Exactly, and blue as the choice of police uniforms goes back to the English constabulary system in the early 1800s, which chose is specifically to avoid any confusion with red of their military. US police forces didn't start to formalize uniforms until the 1850s, following the British style, and then further relying on blue in the coming decades from Civil War uniform surplus.

As far as the new drape, not a fan. I think traditional red, white and blue bunting would have been more in character with the historical nature of the show. You know ... the type FDR would actually have been speaking in front of ...

Heck, if money is no object, start from scratch with a new corps and build your own traditions and memories!

My boy, at 14 and 3 months, is the youngest in his Open corps. Don't know the overall stats for the group, though.

I see. (first year in Open for my boy). I hope his corps doesn't get it - they'll think it vindicates their decision to open the competitive season with less than half a show.

Well, my son thought his show went off really well, so that's enough for me. I spend the evening arranging instead, since I couldn't follow along, so at least it was productive.
