  1. Well, it usually is pretty warm this time of year. And Gulf temperatures are within a degree or so of where they typically are this time of year. Not really that unusual at this time.
  2. I'm disappointed in DCP. Someone sets up this softball, and 20 hours later it's still hanging out there. OBVIOUSLY, we already know that 2 corps are in the driver's seat: Bluecoats (they're heading north on the PCH), and the Cadets (heading west on Route 66).
  3. Yeah, I stand corrected. I think I was (incorrectly) extrapolating their lack of PPV to also include VOD. Sync rights are obviously the biggest issue, w.r.t. drum corps videos on demand.
  4. That, and I think Flo's business model is that they don't do VOD or PPV (which holds true for all their sports).
  5. Thank you, whoever posted that Fletch Moon River meme. That's all I see now during that part of BD's show.
  6. Looks like they are going to get quite a bit of rain this afternoon. But looking at the radar trends, it looks like the rain should move out by show time. It all depends on how good the field drainage is.
  7. I propose a sub-division of "SoundSport" called "Classic Field Shows" (or just "Classic"): Performed on the standard 100-yard field No props, other than guard flags and other "spinnables" No amplification or other electronics Instrumentation would be limited to any brass (any key), and any percussion Scoring sheets that emphasize drill form mastery and marching precision, rather than "staging" and "simultaneous demand" (do all the bug squashing you want, but its not going to increase your visual score) Show performance and touring model closer to DCA (primarily weekend shows, except for finals week) Benefits: Lower costs makes it more accessible for start-up groups. Gives current SoundSport participants a potential bridge to DCI Open Class. Gives current low budget Open Class corps a lower cost option to remain in the activity without having to go down to the current SoundsSport division. Gives 21U participants a chance to perform on a less intensive schedule (like DCA), but with other like-aged individuals. Nostalgia factor for the DCI dinos. I'm not talking going back to G-bugles, tic-scoring, and symmetric drills. But surely there's some elements of drum corps that we can go back to to satisfy the more seasoned curmudgeons, while also leaving enough flexibility to allow artistic innovation within those "old school" elements.
  8. I was able to paste the URL, and it went through the motion of importing the calendar, but it didn't show any events after that. The URL for the calendar (not the name) showed up in my list on the left hand side, but no events. Edited to ask: do you have a fresh copy/paste of the URL I can try? Nevermind -- I just tried it again, and this time it worked. 🤷‍♂️👍
  9. My alternate scoring system idea: First corps to perform gets some base number ( 50, for example) in all captions. From there, you rank the other corps within that caption in a relative sense, with no ceiling or floor implied. Pioneer comes on first, gets an automatic 50. Crossmen come on next, and are significantly better than Pioneer in that caption, they get a 65. Blue Knights are marginally better than XMen, they get a 67. Phantom, not quite as good as BK, but still a bit better than Xmen -- 66. SCV blows them all away -- 78. Give the judge one more opportunity to adjust scores after all performances. If you want, you could then normalize everything to 100 points, or do whatever you need to do to add the captions together to get a final score potential of 100. A corps that sweeps all captions would get that 100 score. The scores for the other corps would kind of be a percentage of goodness compared to the winning corps.
  10. If DCI truly wants to be "International," then they should start the push to have it included in the World Games. I live in Alabama, and the World Games are now all the rage around here since they are being held in Birmingham. The World Games are basically all the (warm weather) sports/competitive arts that have been invented but are not played professionally nor included in the Olympics. We're talking things like inline skate hockey, sumo, finswimming, tug-of-war, ballroom dancing, parkour, something called korfball, drone racing, orienteering, etc, etc. They are held every 4 years, in between the years the summer and winter Olympics are held. Whattaya say? An all-star corps that gets to represent the USA in the World Games Drum Corps competition, "coached" by the staff of the DCI Finals winner in the year prior, that competes against other country's all-star corps. Limit the prop size to something manageable (they have to fit on the plane), and maybe have other limitations to make it more travel-friendly. If it works out, and the activity grows, then go for the Olympics!
  11. I think Beaufort is close to the coast, so they would get seabreeze convection nearly every day. Farther from the coast, it's a bit less frequent (average of 4 out of 10 days you get afternoon storms -- I've forecasted weather here in Alabama for 30+ years, so I'm intimately familiar with the summers around these parts).
  12. It's not the weather in Savannah that will be the problem. It's that line of storms east of Macon and south of Augusta. Edited to add: they may get one more group done, before they have to tell folks to take cover.
  13. And, just following up on the weather situation. The National Weather Service forecast has a 60% rain chance until 5 pm, and 40% thereafter. And looking at current radar, all the widespread heavy stuff is well south of metro Columbia. So anything that would affect the venue tonight would have to develop between now and showtime.
  14. Don't give up on the show just yet. A rain out is not a sure thing, and it actually looks a bit promising at the moment.
  15. I've lived in Alabama for 32+ years. Met and married my wife while down here. Won't move until at least after I retire (if even then). I will also consider myself a Pennsylvanian.
  16. Thanks for this. My son is friends with the drum set player.
  17. Hmmm. I hadn't considered the similarity between "Lou" and "Bloo." You might have something there. I actually briefly also considered the Eagles' propensity for strictly adhering to proper licensing. But like someone else mentioned, Joe Walsh is his own name/image/likeness, and the rest of the band would not have any standing on somebody using Joe's name.
  18. Right, but the original "Taming the Dragon" monologue referenced the driver had a combo of Joe Walsh and Dennis Hopper. Was wondering why bloo swapped out Joe for Lou Reed.
  19. My question is... Why Lou Reed? What was wrong with Joe Walsh?
  20. I've listened to Beatles music through the years. I've never seen stage or cinema version of Sweeny Todd.
  21. Interesting. My feed did exactly opposite. High cam ok, multi cam stuttery.
