  1. Oh, great...I guess I knew it was coming...the 90's are offically 'old'. As a member of a 1990 corps, can one of you go fetch my walker?
  2. The smiley face means I'm kidding. Either humor doesn't play well here on DCP, or you take things too literally. "Get off DCP" means DO, go an CREATE the drum corps you want, not literally, "You suck, go away!" Seriously, I'm just an advocate for change from the bottom up...as it doesn't happen any other way.
  3. DCI,as I said, isn't all of drum corps. Does it take itself too seriously? Sure it does. But, its still a pretty entertaining product to me. As an aside... using Catherine Burr, who would prefer that we all played piston/rotors and that the activity never progressed beyond 1976, doesn't really cement your argument. I could care less what she thinks, since she always complains, yet NEVER DOES. There is no argument. Drum corps, like life, is what you make it. That's why there's a DCA, a DCM and others. So DO, and get off of DCP. :)
  4. Thank you for elaborating on my post, lucas. Yet again, I'm in your debt. :)
  5. DCi is not all of drum corps. It represents those who choose to associate themsleves with it. If you don't care for it....and there's been times that I think all of us haven't in some way, shape or form...then start your own corps. Nothing big, nothing fancy....make it local, or church based. Let the kids come in and learn how to play...march in a few parades. Complaining about big, bad DCI on message board does nothing for the activity. Want to change things? See the return of what made corps great to you when you marched? Then, critics be ######, DO IT. DCI be ######.
  6. Excellent points, Lucas. Thanks for the insight as always! :)
  7. Nope. I wasn't saying that at all. The way DCI is set up right now, II/III doesn't get much of a say. I don't really care for it. That was my point.
  8. Um, DCI has no power over other corps. DCI is the corps, at least in Division I...now as far as II/III goes, I suppose you may have a point.
  9. Yeah, can't forget about the Phantom "Organ Symphony" show from 1990! One of my favorite lines is Star's '89 line, from their "British" show...
  10. Charts that get no love: 1984 Les Eclipses: "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" ...What a great arrangement. Ends with a bari solo that is lip-trillalicious. 1986 Phantom Regiment: "Carnivale Overture": I've went down this road before as far as this tune, great arranging, great horn line. 1988 Velvet Knights: "Zorba the Greek": I dare you to not clap along with this one. Heck, how can you not enjoy this entire show? 1991 Bluecoats: "Whiter Shade of Pale" : This entire show (Nuttville, Palookaville) is awesome. I remember seeing this during the summer and having my jaw drop after the first hit of the opener. Many love the "grown up" Bluecoats after 1994, but for me the glory years will always be 1987-1991. 1990 Freelancers: "Batman" Okay, if the opening chart for this show doesn't blow you out of your seat, you are dead. I never got to see Freelancers on tour, but I remember getting the tapes and just being blown away. 1987 Star Of Indiana: "Barnum and Bailey's Favorite": Yes, it was a circus show. Yes, there was a juggler. But as much as this show gets derided, listen to the opening statement and tell me it's a "fluff show". I wish I had been old enough and had the money to have marched this one. There are plenty more, but 'm sure I'm boring you guys to tears! :)
  11. Who was it that was Brass Caption head at Crown in ...wasn't it 95? Name escapes me....one of my college friends told me about her.
