  1. Geez, Sam, everyone knows you capitalize the "D" in Draconian . . .no wonder they booted you!
  2. Too bad they won't sack up and do it, then. If that kind of move was such a sure thing, then why constantly try to take the steering wheel away from Dan and change DCI using their "business acumen"? Obviously it's not out of some sort of devotion to DCI . . .more like a fear of failing on their own and having to peddle their ideas under the safety of the DCI umbrella. Once again, if these units and folks have it all figured out: get out and show us. Stop hanging onto DCI if it's "dead".
  3. Oh! Are they taking suggestions? I'll go with "The Benedict Arnold Good Times Get Together March n' Play Farewell Tour" .
  4. Yes, I agree with you, and I would think . . .at least for the first couple of seasons . . .Madison, Boston, Spirit and the Blue Knights become the odds on favorites to win the championship. Given the amount of parity that seems to exist in the 11-17 group now, it would make "any given night" a reality again, wouldn't you say? Of course, if we do see the top seven corps leave, I think you'd see a restructuring within DCI not only at the organizational, logistical and touring level, but I'd also say there would be some tweaks from a rules standpoint as well. Nothing like going back to G's or anything, but I'd be willing to wager money that the sheets would change a bit to make sure DCI butts stay in seats the first couple of years. Not sure if that would be by moving a more DCA "entertainment" model, or what, but I wouldn't be surprised.
  5. There's no reason that DCI . . .after a G7 split/schism/fight . . .couldn't take up the mantle of regional touring again. There would still be 30 or so units left after losing those seven. Drop the Open Class/World Class stuff, rethink the touring process, and go forward. Partner up hard with DCA regionally for even more corps to put on at shows and then let the seven top "bands" cannibalize each other in their USBA as the years go on. Boo is right, though, that we have to have some semblance of unity to work from . . .and recent stuff just proves it won't happen until we either have those seven directors running DCI, or out on their own.
  6. Seriously, though, if I'm Dan . . .the directors should be out now. All of this back-room stuff that's come out over the past few days just shows the "I got mine" mentality at work, and means that no compromise will ever satiate these folks undying need to be the loudest voice in the room. My advice: Get out. Get out and prove that little Timmy wants clarinets and a three ring circus instead of being knocked on his ### by a wall of sound. So many times we've seen the lament from Hop's blog of "if only we could do "X" on the field" or "gosh, we don't market ourselves the right way". Now you can, and you don't even have to share any of those yummy marching band dollars with your poor, poor friends from Atlanta, Madison or Boston. Sure hope you guys can deliver logistically and financially right from the get-go and that people don't get tired of seeing the same seven "bands" over and over again. Never mind how close YEA! and Phantom have come to being broke recently . . .somehow that's all DCI's fault and going to a smaller pool of shows/exhibitions in the "USBA" will fix things. :tongue:/> The resultant mess from the seven "top" corps leaving may destroy DCI and the "G7" both in the process, but I'd rather not see Gibbs, Hop and Co. rot it from the inside over the next few years by trying to turn into their personal promotion machine and kill it anyway. DCI has enough name recognition that things can be fixed eventually, whether it's a merge with DCA and a regional latticework of shows that would support things, or some other way. I'm just ready for these big fish . . .in a very, very small pond . . .to put up, or shut up. To wear out the cliches in this post: talk is cheap, folks. This has been kicked around for so many years, and in so many different ways by George and company (anyone remember the 1997 Scott Stewart / Hop debate that was in Drum Corps World?) that it's become just empty chest-thumping at this point. Pull the trigger.
  7. Sure; however, if the Cadets were in 15th place every season instead of 1st/2nd/3rd, then you probably wouldn't be quite so dismissive. Hey, you're right, though . . .once these seven break off into "Up With People: Go March!", their shtick will just be marching band.
  8. If they're going to go as big with spoken word as they usually do, then there #### well better be some Dorothy Parker quotes in this show.
  9. Thanks for a chopped-up memento of the 2012 season, design teams. Guess it's time to stop pre-ordering. Get it together.
  10. Hey, now, that's not fair. I could totally find enough Lite Brites for everyone in DCI if you let me hit Goodwill a few times.
  11. Yeah, I liked it better in kindergarten . . . Keep on adding those "engaging layers" to cover up your design shortcomings, folks . . .I'm sure it'll work out for you this time.
  12. No doubt. Still my favorite year overall.
  13. . . .did you pick up a doctorate in Pharmacology we don't know about in the off-season?
  14. Hit "multiquote" on the quotes you want to quote, and then the "Add Reply" button. All of the quotes should show up like the above.
  15. The point is: there *is* nothing to it. It does what drum corps does best, which is pastiche together the best pieces and parts of visual and audio: this time from video game history, from tunes many, many people are familiar with. People didn't care that the lines weren't straight, or that your contras triple-tongued that section: they saw something they could relate to from a niche performance ensemble (sound familiar?) and then reacted accordingly . . .with just brass and percussion. Yep, people were applauding a horse moving on the field. Deal with it. In other words, the reason this hit Deadspin and elsewhere on the web is because it was ####### cool, and something a good bit of Gen X and Y can relate to pretty easily. Does that mean that every show needs to be fat, dumb and happy and a clap-fest? Nope, but it's well beyond time to consider the fact that the audience isn't going to be well-versed in band or wind ensemble literature all the time, and, unless everyone wants to play only to their insular buddies in BOA and WGI going forward, designers might want to throw the "laymen" in the audience a bone every now and again.
  16. Well, some users have requested that we delete the information that goes with the profile (signature, avatar, and so on) before moving them to "Inactive/Closed". Usually, stuff like that is handled on an individual, case-by-case basis depending on what the user asks.
  17. Done in one, my friend. If you are leaving DCP for a while and want to still keep your account (military service, working overseas, hired as a tech and can't post on DCP anymore due to corps restrictions, etc), you can request this option to keep all your virtual "stuff" intact until you return and request to re-activate the account. It's also an option if you wish to leave the Community permanently (e.g. "Please close my account".). Hope that helps!
  18. . . .a shame that Cowboy Bebop (and some other Kanno stuff) is getting harder to license . . .according to CopyCat Licensing, anyway. There's some stuff in Macross Plus that would be amazing.
