luck, Blue Stars!
  3. I don't think I missed a show there in the 80s. The Erie Commodores singing group would always be the warmup act.
  4. The math works out by averaging the scores for Atlanta and Winston/Salem for the 4 corps that competed in both shows (which includes Bloo).
  5. So, over the course of the last two nights last year (semis and finals), there were a total of 22 judges (11 each night). In ZERO cases out of those 22 were Boston and Bluecoats scored identically by the same judge. Zero. "Afraid to make a call" is not a fair assessment, imo. Each judge did in fact make a call for one or the other. And the ordinals were all over the place, as well. It just so happened that the TOTALS of those 11 judges each night ended up being equal. Edited to add: here's a link to last year's scores... https://dci.org/scores?season=2022
  6. Just re-ran the spreadsheet using the other interpretation (use the average of last weekend's events, and then average those with S.A. and Allentown). The only placement difference would be that Crown and Bloo would swap (Bloo in 3rd, Crown 4th). Everybody else is unchanged.
  7. And this year, each World Class corps attended at least one of those 2 events.
  8. I agree with the first paragraph completely. My interpretation of the second part is that W/S is not a "major regional event." Here is how I interpreted it in my spreadsheet: There were only 4 corps that performed at both shows last weekend. Those 4 corps got 4 scores averaged for prelim placements. Everyone else got the score they got that weekend (either ATL or W/S), plus SA and Allentown. Jersey Surf didn't participate at S.A., so I gave them the score they got in a different event on that same day (using the previous day's event score would not have changed their placement, so feel free to use either one). Agree, the DCI statement is still quite ambiguous.
  9. Just logistics. They did the same thing last year. The top 4 or so (from the previous year) performed at both shows. The rest were split between the 2 shows (ATL and NightBEAT).
  10. Here's my data: Corps S.A. ATL NightBEAT Allentown Average 1 Devils 92.6 94.325 94.275 95.775 94.24375 2 Boston 91.6 92.05 95.475 93.04167 3 Crown 90.563 92.4 92.85 95.438 92.81275 4 Bluecoats 90.95 91.975 92.95 95.25 92.78125 5 Mandarins 87.675 89.263 91.988 89.642 6 Phantom 87.675 89.275 91.975 89.64167 7 Cadets 87.375 88.925 89.65 92.125 89.51875 8 Cavaliers 85.513 88.1 91.05 88.221 9 Blue Stars 84.175 86.375 87.55 86.03333 10 Troopers 82.938 85.725 88.525 85.72933 11 Colts 82.95 85.725 88.163 85.61267 12 BK 80.138 82.4 84.688 82.40867 13 PC 80.475 81.475 83.825 81.925 14 Crossmen 78.125 81.675 85.388 81.72933 15 Spirit 76.3 79.85 83.938 80.02933 16 Academy 77.438 79.5 82.025 79.65433 17 Madison 77.175 79.8 81.913 79.62933 18 Music City 75.4 79.25 80.25 78.3 19 Genesis 72.05 75.7 78.275 75.34167 20 Surf 69.25 72.675 74.975 72.3 21 Cascades 67.475 70.975 74.625 71.025
  11. Some people can't get past all the narration in Bluecoats' show. I can understand that. I can't get past the Bjork vocals in this Crown show. Sorry.
  12. So, back in the 80s, I attended a show at the old Erie Vets stadium (well, I attended lots of them BITD). The Cadets were the featured corps of the night, but they apparently had an issue with their uniform truck. So they had to perform in matching practice gear (polo shirts and nice shorts). This year, it wouldn't even make a difference.
  13. The announcer at this show sounds like Lindsay, from Close Call Sports.
  14. I noticed this in the ballad, as well. The first full horn block ensemble hit is soooo restrained. Most other corps would play this hit as loud as they could -- seems like a logical place for ffffff. But the 'Coats brass holds back at this part, and saves the higher decibels for several measures later.
  15. I just ran the numbers from San Antonio, Atlanta, NightBEAT, and first night of Allentown, through the spreadsheet: Blue Devils haven't quite locked up the #1 seed for prelims. But, Boston would need to score a 99.1 tonight to get that #1 seed. Crown and 'Coats (and everyone else, for that matter) are mathematically eliminated from getting the #1 seed. If either (or both) Crown or Boston score higher than Bluecoats did last night, then either (or both) would get seeded higher than Bluecoats. The order of placement among Phantom, Cadets, and Mandarins tonight essentially determines their relative placement for prelims. And as long as each of them score at least the mid-88's, they will stay ahead of Cavaliers. As long as Colts score in the 80s, they'll stay ahead of Blue Knights for 11th. They (the Colts) would need an 88.6 to move ahead of the Troopers for 10th. Crossmen need an 86 to move ahead of Pacific Crest for 13th. Madison needs an 82.0 to move ahead of Academy. Spirit needs an 82.85 to move ahead of Academy. Music City, Genesis, Jersey Surf, and Seattle Cascades are pretty much locked into 18-21, respectively.
  16. A liquor store near my office has an absinthe combo set, with the spoon and everything. I may have to pick one up for our finals watch party.
  17. Best combination of uniform and horn color on the field. The brown with the gold is stunning.
  18. That last bit of narration "... Reclaim what is ours" becomes "Now, just own it" in my mind.
  19. Still golden, weather-wise. Nearest showers down by Harrisburg and York are heading for Maryland.
